@@permanentmeanstreak9054 definitely not necessary but an easy option to have. I did two that way because I had bought them to test out and the rest with a block of wood
Great video, one of the best I’ve seen on patching + matching texture. Those cans of texture do work pretty well (though it really does take practice / skill to blend and match existing texture), but boy are they spendy if you have, say, moved a wall and have a large area to texture. The square coverage the cans state they give is lies. 😂
This is a great video to get the important basics of drywall work. But there's one detail I wanted to point out: The drywall compound that comes in a powder that you add water to is a quick set type. It has a hardener in it that allows it to set before it dries. It's used for filling gaps and for mesh tape since it doesn't shrink nearly as much as compound without hardener. You always want to go over a quick set compound with a normal one because paint will flash through. It's like you said about patches having a different sheen. I'd recommend looking up Vancouver Carpenter here on RUclips. He has a lot of very informative videos that get into all the nuances of drywall work
Thanks for the drywall patch demo! I wasn’t familiar with those drywall clips, nice to know! Thank you!

Another excellent video Emily 😊🎉. I liked the way you did the texture.

@@readyplayer2 oh for sure! They’re expensive. I might borrow a texture gun if I had to do a lot
Nice work! I hope you kept the security deposit.
Thanks! The house was destroyed beyond the security deposit and he skipped out on the last months rent. I will probably send him to collections.
Nice work!
