I Have to agree whit that one. The man can do stand up comedy. Cabaret, sing silly songs. However when he wants to, he has a marvelous singing voice.
just for those who don't know its orginaly not his song. But I Think he does honor Wim Sonneveld the orignal singer.

    I recently turned 60.
And you know? This song makes more sense once your older.
    That's why it's a timeless masterpiece.
Its not about a history or old postcards.
It's about you, being a child not that long ago.. innocent and naive.
and how fast time goes by. And seems to go faster the older you get.
Its the realisation that makes you feel melancholic. Its the realisation that once things are over.... They are over..
Its the true definition of YOLO....
On a side... Beautiful performance, but the Wim Sonneveld version is the one and only for me.
Nice to see at your channel, and spot on reaction...
    Thanks...

The rather lowbrow nature of his comedy didn't help the recognition as a good singer. Unlike with Wim Sonneveld, there was to little connection between the talents. But now it's coming.

A wonderful song that looks back on life in a nostalgic kind of way.
You already know Andre who leads the band, who happens to be one of our biggest music exports, he's popular across the globe, from the Netherlands to Australia, South America, the USA, and Asia (basically, everywhere you go, you can find his music and shows)
The other Andre, he's a national treasure, an old-school comedian/actor/singer/entertainer with a beautiful voice and who also happens to be one of the nicest people you could ever come across, a truly genuine nice and talented man.
The song was originally performed by Win Sonneveld who also was an entertainer/singer/comedian who had beautiful one-man shows filled with stories, jokes and song.
And this is his biggest song, a timeless evergreen for everyone in the Netherlands, it's one of those songs to wind down to, to look back on life and just relax and forget the world for a few minutes.
Ty for checking out our national treasures, Andre van Duin is, to Dutch people, what Betty White is for Americans.. an icon, a living legend.

He sings, he is a comedian, a writer, a moviestar and on and on.

Thank you for playing this. You are spot on with your reaction. Sentimental song. Its almost our second national anthem and I cant keep my eyes dry when Im listening to this song.
Andre v Duin is the biggest comedian we have here in the Netherlands. But he is getting older and slowing things down, and maybe because of this we see him in other ways, playing the more serious roles or as TV show host. Love it humor since a child. I crew up with him, who not here, and he is respected highly by I think young and especialy the older people.
He had his own radio show of a hour in the 70- 80's on the Saturday with lots of scetches. And on the monday everyone was talking about it. Fantastic. Great men. Im a big fan. The comedian but also the more serious men behind the comedian.

Besides Andre van Duin one of the great Dutch comedians. The others are Wim Kan and Toon Hermans. Wim, Wim and Toon are known as the three great onces. Andre definatly should be the fourth on that list.

The village my parents grew up in was a village like this. And we stayed there in summer for 6 weeks every year when I was young, staying with a grandma or or an aunt, playing with my cousins, cycling to the seaside. When I hear rthis song, it al comes back to me. At the funeral of my cousin this was played. He was only 50 y.o.

These nights were absolutely awesome! There are 8000 people on the square, 3000 around the square in the restaurants. Most of them were crying when he sang (or crying with laughter because he sang more than just this song)
Andre van Duin is such a genuine, humble person. I worked there and asked him to take a picture with me after the concert because my Grandpa was a big fan of him and was in the hospital back then. Next week he saw me again and he asked how my grandpa was doing!

André van Duin is the best comedian of the Netherlands, everyone knows him, young (i'm 16 but a lot of people my age don't) and old, he stopped with doing it but he still presents some shows on tv, he is a great comedian, but when he sings songs like these, he is very serious. More people my age should know him for what he achieved.

I grew up with the comedy of Andre van Duin, he was a huge star, think MrBean soft of famous here. Every kid and adult knew him and his sketch shows but he indeed also has a lovely warm voice suitable to this song.

In the first years of André's success as a comedian many people thought that kind of entertainment was vulgar, he wasn't seen as the talent and the wonderful person that he is. But nowadays I guess he has a warm place in about everyone's heart in the Netherlands.

This song is about the village I live.
It is in the southeast of the Netherlands.....
The father of the translator of this song was a doctor in this village.
    The village is called Deurne....

Tears start rolling each 'n every time I hear the first notes of this masterpiece. And eventhough it's actually a cover of a French chanson (La Montagne by Jean Farret) , it now belongs to the unsurpassed Wim Sonneveld and the Dutch people in general, not my words but those of Farret.
Edit: Thanks for reacting to this and thanks to whoever 'Anonymous' may be for requesting this, the fact even Highly get's semi-emotional by this makes me feel a lil' less of a wuss.

Andre's version was really good but yes.... Wim Sonneveld's version was and still is the definitive version.
I was a kid when I first heard it and even then the wistful melancholy touched me.
