- I absolutely love my new Rock Island Model M1911 A1-FS .45 ACP Burnt Bronze pistol. I have owned lots of 1911 pistols over the decades and this Rock Island really is the best $499 I ever spent on one.
Rock island makes amazing 1911s, probably one of their most underrated is the double stack gi in 45
My Son has an RIA 1911 double stack. It is a great shooter too.
Are the double stack versions only for people with giant meat hooks?
thanks, probably my next purchase.
@@exothermal.sprocket Yes. You can get thin grips to help, but big mitts help a lot. It is a heavy beast which makes it shoot well. They are WAY too heavy to Every Day Carry.
@@myfavoritemartian1 I sort of figured. I'm not in demand for over 8 rounds of .45 anyway. I think too much is made about capacity from people who judge everything by the function of 9mm.
I grew up with so many guys like you. (My elders) Many no longer with us. I really value guys like you, Mix. Our kind of people are becoming rarer and rarer everyday.
Love seeing the son so comfortable on cam you can tell how awkward he felt when you first brought him on way back lol. Can't beat the father son dynamic so wholesome. Glad to see yall back my favorite shooting channel hands down!
Palmetto State Armory currently has one of the top end models of .45 1911s from Rock Island, the Pro Ultra Match for $420. Just picked one up this week and it is amazingly well fit and very accurate! Rock Island is killing it for value.
Same i picked up the cerakote grey efs for 419$ crazy deal.
Yes, because they're from the Philippines. These are the pistols they use over there. 1911 is practically a religion over there. They have honed the fine art of 1911 pistol smithing ever since the first pistols were left over there after WW2.
Yeah, buddy...great pistol.
I've got an RIA compact 1911 that I've had for a few years. It's been ultimately reliable, accurate, and fun to shoot. It's one of my favorite guns.
Rock Island Armory never disappoints. Love the 45 ACP models. The 10mm Tac models are beautiful, also. Love the G10 grips.
The man is a good shot. Looks like his father taught him well. Bravo, sir.
Hello John. I have never owned a 10mm pistol but if I get one it will probably be a Rock Island version. My son thanks you for the compliment and we both thank you for watching and commenting on our video.
@@mixup98Get the springfield XDM Elite 10mm, great gun
Nice.
Bought my first 1911 a week ago, it's the same Rock Island but all the black model, awesome gun for $500.
Super happy with it, so far it's performed flawlessly with 150rds of mixed fmj and jhp ammo out of new and used Mec-Gar mags I bought off Ebay
Good luck with it! You will enjoy it.
Rusty? Looks to me like the only trouble you guys had was with the swing on that clanger. 😁 Great job, and a great pistol.
Sweet pistol! So many freedom seeds being planted by you two! 😊
Favorite part is the dirt being kicked up beyond the target.
Glad to see you guys back! I solved the problem with my steel targets jumping off the hooks by getting an old fire hose and making a loop and bolting it through the hole on the target. It doesn't fall off, plus it doesn't walk along the cross bar as badly when I set up the 8 ft. long one for multiple targets. If it gets shredded by spall, I have more firehose and can just make a new one in no time at all.
I did chain, until I hit a link 😂
That’s why I went with the hose. It’ll take several hits.
I will say that with my RIA 1911s, the mags that often come with them hang up or nose-dive on hollow points. Wilson Combat, original colt mags, and McCormick mags have worked just fine with defensive ammo, though!
Agree. I ordered a couple Wilson Combat 9 round 10mm and they work great. All come with pads too.
Agreed. The Act-Mags that come with them have been a bit troublesome with nose dives.
Is that the Wilson Combat 47D magazine that you have as a replacement?
Had the same issue and a Pro Mag I was using broke but the Chip McCormick ones work great.
@PsychoticGenius Yes, I found that Pro Mags were junk 🤣 years ago. The only reason I bought one recently was it was under $15 and and was to a Sig p226 which was compatible with my Taurus G2c. Since being rendered a poor by the erstwhile spousal unit, in conjunction with fmj 9mm 124gr, it's the only way for me to mag dump 😄 the little pistol.
@@TacticalTerry I'm not sure specifically on the model of the magazine but if you know how to differentiate them I can check mine real quick
Sweet! Luv the burnt bronze. Nice shooter. Nice shootin'.
I just acquired a RIA 1911 in 22 TCM (actually more like a 2011 because it's double stack, 17 rounds) and it's a beast! Nice trigger, no malfunctions in first 100 rounds. Guys at the range were prairie-dogging, trying to see what this fire-breathing, magnum thumping weapon was that was only putting tiny holes in the target! Good to see you two back out, now that the pot pie baking weather has passed.
Good to see you guys back. Sweet looking 45
Thanks from Ireland enjoyed the video something iconic about a 45 proper man’s Gun 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🍀
Hello gerardohalloran and greetings from the United States. My son and I thank you for taking the time to watch and comment on our video.
@@mixup98 👍👍👍
Warms my heart. Father and son shooting. My son moved away. We used to do this.
It's good to see you two out again!
I grew up with 1911's. Got my first one in the 1960's, a 1953 Colt Commercial. I still have it! I have shot most all brands and the smoothest is an RIA two tone (Nickle on bottom and blued on top) I still have it too. Lately my Son bought me a Sig P320 Compact and I am getting to know it. So far so good!
Cool!! Love the new “toy.” RIA seems like a great company making quality stuff at a fair price! If anyone knows differently about RIA’s stuff please let us all know! Enjoying your son in the videos, y’all make a great father-son team!!
RIA gets things right more often than not. I'd gladly buy one new or used. Doesn't feel as polished as some of the flashier high-profile brands, but once the RIA is adjusted right it runs far as the ammo supply will take it.
@@TacticalTerry The only thing I'd change on my MS (4.25 length, basically a commander) is the sights. I've got the same sights as the one here. They're great for the range, but I'd like some sights that work better in low light.
The reason they are so good but cheap is because they're made with filipino love. These are the pistols they use over there. 1911s are very very popular there, and they take immense pride in their craftsmanship.
I have the exact same pistol. Nice shooter. Original magazine had issues, replacement perfect. Magazines seem to be the thing to watch on these.
Exactly same experience. Change out your mags and it runs perfect
I had the same issue with the mag and the guy at the store told me to leave my mag loaded for about a week in the safe so the spring can get used to it. And now it works fine
Your back! Happy to see you again.
Mixup, you're son never disappoints! It's obvious that he's been trained by one of the best! You're still lightening fast and accurate from the leather, yourself.
I bought my first RIA 1911 in the year 2011. The factory mag proved to be problematic so I switched it out for some Wilson 47Ds left over from my IPSC days and haven't had a problem since, it's been utterly reliable. It's my EDC now, here on the family ranch in central Texas. Semper Fi, TreeTop
Absolutely 👊🏻🇺🇸
Tree Top 1947, Bought my RIA in 2010, still have it over 1500 round, one failed to feed. Safety fell apart and I sent it back to RIA and they fixed it free of charge and fast shipping . Great gun!
GREAT to see you both back at it. 👍
Just a joy watching you guys having fun sending some lead down range with a beauty like that. 😍👌🏻
Wow, you get some great buys out where you're at! Glad to see the both of you shooting again! Always fun to watch you! 8D
Rock Islands quality has really come around, you guys did some good shootin'
Wow, that burnt bronze is absolutely beautiful. And you guys certainly taught that steel Target a lesson. Don't hang around when the boys are in town!
Great to see you two shooting again. Great pistol especially for the price. Heck yeah
Thanks for the heads up AND the fun video. It's great when you are both out there.
Good video good to see you both back. Rock Island makes great 1911's, I have 2 that I can shoot 5 different calibers out of. Being able to buy slides, barrels and needed parts from Rock Island makes it possible.
Nice buy. The frame to slide fit looks better than my Colt Gold Cup. Good to see you guys make another video. Stay cool.
Looks like a real nice weapon. Always liked the RI 1911s and that one in that color is awesome looking. Glad you're back.
I bought the same exact RIA 1911 used. Saw it on the internet and ordered it. Picked it up at a local FFL. It was well used and never cleaned. I think who ever had it before me shot it till it stopped working. Came in a gun rug, no papers, and one magazine. I took it home, gave it a quick cleaning and lube. Took it to the range and fired about 10 rounds thru it before I started having failures. Took it home again, detail stripped it, scrubbed and lubed every piece. I used Wilson Combat oil on the rails. The next time I went to the range, I took 150 rounds. Only had one failure to go into battery after about 120 rounds. It's just breaking in. I love it.
Great to see you guys back out there. I recently got my hands on a RIA 1911 in 22TCM / 9mm, can’t wait to get back out to the range again. It’s been HOT!
Son is a pretty darn good shot. Also love the blooper footage at the end. Alot of time and effort goes into editing a slick video. I enjoy seeing the mistakes along the way. Nice to see you both out there again.
Hello Jeff. Summer is almost over and my son and I are glad that we are finally able to get outside and start making our videos again. Your feedback is much appreciated and we should have a new video posted in a week or so.
Excellent find. Love it. As always good vids. Bloopers are always hilarious 😂. Stay well and looking forward to the next one. 😊😊😊😊😊
It's great watching you guys get out there. We haven't been under 100 degrees since June 13 2023. 🥵 I don't like indoor ranges too much so we're waiting a little longer. I'm getting an itchy trigger finger but at least I'm saving money on ammo, lol.
Congratulations on the new pistol. It looks great and the price was excellent.
You guys really make it look fun.
Hey back again . Great to see you glad you could make a video ,very hot summer here too my village burned down some due to wild fires but we are ok Thank God and back to near normal now with my favourite Saturday's shooting duo
Really nice to see you guys back. Enjoy your videos a lot.
Nice to see something other than a poly nine!!! Thank you!!
Good to see you boys back. I got a couple of RI 1911"s and they both are great. Thanks for another great and fun video.
Good to see you guys.
Great to see you guys back at it. I enjoy seeing the guns and the relationship between father and son.
We are glad to be back, Ronald 👍😎 👍😎
Amen
Good to see you back. That’s a nice looking 1911. Money well spent.
Great to see y’all are back!!
I bought a RIA cs1911a1 45 back in 2015 I've got around 3000rounds through it never had any issues at all it will cycle any 45acp rounds out there even steel and aluminum cased ammo. Great gun. RIA definitely makes great firearms and has great customer service plus life time warranty......
I got the prodigy 4.25 version and it's the first 1911 style I've ever owned. Now I'm looking into other 1911 models single stack or double. They are just awesome. Great video
Welcome back miss seeing your videos I understand the heat anyway very nice 1911 rock island armory thanks for sharing mixup98
I've been eyeballing one of the pearl-handled nickeled RIA 1911 for quite a while. Just an itch I want to scratch. I think you've put me over the edge, so I'm going to grab it!!! Great job as usual, hot as hell here in Texas too. You guys take care out there!
Great to see you guys back, it has been a minute 👍
Always a pleasure big man , stay cool out there , 100 today in Alabama , too hot to shoot and enjoy it .
Great to see you two!
$499?! 🤠👍
Good to see you back.👍👍👍
That’s one pretty pew! I have a RI 22TCM 1911 and it’s one of my favorites. Keep up the great work gents. Love what you boys do!
Thanks! Will do!
I really enjoyed this. I came into a Rock Island a while ago, haven’t yet tried it. I appreciate the “preview.” 👍
Absolutely love rock island 1911 it just works so smooth and great ergonomics on it! Great vid
You all ways have a great video on shooting and guns 💯👍
Can't go wrong with a Rock Island 1911 to start your 1911 ownership. God bless.
I recently bought my first ever 1911. It's a tisas replica of the GI issue 1911a1. So far, I love it. Once I tried a friend's ww2 production 1911, I knew I just had to have one. It's currently my edc.
The Filipinos make some of the best budget 1911s. Always fun to watch you guys out in the desert shooting.
Love that burnt bronze on that one. I have a milspec. 45 by IRA and due to living in the city I still haven't had a chance to shoot the darn thing. Watching you and your son shoot together reminds me of when my dad and I used to shoot together when I was growing up and just learning
Great gun channel. A man that knows a lot about guns, loves guns and has his son with him having good times shooting guns. Don't get any better or more American than that.
Good to have you back. Awaiting your Tracker 800 review. I already know you will like it . Boy are they quiet.
Fun video fellas! The bloopers at the end. 👍😂
Other than one hiccup the RI looked like a great pistol to take to the range. Good looking pistol as well.
I’d say it’s a keeper.
I love my rock island 1911 45 they make excellent 1912's another great video thanks you guys
Best gun channel on the planet...glad you guys finally made it back from your hiatus following the Motor City Madmans "Adios Mofo" tour...Mixie, you find the absolute sweetest deals on lead slingers....was good seeing your boy, "dead eye" & Christian Bale doppelganger back and on the mark as usual....young eyes I reckon....keep em coming men!...FJB..
The student is starting to learn very well from the master but that is what an instructor does he passes along as knowledge
Awsome video. Im very glad i found your channel.i live in Pennsylvania. Nevada looks beautiful. You and your son are ver good shots. And you shoot awsome pistols. I love 1911 45 also .i learned them in the US army. God bless
GLAD you guys are back!!!
It is so good to see you and son back making videos. Glad it is cooling down for you. I owned a RIA in 10mm. One thing for sure it isnt your grandmas gun
That is a nice Pistol. Glad you got to shoot n show.
Got one of those in my collection. Added two Wilson combat mags to the OEM mag it came with. No issues. Love it.
Thank you for the video and review. I am glad to see you back.
We are glad to be back and we hope to have several more videos posted this month.
Thank you. Love a .45. When ever friends come over to my little .22 range, the second Mag is ALWAYS left handed. God Bless and stay safe.
Meatloaf said "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad" so 7 out of 8 must be better! Nice looking pistol, and great shooting as always! Glad the weather let up a bit so that you boys could get out there 👍👍
Good to see you guys again. Been thinking about getting an RIA 1911 and now I guess I have too!
I have the same model in 45 . However mine is the basic black. Love the color of yours. I use 2 MecGar 7rnd mags. 1 KimPro 8rnd, & an Ed Brown 8rnd. Only problem I have had in 2 1/2 yrs is a Russian steel case ammo that didn't have a pass thru between the primer pocket & the case. Locked her up tighter than Scrooge @ Christmas. Did no damage to the firearm. RIA "rocks"
Thanks guys! Shooting and having a good time doing it is my favorite thing. And the 1911 is my favorite platform. So, good video!
Much appreciated, granddad 👍😎 👍😎
It is always so good to see both of you. I like the new intro with still pictures. PSA had a $299 deal on RIA 1911s a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if it is the same kind or not. Thank you for another great video.
I can confirm, I picked mine up 3 weeks ago. Black parkerized and on clearance for $319 + shipping.
Love the sound of the echo in the mountains.
Excellent video, thanks for sharing!!👍🏼😊
I finally broke down and bought this exact version 3 years ago and it's turned into my favorite pistol.
Fun video! A friend of mine is on a 1911 kick; he has recently added 3 Tisas 1911s to his collection, and loves them! He has the Service 1911, the Raider and finally the Stingray.
love where yall shoot, the echo sounds reminds of the old western movies I love. Wish we had some where like that shoot in Texas where I am at
I remember back in like 2012 when we use to get these for 275 dollars. Worth every dollar. Most gun for the money around. Still worth it in 2023
I'm so glad you guys are back. Great gun for the money, so I can't wait to shoot one
Good to see you back out shooting!
Good to see you back! Son is quite a shooter. Had a very good teacher.
Great Shooting, and a very nice looking 1911! 👍👍💥💥
I have thought many times about picking one of these up. They seem to be pretty good for the money. I am glad youre making videos still, and hope you get some cooler weather.
Good to see you back 👍🇬🇧
Great to see you guys again!!!
Thank you Cliff. Good to hear from you 👍😎 👍😎
Glad to see you again! 😊
Great shooting guys. Welcome back !
I'm been wondering about these.....glad to see a review I can trust
Great to see you guys back out shooting together. Seems to be a sweet shooter. The bloopers are great
We are glad to be back and we hope to have a new video posted in the very near future.
I agree. Rock Island makes a very solid 1911 at good price point. I own the 10mm and the TCM-22, both 1911s. I hope one day you can dive a review on the TCM-22, an exclusive cartridge from Armscor. That and the 5.7 x 28mm are one of the best kept secretes in firearms today. Tiny and fast for both defensive and varmint hunting. Next to zero recoil, but plenty of devastation on your chosen targets.
Great shooting guys!!! Welcome back, Thanks for the entertianment !!
I have a Citadel branded Rock Island and I have no regrets about the purchase. It didn't like hollow points when I first got it but after I polished the feed ramps it was fine.
