I'll never forget meeting my ex-wife's Dad for the first time. She warned me he liked to scare her boyfriends at some point, so I was waiting for it. At one point he wants me to go out to his garage with him. He starts showing me all of his gun collection. Instead of shaking in my boots, I get all excited and start asking him questions. When he sees that isn't working, he shows me a "human skull" that he keeps. At this point, I look at it quietly for a few seconds, letting him enjoy his moment and then I say: "So, was this somebody you know? Or did you just buy it from somebody?" He kind of hangs his head and says: "I bought it from the flea market." For the record, I saw it was plastic and too well made, so had no doubt it was fake. After that, he thinks I'm the coolest guy in the world. He's trying to give me some of his guns. Every time we hang out, he brought out the good Scotch and would tell me about the good old days. And I would just go along with his wild stories and act like I was as hardcore as a dude could get. When my ex and I split, I figured he would hate my guts. But was cracked up to learn that years later, he was telling her new husband that he was a loser, even though the guy makes way more money than me. And the he wished his daughter would have stayed with me because I was a real man who knew how to take care of his family. At least I had one fan!

I remember when i was together with my ex gf. Her father took me to another room and we startet talking for almost an Hour. He said that if i hurt her, that he would destroy me. I told him peacefully that i could never hurt someone anymore. He asked me what i meant by anymore and i told him everything about it and i actually startet crying a bit becaus it was a really hard time were the accident happent. He was shocked becaus he would have not never tought that i would start crying a bit. He actually startet comforting me and talked with me a little longer. He startet liking me becaus after that we had a really good conversation. But after a month my ex gf broke up with me becaus she did not like that i have such a good relationship with her father. I told her father everything and he was pissed at her. But in the end we still go on bowling evening with him and a few friends.

Over protective fathers seem to produce really messed up daughters who eventually find a way to embarrass and disgust them. It's a relic of a time before online hookups can happen in minutes and even before then it was a good way to drive them to do even riskier behaviors.

This is one of those odd situations where the father seems like he's more concerned with ensuring his daughter doesn't end up with a lowlife, but at the same time, doomer's lack of achievement in life likely involves more factors than just his current inabilities, hence him being a doomer and expecting a certain pessimistic outcome of things that he may go along with.

I remember being in a similar situation. A girl invited me to her place and I was under the assumption that it was fine with her parents.
Her younger sister was there, and warned me that she's not allowed to bring guys home uninvited. I thought we'd be having dinner with the parents, guess not.
I confronted her, and then I heard a car engine and the gate opening. Her father was home. She told me to hide, but I didn't.
I went straight out to him, greeted him, explained to him what impression I was under and asked him if I could leave and come back another day to properly meet and visit.
He asked me to stay, gave me a beer, we talked a bit and then he sent me on my way.
Never talked to the girl again, pretty sure she got an earful after I went home.

11 years.. her dad & mom was basically my parents away from home & they truly loved me. I’ll always give thanks to them.
I thought meeting my gfs dad would be something like this, obviously less extreme but you get the idea. A big reason why i thought that is because hes a cop, so is the mom, infact alot of her family are a bunch of cops and veterans, her brother was in the army. another reason is because im 18 and this is my first relationship so I have no past experience of meeting gf's parents, so i just thought it would be like how i seen it in the movies, where the dad is a hardass. The dad is incredibly chill and we talked about random things, the mom is super nice and generous, always offering food and to drive us places, the brother is also nice. The best part is she said her family loves me.

I broke up with my ex when did the same thing twice; "Hide, my dad is coming". Time later i meet with his dad and ask me why i didnt stood up and hide like a rat, i told him i was stupid, but agreed. Told him i broke up with his daughter because either she was embarrassed of me or she have other boyfriends and hide them like she did with me. Her father look angry, i tough were gonna fight, but he grab me by the arm and told me; " have a drink with me". Later we ended in a place called Blue Kitty, a strip club, he send her photos of us drinking and with girls. She call me angry and in tear, his father laugh so hard. Finally he told me; " I wish i had a son like you, daughters are a burden". And that was one of the best days i ever had.

My ex’s dad is similar, but not to this level. He was always a douche, but would say things in between the douchery that gave me insights to his daughter’s personality. After a few years with her things went to sh*t pretty hard. Looking back on it I realize the things he told me were warnings. Especially the statements comparing her personality to her mother’s.

My girlfriend's dad abused her as a kid and is now just not a part of her life. In the two years we've been together he's never tried to talk to me, and when I tried to talk to him he ignored me. He just doesn't care. I honestly hate that piece of shit. My gf is an amazing woman despite him, and I plan on marrying her someday, and when I do I will not be keeping in touch with the in-laws.

Not a lot of time ago my boyfriend with who I'm in a long distance relationship met my dad by video call with me and my mom first, and then my dad decided to talk with him like with a man all alone, without witnesses. All was very good, they talked for 2,5 hours and after finishing my dad said to him "hug you" (like men do, you know). That's definitely a good sign

@@maxitrx mostly for the wife. Guys have much easier time sniffing out bs in each other than women do. Concept of romantic love is extremely modern and people "marrying for love" is one of the main reasons divorse rates are sky high nowdays. Even in the video, dad isn't exactly wrong. About doomer being a loser and about girl partly dating him to piss the dad off (she wouldn't bring him home knowing how her dad will react otherwise, there is 0 reason to put him in harms way in this situation other than pissing old man off).

Don't bother having kids if you can't handle them growing up. Let them live their life. Obviously there should be some rules, but don't treat them like it's the middle ages. That'll just make them want to see you less when they're older.
