  • this is my review of the Rock Island Armory 1911 chambered in 9 mm. What a great shooting gun. I know a lot of purists will cringe that it's in 9 mm but if they could get over that they would probably enjoy how smooth of a shooter it is. I hope you enjoy.

    People can complain all they want about how wrong it is to run a 1911 in anything in .45 ACP. I wonder if they have ever experienced a 9mm 1911? They are incredibly flat shooting, low recoil and accurate. Regardless of what anyone says a 9mm 1911 is on my "want" list for 2021. Great review, man!

      Self defense range changes in a brutal civil war 2. Try a true custom build, at home. 🤑You are strong enough for 45!😖

      I'm getting older, so I'm gonna pick me up a 1911 in 9MM, but want a "budget friendly" model, so from all my research so far, I think it'll be hard to pass up the RIA. Of course, I have 1911's in .45, but if a 1911 9MM is good enough for Ken Hackathorn over at Wilson Combat, it's gonna be good for me too:)

    First I was going to get the RI 1911 9mm with the 22tcm9r barrel but instead got the Armscor 22tcm9r barrel for my Glock 17.

    I could be wrong but colt was shipping 9 mm 1911s round 90 years ago for foreign contracts. Its one of the best gun for ease of use remember caliber is a matter of what you prefer I own ones in 9mm,38super and 45

    Good review. I just added a Rock Ultra FS in 9mm to my 1911 family, which includes a Rock Ultra FS in 10mm and the Rock Ultra CCO in .45ACP. I've had these other two RIA 1911s for a couple years now, and I would say my two older Rocks shoot every bit as well as my Dan Wesson and my Colts (Commander LW and Mk IV Government models), perhaps even better.

      Thanks for watching. Yeah I really like it. My only wish is that the detent was a little stronger on the safety. On a hammer fire gun I want a little more resistance on the safety if it am going to carry it with 1 in the chamber. Not a big deal though because I don't use a 1911 as a daily carry personally.

    When I decided that I wanted to add a 1911 to my collection, I watched a lot of videos and decided on the RI 1911 in 9mm. I already have a good supply of 9mm ammo and had no desire to add a new caliber to my arsenal. I also like shooting 9mm over larger calibers.
    My RI 1911 is a great pistol and very dependable.

    Love mine. I love to see the whining of it not being a .45 I love shooting 600 rounds of 9mm over 600 rounds of .45 when shooting steel. This gun is very very accurate. At least mine is.

    I love 9mm in a full metal gun,1911,CZ 75 or a 92 are nice shooters if a little heavy for EDC.

    The 9x19mm Luger is less expensive ammunition (at least under normal circumstances) than .45 ACP, so this may be a good choice from that perspective. I like shooting 1911s, and I prefer .45 ACP in that platform, but I am not against other calibers if the gun still cycles. My suggestion is if you get a chance try out a Hi-Power.

    • @defensedad
      @defensedad  4 года назад +2

      I'd like to shoot a Hi-Power sometime. I don't know anyone here who owns one. Eventually I'll get another 1911 in .45 ACP too. Prices and ammo availability need to get closer to normal though before I start another new caliber. I don't have the budget of bigger channels who have sponsors.

    I have the same model and have really enjoyed it. The only modification was I replaced the ambidextrous thumb safety with a standard GI model thumb safety because the original safety would rub on the thumb of my shooting hand and cause discomfort, since it extends out so far. Other than that it is a fine handgun to own and at a very affordable price.

    I have a RIA 1911 in 9mm. It's better, as in more reliable than the M1911A1s Uncle Sam issued to me in the 70s/80s. Those malfed about every 500 rounds, and were good enough for me and others to bet our life on in WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. BTW, 9 mm FMJ from a P35 will go through both sides of a German helmet at 120 yds; 45 FMJ will bounce off at 35 yds. RIA is to 1911s what Mossberg/Maverick is to shotguns. Or Walmart is to Neiman Marcus..

      Thanks for watching. I do get a fair amount of crap for having a 1911 in 9mm but the gun is a joy to shoot. It tends to be a go to when I just want to shoot without filming and just have some fun.

    Thanks for sharing your first 1911 experience. Rock Island (Armscor) makes decent guns for the money. We put a 9mm RIA up against an STI Duty One Lite 5.0 in Part 5 of our Great Affordable 1911 Series, and an RIA .40 caliber up against an STI Duty One 4.0 in Part 14 of the series. (Links below.)
