Great topic, Dave! I always tell people I really miss those big long King novels that cover a whole small town. I would love to see him write big long small-town novels for Gatlin Nebraska and Ludlow Maine. Sort of big sequels to Children of the Corn and Pet Sematary that dive into those towns the same way Needful Things covers all of Castle Rock or The Tommyknockers covers all of Haven. A Sidewinder Colorado book would be really cool too, as sort of a combined Shining and Misery sequel.

A Ludlow doorstopper novel would be very cool!

Would love a Duma Key sequel. That said, maybe do a Top 10 of King books or short stories not set in Maine? 🤔

I love the way that Stephen King tackles sequels. It's almost more like a spin-off then a traditional sequel. Like if anyone else was tasked to write a sequel to Cujo it was almost certainly have some sort of evil dog. But, that's not that he does. I use Rattle Snakes as an example because it's the most obvious, but the same principle applies to most of his other sequels as well.

My three: 1) The Stand, Just say 20 years down the line, how bad are things in Boulder, if they haven't learned any of the lessons, what if there was an east coast group lead by an old Stu that has to go back to Boulder and set things right or dealing with the fall out
    2) 1408 (this kinda has past in so ways) but I would have loved to seen when you had all those "haunted" shows on tv, and do it like lost footage about a group of these "hunters" going there and how bad the room is and what is the ramifications of the forces in the room being seen and how that could effect the world.
    3) Carrie/Firestarter: Why two, because I could see that Carrie was the reason for the shop coming into being, and go through things maybe as a "Stand" way of going from people working in Shop's perspective and then maybe like Charlie or someone else trying to stop the shop.

Tales from The Stand - an anthology that basically asks the question "if the world dies to captain trips, how does that effect his other novels?? " What happens to Salem's lot or Derry when "food" suddenly becomes scarce? Can a "place" like the overlook or rose red become sick?
Do the creatures in "the mist" roam free now that there is nothing to contain them?
To make the decision: die as a man or live as a werewolf?

    • @DaveReadsKing

There is an anthology of stories, by others who aren’t King, set in the world of The Stand that is coming out this year. Your other suggestions are all great 👍

I would absolutely love a sequel to The Stand. What happened to the world after Vegas? Could Randy Flagg maybe return? What happened to the people of Boulder?
I also would love a sequel to Under The Dome. That would be amazing.

  • @RealHollarius

My first reaction when I read the titel: I don't need one at all. I don't see very many stories, that really are needing one.
Yes, I admit, Firestarter is an idea. But I don't need old Richie Tozier in a retirement home .. perhaps, if he starts to remember? uhm ... okay, I have to stop the idea or I write fan fiction^^
I would love to know about the children of Fran and Stu, the world of The Stand could be nice for a sequel.
But I must admit, some prequels should be interesting: About Derry? Bought. Perhaps some old tales about the man they call RF. 1630 in Germany? and I can't comment without Joyland ... I want to know some stories from the youth of Mr. Easterbrook, carnie from carnie.

Kind of boring but... 'The Tommyknockers'. Haven is a restricted area and alien hunters trespass there to discover there is still some residual alien atmosphere. Could be a fun little short story.

I’d like to see a sequel of the Body from the perspective of Billy Tessio (after the deaths of certain characters). Years later from corruption or living in Castle Rock. Is redemption possible

I feel like in my opinion Firestarter, Pet Sematary and IT could get potential sequels. It depends if it's a short story. Rattlesnakes was an awesome sequel to Cujo. I would honestly like to see Misery get a sequel. I do hope foe a third book in The Talisman series. From what I heard, Stephen King may continue to write the third book solely. Also, rest in peace, Peter Straub 🙏.

Have you listened to any of the audio books? Been listening to Eye of the Dragon and the narration is great, makes Flagg feel real intimidating and creepy.

I'm reading and watching 1994 TV series of the stand side by side. I wonder why King change Flagg from a man to a demon, and why he changed Rita to Nadine (Larry's woman) in the series. I think the book is better than the series. What do you think?

    • @DaveReadsKing
      @DaveReadsKing  Месяц назад +1

I also prefer the book (although not a very big fan of either really). As for merging/swapping characters, I think that often happens for TV just to streamline things a little 🤷🏻‍♂️
