Every Girl Needs is an animation about a girl from a poor home. While her peers can live and enjoy their free time, she has to support the family by relieving her hardworking parents of household chores. Invited by her classmates to go shopping, she quickly realizes that for some, this ordinary piece of clothing is not just material, but hours of sacrifice and hard work for her family.
Harsh conditions and a world watched only through the TV drive her desire to get out of here... as far away as possible, somewhere where she can finally start living.

@@Toppaz-ro3mn To some extent maybe. But it's also about how they grew up. Often fathers like these were spoiled by the mother. They learned that the woman have to do the household and child education. Somehow they are little kids inside that never really learned to take responisbility and have no clue about how to educate a child properly. They criticize others, but cannot take criticism themselves. They are living in their own world
I know this from my own father. It needed a lot of effort to make him a better father. Those fathers often have a really nice side, are specialists in practical topics, give you wise tips for your life, often they are nice to people outside the family, but cold and grumpy to their own family. They are too cowardly to tell others what they think about them, so they complain about them with their family. You don't believe how annoying and useless this behaviour is. With this fathers you need to find a right balance between understanding, but also clearly showing him what he makes wrong. You need to defend yourself sometimes.
Too much empathy for those fathers is posion in many cases. They often don't reflect themselves, so you have to do it for them. It's a hard stony way. They treat you as if you did sth. really horrible for the smallest of the smallest mistake. As I said they often act like little offended kids. Sometimes they even make you indirectly responsible for that, what other people done wrong (but not you). It's so weird sometimes to start a discussion with those type of fathers.
So I wouldn't call this family father.

This hits a little too close to home. Back when I was living in South America. I was from a low middle class family that obsessed with education as the way to get out of poverty. My parents made the effort to send me to one of the best private schools in the country so that my brother and I had the best possible education from the get-go. I remember constantly comparing myself to all my rich classmates and always wondered why I didn’t get the same things despite doing great at school. My friends would ask me why I couldn’t buy the latest phone or the latest shoes. Or why I had never left the country when they were constantly traveling abroad during the holidays. For I while I blamed my parents for the conditions we had to endure. But once I graduated HS I realized all the things my parents sacrificed so I could have better opportunities than they ever had. Thanks to their sacrifice I was able to study abroad under a scholarship and get. decent job. Thanks mom and dad

Hey, I had a similar situation. I live in Russia and in the 2000s we were a rather poor family. However, we studied with two brothers in a private school. I think the parents gave a third or half of the salary for this. I also studied with children from wealthy families. They constantly traveled somewhere, bought the latest gadgets and clothes, traveled to other countries. Of course, I compared myself to them. But most of all it was insulting when they all went on vacation somewhere together as a class. They became more friendly on trips, united in companies. At this time, I sat at home and envied them. It's one of the reasons why I never had friends at school. Just bad luck. I'm 19 now, I'm studying at the university. And the past still haunts me, and it's not as joyful as I would like
Now I understand how difficult it was for parents then. They hardly could do anything. Thank them for this. But the school still crippled me and that can't be taken away

I think it had to do a lot with the values that the Catholic HS promoted since it was run by nuns and teachers. And thankfully I didn’t have to experience the problem of paying for the graduation trip since they couldn’t decide on a place to travel before the year ended and decided to just not have any trip at all lol. I’m hopeful you found solace in my life story. Hopefully everything will work out for you and you’ll overcome your traumas the way I did mine. The sacrifices our parents made will eventually lead to a better future for us no doubt.

Cared too much about what others thought of me, even when I knew their true opinions. Cared too much about pretending to be somebody I wasn't, and for what? The fake approval of people who hated me from the beginning.
The people I met at school were never my friends. Never cared about me. Never cared if I was around. They insulted me to my face and I just accepted it like an idiot. I legit would have been better off if I was completely alone during all my school years. I cut contact with all of that garbage and am now at peace.
Now I only have exactly 2 friends, and they are much older than me, but at least they're genuine friends. I know because I was always honest with them, and they never judged me. All the lies I told at school teying to fit in were for nothing.

And the relationship with the little brother shines thorugh even in the little bits that we see. Also very compelling. I love how you stay perfectly clear of ANY existing story tropes, showing what you see without trying to make it fit into any genre. Makes me think - "This is what life ACTUALLY feels like" - this is also something I love in the work of Cormac McCarthy.

years ago i long-distance dated a girl from Poland that this reminded me of. her family was pretty poor and struggled to get by, her mom was always taking money any money she had, and she could never stand up for herself. it was sad, and i really felt bad for this girl since it was obviously a very tough situation. but she was horrible with her money too. every month she would blow money on useless things like acryllic nails and hair dye (she hated her natural hair color so much that she refused to ever show me a picture of it, or even tell me what it actually was). we wanted to meet up, and talked a lot about doing so. i'm no millionaire but i had enough money to meet up with her any time we wanted, while she on the other hand never could seem to find a way to save anything, month after month. after over a year, i realized i couldn't keep it going with a person with such bad habits and also someone who so intensely hated something about themselves.
all this is to say, this video reminded me of her, and what a stark tragedy it is when people can't find a way out of such circumstances.

What I understood from that ending, and the video overall, is that this girl will wind up getting trapped in a toxic relationship with a wealthy person, and subsequently won't be able to escape it due to the promise of a better/wealthier life. Once you get the taste of the mirage that is "normalcy" it's scary to go back to your old life, even if staying in the current situation is damaging.
Maybe I am thinking too deep into it but that's what I took away from the ending.

I believe it's validation and wanting right, not from/for men really but from other people. She doesn't really have a lot, she sees and hears about people who have more then her (the girl's talking about the trips, her friends talking about going shopping and their boyfriends).
It seems like she wants to fit in, and she can't seem to do it with the people around her. They talk about things that she can't really do or have, and so she's trying to find a way to fit in. That's why when her mom compliments her she perks up, and that's why her reflection at the end is the pretty version of herself. She believes that if she continues, this way she'll be able to fit in better to society standards of her.
But it also shows the dark side this path, the dude in the elevator looking at her and the story about the woman being attacked. Not saying it's wrong to dress a way, but to me at least it's seems to be about wanting something more than you have even if you can't really have it and the validation that comes with it.
Everyone talks about what they want, with even the dad wanting cucumbers in his sandwich because it's dry. That's just my interprutation of it atleast.

Right, in addition i would add it sort of self perpetuates negative values. Like the character might internalize that beauty is their only inherent value due to people around her treating her better because of the make up and clothes she wears and not for their personality and character.
Likewise, something similar ive noticed happened recently is a surgency of misandry. Ive meet many women who although know its wrong often continue very man hating comments and objectification due to not only from the people around them but also the inherent envy they have from the opposite gender. I state this because their body issues also plays with their gender issues which goes again with wanting to have validation.
ultimately this doesnt help anyone at all

that said, many ppl who like to "look" rich are fake rich. They waste their money on expensive clothes /cars but can't actually afford it. The mentality of someone who had money is to not spend on useless/needless things. Many ppl who are actually rich drive modest cars and dress modestly. How else did they get rich? Not by spending it carelessly. A big part of getting rich is living below your means, and not living paycheck by paycheck (aka not spending all you have, but reducing costs so that they can save, which builds up over months/years)

All my teenhood i dreamt of getting nice clothes and gain popularity. Instead, had a middle classed life but with little to absolutly no freedom whatsoever. Couldn't even go over my girl's house at the time or date. Every video game console and phone was taken away from me for four years and without wifi. I always ask myself, how tf did i survived that? No social media or phone for 4 straight years and no games either. I was serverly depressed those four years. Heck, i almost "took myself" on birthdays and several other times. Wasn't until 5 days before christmas 2019 (i was 19) that i was kicked out over an argument. 2020 and onwards, i became the very young man i always wanted to be. Independant, time, freedom, and freedom to make a choice. No longer chained to what someone else has to say and tell me what to do. No more depression nor living as a loner. (I'm single nowadays buy happy)
So yeah, this video got me emotional. I am NEVER looking back to that horroble life i had. (And yes i had verbally abusive parents growing up which worsened my depression)

Honestly, with my leave, the quality of life of all of us was increased. My brother had his own room. My mother could sleep in the living room(there were three rooms for three people and my parents couldn't sleep together in one because one of them snored and the other had severe insomnia).
