I am watching your videos a lot and I am getting braver though with what I am using. I am 78 and my granddaughters say my skin is looking "younger". Actually, I think what they mean is healthier. I have watched a couple other youtuber's videos about skin care and The Ordinary products...your videos are the most informative and detailed, not going back there, I'm going to stick with you. ❤️Haven't ever tried a masque, but it is on my "To Do List." It's nice to hear that your granddaughters can see a difference in your skin, and you must feel good about it yourself. 😊

Thank you for your reply; that may not be the masque for me then as I do not really have an oily complexion. Now that I have been watching you, I have recently purchased from the Ordinary: Squalane cleanser, Natural moisturizing factors + HA, Ascorbyl, tetratsopalmitate solution 20% in Vitamin F, and Granactive Retinoid @% emulsion (recommended by The Ordinary). It is not here yet. Thank you too for your demonstrations on the patch test which I will be doing. What started me on my quest for healthy skin was a Christmas present from my granddaughter of Good Genes Sunday Riley lactic acid, I have been using Ordinary glycolic acid 7% toning solution also. And I am sorry to say I did not really understand that it was an exfoliant until watching your videos. I do like the results of those two products and they have started my skin to improve in texture and wrinkles. Oh, I also ordered the caffeine solution. I'm hoping that it is a miracle solution as I have some serious bags under my eyes.
I love your informative videos even those with products I may not use.I am on a steep learning curve, and thanks to you I feel better about the Ordinary products. You give such clear instructions. I love your videos...keep 'em coming!

@@janetvahlensieck623 It's interesting to hear that you have seen significant improvements while using your Lactic Acid and Glycolic Acid! For how long have you been using them? And how often do you use them?
I find it interesting that I'm younger and currently having more issue with breakouts than with textured skin and fine lines or wrinkles... So when I'm using an exfoliating acid, it's excellent (I love using Mandelic Acid). Still, it's not showing "amazing" improvements since I do not really have those concerns yet, which it can help you with (- textured skin, fine lines and wrinkles).
The products you have ordered sound great! It's a simple anti-aging routine, that does not dry out your skin but can help you to even out/brighten your skin tone, and reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles! :)

    Toner
    Vitamin C
    Moisturizer
    Sun screen
    For PM,
    Routine #1 (2 times a week)

    Niacinamide

      Routine #2 (2 times a week)
      Cleanser
      Toner

You can use your toner daily in the AM and PM unless it's an exfoliating acid toner, then use it less often, like once per day, 2-3 times per week, and adjust the frequency upon it. Also, do not use an exfoliating acid and retinol in the same routine; keep them separate.

I recently started getting into skin care and I got a new cleanser, the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Medicated Gel Facial Cleanser with Salicylic Acid. Would I be able to use this cleanser and then the Ordinary Salicylic Acid % Masque or would it be too irritating for my skin? I'm a bit hesitant to test it out in fear of chemical burn. If you can answer my question and provide any suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I am not able to get that one. And I do not know the pH of it 😞 Therefore I cannot give you accurate advice. But based on my experience, it's best to use a gentle cleanser before the masque and use the SA cleanser when not using it. I can use a 2% SA cleanser daily without any significant issues. If it does get dry/irritating, I just pause for a few days before using it again to balance it.

It has a low pH; therefore, it can sting yes. If it is only for a moment, I wouldn't worry too much, but if you can not tolerate it, it's probably best to change it to a BHA cleanser or a higher pH leave on exfoliant. (BHA = Salicylic Acid)
Yes, that one is drying. The best eye cream I have tried so far is from Paula's Choice, the Omega+ Complex. But it is costly. What you also can do is use the one from CeraVe :)

You can use all your current products once or twice per day, daily. How often you can use your serums depends on how your skin responds to using it once per day and twice per day. Try out the different frequencies to see what works best for you.
Use the Salicylic Acid mask once per week in the PM. Use it after cleansing. Once you have rinsed it off, you can continue with the rest of your routine.

I use the Squalene Cleanser first, then the hyaluronic acid, and then the Natural Moisturising Factors. You were a big help on how to use the daily set by the way! So if I were to use this mask would I stop using any of the other products? Or could I just use all of them and throw the mask in like after the squalene cleanser and then do the hyaluronic acid and the moisturizer? Also, I use the daily set AM and PM. And I know I should also only use this like 2 times a week. Are there any other products you would recommend I use, if so could you explain how to do that? I’m very new at all this. 😁😁😁

      Yes :)
If you suffer from acne, you can use their new 2% Salicylic Acid solution.
But do you have a lot of acne? If so it may be best to buy "real" acne treatment. If it is only a little, the mask or the 2% SA solution should already do its job.

This may irritate because of the retinol. If you are only using this once or twice a week and keep it hydrated on the other days, it may work.
Also depending on the moisturizer, you are using it is applied after the rosehip seed oil. Plant oils have smaller molecules and can penetrate the skin, most moisturizers, especially the creams, include havier barrier ingredients, like silicons(dimethicone) that will not penetrate the skin.

Hello! I’m watching your videos and they’re so good. You explain it so well and I’m learning so much about the use and the properties of these products.
I have a question about my skincare routine. Is it okay if I use the Lactic acid 10% two days and the azelaic acid other 2 days (not in the same routine) and maybe do the salicylic masque once in a week?
All of these but different days. Do you think that it’s lot of different acids for my skin? Should I maybe try with one acid and the masque and then maybe try the other one and the masque? Will it be better the lactic or the azelaic acid with the salicylic masque?
Thank you and keep on posting these videos I really love them! ❤️

      Hey :)
      Thank you so much!🥰
Well, Azelaic Acid is a bit special...you can't really compare it immediately to other exfoliating acids (like Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Mandelic Acid or Salicylic Acid).
You can use Azelaic Acid daily in the morning and/or evening, but you don't have to use it daily!
Whereas when using the other exfoliating acids (Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Mandelic Acid or Salicylic Acid), it really depends on your skin needs and tolerates. Some people can use their exfoliating Acid daily, whereas others prefer to use it only a few times per week.
If you are new to those products, I recommend keeping Azelaic Acid, Lactic Acid and Salicylic Acid in separate routines. You can use Azelaic Acid, for example, in the AM and use Lactic Acid in the PM on that same day or use it only when not using Azelaic Acid. However, please do not use Lactic Acid that day or Azelaic Acid and Lactic Acid after the mask when using the Salicylic Acid mask. To avoid irritation.

Hmm, not sure since I do not suffer from that issue. Generally, with Blackheads, it works best if you extract them. However, the masque may help with enlarged pores because of the SA in them. Hello Marvin, 😀 Thank you very much. 😀
You can add Alpha Arbutin after Niacinamide in the morning and/or evening.
You can add the masque once a week, or only use it for spot treatment.
Meaning just apply it to the areas where you have breakouts; I am doing this a lot. You can use it multiple times a week. I am usually doing it for 3-5 minutes every second day, and it works pretty well. But do not overdo it in case you feel stinging or get irritation, stop doing it.
Also, have you tried to add a Benzoyl Peroxide cream to spot treat the stubborn pimple areas?

@@marvinmendoza3836 In this case, it does not matter, and you can apply it whenever you like. But for me, it works best after Salicylic Acid :) I have read some studies with Azelaic acid as well. I recommend applying it on top of Azelaic Acid, because the ordinary Azelaic Acid has Dimethicone in it. This way, it will penetrate slower into the skin, and you will end up with less irritation. So there are multiple options. I also used it with Niacinamide. You have to apply the Niacinamide before Benzoyl Peroxide.
You can't go wrong with the products you are using ;) There is no cross-reactivity. But always patch test before applying it all over :)

But you can also use The Ordinary Salicylic Acid solution 2%. Or twice a week the masque and it also has some oil regulating benefits. Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid is also great, but I rarely use it.
You need to find the right one for your needs, and my advice would be to test them. For now, I most often use The Inkey List Salciylci Acid cleanser, and it works well.

That said, certain treatments can help reduce these spots. Personally, my skin has improved dramatically over the years, though I've never been able to get it fully under control.
Remember to use Glycolic Acid and Salicylic Acid on alternate days to avoid overexposure.

Hi Melissa! I just bought this and I have tested in my nose (yep, maybe not a good idea). I used a tiny Portion and I let it for less than 5 minutes. When I wash it, my nose was completly red 😰. After 20-30 minutes was everything allright again. Is that a normal reaction?

    • @MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet

Have you used it "in" your nose or "on" your nose? Because it is not meant to use inside your nose. If you used it "on" your nose and it became red, you could react to an ingredient (likely the Salicylic Acid) in the masque. So I wonder if you have already used Salicylic Acid products before? And what cleanser did you use, and what else did you use? 🤔

      Hello Lilly,
Yes, that should be alright. Mandelic Acid is a very gentle exfoliant. So it shouldn't cause any issues. But also, the frequency is individual and depends on your skin tolerance so that it may work well for a certain amount of time. Still, all of a sudden, it changes so that you will experience sensitivity so that you need to reduce the frequency of the masque or Mandelic Acid.
