- I think every handyman and homeowner should know how to repair drywall. Some jobs require the drywall to be opened and you'll have the confidence to repair it. Sometimes you have to repair your own mistakes.

Those silicone pans are brilliant. Amazing,
They're great for hot mud, especially small repairs.
The bread pans are a brilliant idea.
After I started using my multi to cut out drywall… I never went back! Lol. I do turn the blade to the side because I’m lazy and don’t want an arm workout doing these repairs all day.
Only thing I do differently to finish is use a wet sponge to sand and blend in my repairs so I don’t have to drag the vac back out
You always have good content man! 💪🏽
multi tool is a game changer.
Plywood strips work great. They dont split like 1x2 does sometimes and drywall screws hold good.
My man with the 16 ft Fat Max! The only tape I will ever buy. I dig your videos man! You have been very informative and inspirational. I'm just starting my business and I'm stoked man! Thank you for your videos
I'm glad I can help. Getting started is the hardest part so congratulations! I've tried a bunch of different tapes but in the end the Fat Max is the only one that I use.
Violent keyhole saw! Love it Brother Daryl! I always said that it ever returned to war with the Army, I would pack one of those double serrated drywall saws. Just the sight of that saw is a deterrent. Thanks for the content!
@@DarylTheFINISHER so true. Like you, I have switched to using a multi tool as often as I can and like you, with a vacuum right there for dust control. I noticed you really made a point of cutting shallow with the multitool to avoid wires/plumbing…. Very cool and expected with a detail oriented contractor like you. Love the videos!
NOTHING BEATS SILICONE FOR THE FASTEST PATCHING !
Great video. Have you tried wet sponging instead of sanding? It works better then sanding without the mess.
Bro seeing You workin sheetrock inspires me, yah I've done DIY stuff around the house but to see a pro behind the scene tips is awesome !
Thanks, much appreciated! Glad that you're getting something out of it.
Great video! Super informative
I appreciate you bro!
Bro you chill... I could watch just to relax!!!
Great job.
Thanks for the humor; makes your video so enjoyable! I've learned so much. You are truly a master of your craft! No fear to remove dry wall all thanks to you!
Nice job. I like the bread pan idea. I’m gonna borrow that one.
Thanks, it's great for hotmud
Good job daryl ❤
Thanks for the tool list. I have the heater in my Amazon cart
I love the commentary!
i used to get so into finishing and getting all the little lines out on first finish coat and noticed how much time i wasted.... it all sands off flat!!!! thats good work if you dont kno w
Absolutely, no need to sand in between coats
NEVER HOLD A HARD PAN AGAIN GREAT CHOICE!
You good at what you do
Fantastic work and that silicone pan trick is GENIUS
Thanks for watching, the pans work great for small repairs
Great simple way to repair, thanks I will use this method
Hilarious and also very talented!! Love the instructional video!!
Nice
Thank you, excellent video, keep them coming
Great explanation of the sanding. Lighting is the best way to tell if your sanding is done. Thanks for the share,
I’d throw a few rows of mesh, 2-3 coats of 5 min and topcoat with lightweight. Make sure to sand shiny/contaminated surfaces a little to ensure joint compound sticks (usually not necessary but can be crucial when using quickset, adding some plaster/masonry glue to the first coat turns your quickset into all purpose)
Nice work. You're very skilled and all around. Id hire you for so many things.
Nice great video lots of great tips 🤘🤘🙏💯💯
FinaFuse makes a 6” wide. It works better for small patches.
I've seen those that would have been perfect for this job. Matter of fact they sell a 3-ft wide roll too.
Silicone pans are genius!! I did the drywall repairs in my bathroom and use sheet rock 45. It was a larger job than the video but found that using an egg beater attached to my drill made making larger batches much easier
Question, whats the purpose of Plus 3? Could you not mix a different batch of Sheet rock 45 instead?
That tape is the best and I have used it with great results even in an inside corner....It does not crack or lift in places that paper tape does over time....I have a couple places in my old house that always cracked with paper tape. This fiber tape has not cracked or lifted where paper tape always did.....
I agree, I love the stuff. I use a reinforced paper on the corners but everywhere else I use fibafuse.
grats on 1k subs bud.
Thanks and same to you
Cool
Good work bro, I think I'm getting a heater and head lamp
stanley fat max is the way to go on any job. especially when you do masonry for years and see every other tape falling apart and unusable after a week or so. fat max will last. and extend 10 ft or more
I've usedmany other tapes but in the end Fat Max is the one
You're driving your wife crazy, she's been searching everywhere for that damn bread pan!
so do you sand in between each compound coat or just after the last one?
Great video. What is your time on a job like this? I know you said you were doing other things at the site, but for this job how long would it take you?
Thanks for watching. It would take me about hour maybe a little more if I'm painting the repair. If your applying texture to the wall you can use hot for the entire repair which may help you finish faster.
Man, thats fast for 3 layers to dry! I like it! With this heater fan, how long does it take for one layer of 45 to dry?
Love my olfa. Here's a hack get a self sticking phone clip and stick that on so your not digging in your pocket for it. I put a little gorilla glue on the back for a better bond.
What do you charge for a repair like this?
So how many layers of mud so you put?
With different thicknesses of drywall. Do you always carry both with you?
Hello, do you have to put primer on after the plus 3 before painting? I always see a little flashing when I repair holes in drywall. For example, I use 5 minute mud, then some all purpose green lid compound, create knockdown texture, and then paint. But I always seem to see some flashing when I look at wall from an angle. Thank you.
It doesn't matter what kind of drywall mud you use, you need some sort of primer over it. I always keep a small can of bin primer with me because it dries faster than other primers. I've heard people say that emerald or duration paint from Sherwin-Williams won't flash a small repair but I've never tried it.
@@DarylTheFINISHER Thank you so much!
Excellent!
I've always put backer boards in.
The videos of just the piece put in - sometimes with the paper borders (California) drive me nuts.
Excellent tutorial.
I didn't learn about fibafuse until a few weeks ago. I definitely like it. I was working a project jointly with another handyman.
Keep rockin!!
What grit is the sand block?
Rapid set one pass wall repair 20 minute mud with fiber tape. Dries much faster than the other so called 20 minute muds.
That's an excellent product. It's also very moisture resistant once dry. Good for bathrooms or other wet areas. If longer working times are needed you can add a sprinkle of "Set Control" by Rapid Set. It's a retardant that can increase the total working time from 10-15 min up to 30-45+ mins.
I've never used that one but I'll definitely try it out. Thanks!
Hi Daryl! Great video and awesome content! Btw, Ray Duke sent me here. I'm glad I came! Would this repair be completed in 1 day? I've read where some people say to be careful about cracking the compound with too much heat. Is that a concern for you? Maybe that's more of a concern for hot mud?
Appreciate you swinging over here, Ray is a good guy. This repair can be done in an hour or two with a heat gun. The heater I use doesn't get as hot as the heat gun but yes, if you leave it for a long time it could crack the mud. I got caught up one time doing work in a different room and left it for maybe an hour and a half and it cracked the top coat a little so I had to sand and remud it.
Thank you Daryl for the pointers. On repairs this small and similar in nature, could you use just multiple layers of the topping compound?
Yes but why make it a multiple day job?
Always waiting for a new video from the finisher
I spent a lifetime doing the same type of repair with 2 daughters growing up there were no doorstops that would prevent them from putting a door knob through the wall
love your mixing pans
Question I see you using 16’ fatmax my go to tape measure I’m looking to get the auto lock and being told to go with Milwaukee what’s your take on this ??
I’ve literally seen the auto lock feature on the Milwaukee 16ft fail in store brand new.
@@DarylTheFINISHER thanks, there’s also a big difference in price Milwaukee auto lock $14, fatmax $22 old saying you get what you pay for going with stanly FM
@@ChrisBranleh, thx for the info going fatmax
This is probably a dumb question, but why not use a cali patch? Is it because its behind the door and gonna get banged again or is it just better to use the wood to reinforce it and attach the patch? I had to pull out a light switch from my hallway because the wiring in this house is funky and had to be fixed. Drove me nuts and now I have to patch it.
Not a dumb question at all. There's nothing wrong with the California patches . In spots that have the potential to be hit again or if movement is a concern then I like to reinforce with wood. It's just a preference.
That's a great job, but what application would you use with a bucket of compound (green top)?
I would use the green lid all-purpose joint compound anytime I use a tape made of paper or some sort of composite.
Perfect video! And @vancouvercarpenter would agree with the fibafuse!
When I use heat gun, the mud starts bubbling and when dries, it leaves lots of small holes. Why is that happening?
I keep gun moving and still bubbles.
You might just have the heat gun too close to the patch. I've only seen it bubble up if it gets too hot.
@@DarylTheFINISHER ok, thanks
the real challenge is tapping over texture. and we use 20 min mud as you should know...
Patch at Home Depot
California patch requires none of that & is much quicker to patch!
I do those from time to time but it just depends on where I am making the repair.
Great work on everything, I subscribed thanks a bunch! Off topic though, my wife says either you’re a Pieces or Cancer. Can you confirm so I can win our bet?😉
I am a cancer. I don't know much about zodiac signs though, what gave it away?
Wholesaw is your friend. Wholesaw cut out the broken wall hole, same wholesaw cut out your patch piece then do the rest as shown in the video.
The knife looks dangerous 😅
It does, like something from gladiator or 300.
Glad you didn't do a weak-ass "california patch".
I'm not a fan of those either
Love fibafuse. I would've went 45 for the first 2 coats, then plus 3, then after sanding hit it with pva and a back roll so the painter doesn't need to try priming with paint and making it flash
Much appreciated! When I'm showing the job as a repair guy then I would do the same as you. Most homeowners I tell to do a couple coats of plus three because it's easy to sand and much more forgiving than hot mud. Since it's their house, they're usually not pressed for time anyway.
@DarylTheFINISHER agree. Hot mud can get away from you..... then you're sanding for a million years. Easy sand my ass
Yeah, those drywall saws 🪚 can give a nasty cut. Oscillating tool is definitely safer and more accurate. Peace Daryl!🖖🏼
Lose the music.
I got to igive it to you bro that is a genius idea I built my own home myself and I got to say I never seen such a great ideal💡..💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💯💯💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💯💯💯💯
Much appreciated!
