We live in a rural area. Its been very difficult to cultivate friendship. My kids friends are eachother. We have always homeschooled and have always struggled finding other homeschoolers. We finally got a hs resource center in our area and most of the kids already know eachother some how and my kids are so shy. I am embarrassed to say that I have contemplated putting my kids in public school just to so they can be around other kids more even though deep down I don't feel like that's the best answer. I already have a junior in high school. I just hope it's not too late. I try to involve them in things (not sports). But different classes, they've never been good friend making opportunities. Also, on the other hand I often think friends are over rated. For both my husband and I they have come and gone over the last 30 years. I do hope my kids are able to make friends some day but I know its not the most important thing.

I can relate with you that it can be hard to break in to a group sometimes and you have to forge your own way more than if they are in school.
I also agree that kids don't need a large group of friends. If they have just a few close friendships, that will be a good support for them.
I hope you can find peace about a balance that fits for you and the kids!

Thank you! Great tips. The years really are short. In my home, it's apologetics that I so badly want my kids to know before they are gone. And it's the best to be able to learn alongside them at this age. I agree with you that relationship outweighs academics near the end.

You're welcome! Oh that's a good one! Our kids took an apologetics class at our co-op a few years ago and I was so glad they had offered it that year. They learned so much, especially from the discussions.

Love this! To add work samples to portfolio of work done online, like artwork, we print-screen and print it out.

I am so glad I found this video & your channel. I am a homeschool mom in a very urban area of Massachusetts where homeschooling is extremely taboo. I found out recently we are the ONLY homeschool family in our district, which to be honest is no surprise to me. This district has ZERO things aside playgrounds for kids here unfortunately and moving is not an option for us at this time sadly. Still we travel for homeschool friends and activities and make it work. Although I have been homeschooling for 6 years and am confident in our journey, homeschooling a high schooler is brand new to me. My oldest will be starting high school levels this upcoming school year and your video has put me more at ease and more confident I can teach at this level.

Oh wow, good for you! That is awesome! It's not easy being alone...but it's so great of you to prioritize what's good for your kids even if you're swimming upstream. I'm glad this video helped you. I'm working on another video going more in depth with high school transcripts and portfolios, so stay tuned!

Haha! Yep, he's tucked in there! Probably hard to see with all black shirt and moby wrap.
