Michelle, thank you for showing that at home teaching can be manageable, and the tech piece is huge. But I particularly appreciate your explicit statement the teachers are the resource not the technology. And I do have to say that I’m a bit blown away by what you’ve been able to accomplish recently in terms of your teaching your business grad school and maintaining what appears to be social emotional and physical health! And Yep I do think we’re all going to come out of this a little bit more text savvy LOL

You have been such a blessing during this time when many of us are just trying to figure out all this new technology, so thank you a million times!

You are so wise to prioritize your time with Billy. I put my job before my husband, thinking I'd make it up to him in retirement. I finally retired, and then he was diagnosed and died 3 months later. This job will consume your life if you let it. All you teachers reading this, please learn from my mistake.

I've been an online adjunct professor for close to 8 years. It is exhausting (and I only teach one or two classes at the max each semester). You suddenly become a coach for those students who have never taken online classes before, and mine are college level. I cannot imagine doing this with elementary aged students.

I'm on my 25th year of teaching here in Arizona and I just want to say that I learn something new (multiple things, usually!) from your videos. I am just so grateful to you for sharing all of your content. It has truly kept me going positively these past few years. It is very likely I will retire before the next school year and I'm really going to miss being able to implement all the things I learn from you. Just wanted to share with you how impactful you have been to me and thank you!

I work at a school for special needs children and we were assigned this video along with a few others of yours, to get ideas and tweak them to work for our students with remote learning. Let me tell you my mind has been completely blown with in the first 12 mins. We were assigned this back in April, but i got so caught up in my classrooms and side projects for school that im just making up the work now. I feel like such an idiot because you tips would of cut my daily work load down by like 2 to 3 hours! You also some great ideas for games to help keep the students engaged, because we all know how distracting it can be working from home where all their fav toys, games, and tech stuff is. Great job on these videos, I'm sure you have helped out many teachers, paras, and other educational staff members!

This is a great video! Love the format and that you show what you ate and walking too. I’m not a teacher, but I’m homeschooling my 10 year old daughter during this time of quarantine. I help her do her assignments in google classroom from her school and I’m also teaching her stuff like Spanish, cursive, spelling hard words, Roman numerals, Bible etc. just stuff that she doesn’t get to learn in school or not much. My daughter is loving it and is doing amazing. I’m teaching her geography and in a few days she learned where all 50 states are located in the USA map and ALL their capitals too. I give her quizzes here and there.... I’m loving homeschooling too 😊

My students get their assignments in two week blocks instead of daily. It's nice, because it allows them to set their own pacing. We send home a pacing guide with suggestions for what they should be do each day. My students love this set up, because it reaches so many different learning styles and schedules. We have a lot of kids who don't have internet so this works for them.

Thanks Michelle! Here’s 2 questions for your next video: 1) if you have more then 1 google classroom meeting together can you create the google meet link in one GC and then copy it to another classroom? 2) can you walk us through a math lesson?

I do this. I copy the link from my first MOD and copy the link as an announcement in my other 3 MODS. This way I can get all of them at the same time and I only have to reset the link one time at the end of the meeting. I am a 6th Grade Math teacher in Maryland.
Michelle, thank you so much. Your videos have been a big help with organizing my day and having a stopping point. Otherwise I would find myself working 15+ hours a day. By the way the TimeBloc app and the Forest App are working out great. I even used them fir household chores yesterday.

If you give out a nickname, any student who types that in can join. I have my students click on the meet icon in the waffle, join with the nickname. Students can’t enter before you are there (which they can if using the link in classroom). You can have over 100 students in a meet.

I’m a student myself (11th grade) and I’m always a kid who does all my work on time. I know how rough teachers have it even during normal times, and I’ve always thought that the least I can do is be a good student. However. I know that not everyone is the same as me. I was chatting with a neighbor (from 6 feet apart of course) who is a 5th grade teacher. She also has three kids under six and a husband who is an administrator and still has to go into school most days. She told me that on any given day, she has 5-10 students who do absolutely nothing. My heart just broke for her. There are so many circumstances out of teachers’ controls right now, and I think they all deserve a little extra appreciation 😊

Hi, on google keep you can slide check boxes across to create actual different sections, it divides them up easily, if you have completed your "master" task but haven't checked of the boxes below it you can just tick of the section divider and it ticks of all the others under that section. I dont know if that makes sense, sorry if it doesnt. Basically just try swipe a task to the right and see

I love Google Keep! Did you know that you can nest tasks? Under each of your time sections you could drag the tasks under it and then if you want to check off the entire section you can just click on the header task and they will all get checked off. Just click those 6 dots when you hover over the task you want to nest and pull it under the header. It has made my notes much easier to look at quickly!

If google keeps works for you this way great. Just a note on your e-learning checklist with the time blocks. You can tab some under the time block. For example under planning block you can put cursor next to check emails and press tab. It will become a sub item.

How can I, as a student, help my teachers with distance learning? My teachers are not super tech-savvy and don't understand how to use google classroom, but I want to help them because they are my favorite teachers. I love your channel, and I always watch your videos while working on homework. Thank you for inspiring me!

Google Keep Tip: you can actually create two levels in your checklist. You can drag all the tasks for each block to the right and it looks more like an outline. If you do it that way you can also check off the whole category at once. I know your all about being productive and efficient so I just thought I would share that small time saver. :)

I loved this video! I'm an Instructional Assistant at an elementary school in CA (jealous of your beautiful trails!!) and even though I'm not the main teacher, these have been so helpful in learning new techniques. Your positivity is amazing and I love that! We have to go with the flow, stay positive for our students and keep learning! I'm still getting through all of your amazing videos but was wondering if you have any virtual tips and tricks for IA's when we do our break out rooms?

In windows, all you need to do is create the two windows, drag one all the way left and the other all the way right and they will snap into place.

Michelle, I am so glad to have you in my teaching life! I too am 4th grade in Elgin, Illinois, taught for 28 years, last 18 in my "sweet spot" 4th grade. I am loving this E-Learning and growing all the time thanks to your clear videos and creative teaching ideas.
I serve in a low-income, high-poverty school. All my students DO have Chromebooks, but most are just popping in to do the "fun stuff" I have posted and ignoring their reading group meet-ups and other weighty topics like writing assignments and the like. Q: How can I get them more engaged in those heavier subjects?
None of them had ever even used Google Classroom before and neither had I much.
So even turning in work is still a struggle after 4 weeks of Distance Learning. Fortunately Illinois State Board of Ed has a "Hold Harmless" clause and our District [2nd largest in the state after Chicago] has said that our standards-based grades can only improve or stay the same.
So I wonder if I am pushing too hard and adding stress to their lives? I don't have a team to plan with. I am creating all assignments to be completed by the end of the week, but my kids are on all hours of the day and night. A lot of them are not working during the day, but only when mom or dad gets home in the evening. I feel successful when I turn off my notifications in the evening!
I'm astounding myself (and my principal!) that I figured out how to use all of these online tools and it is thanks to you! I am using Google Classroom, Screencastify, RUclips videos, editable slides, my Drive is reorganized and color-coded, and now I am going to set up office hours and try to get away from my screen before 10 PM!
Fun Fact: I went to high school in Laurel, Maryland. Most of my HS friends still live thereabouts: Ellicott City or Columbia.
One thing I do for fun with my kiddos online is play "I Spy" using screenshots of Google Earth images... super fun and developing spatial intellience!
Thanks for reading this novel! You are the first person I have ever "subscribed" to and are making this great adventure doable!
    Ani Smith :-)

You are doing a lot! We have 90 min office hours on google meets split into a morning and afternoon session. Each week we create a choice board with all subjects and record a shared reading, 2 math, 1 writing, a read aloud, and guided reading (# of videos varies depending on reading levels). I’ve been doing 7 videos but am going to 6. We also have an hour staff meeting, team planning (we want to this is not required), and PLC (which is just team planning with our goal clarity coach). I also decided to have a class meeting on Mondays and Fridays to start and end the week together. We have very low participation, between 2-6 students 😢. I had around 50% of assignments turned in but I finally found a good flow.
