Your tutorials are absolutely fantastic, very concise and easy to understand. Your DevArt account is great too. I've picked up a few pattern books, and thanks to your help, I'm really looking forward to trying my hand at amigurumi! Thank you so much!
I know this is years later, but thank you so much for making this tutorial! I'm currently making a goblin doll with a modified bat pattern and I needed to learn how to make arms and legs. My little guy is going to be so cute!
There's no law saying amigurumi has to be made with acrylic! I've made a few with 100% cotton yarn and they turned out really gorgeous! You could stuff them with cotton batting instead of polyester, too. Natural fibres ROCK for amigurumi!
I agree with Nyctophora. Your tutorials have just the right speed and you are very good at explaining as you go. :) Very helpul for an amigurumi newbeginner! I like that you show the recipe along the way in the video. I could never understand the abbrevations but now it's more clear o me ^^ Thank you!
THANK YOU!!! EXCELLENT tutorial on how to make ears and limbs. Saw others none as easy to follow as yours and they do turn out just like you say beautifully. Thanks again so very much!! Best Regards, A
Thank you so much! I now understand how the starting ring works :) This is a really good explanation at just the right speed. Also, you have a nice voice :) Very clear.
SUCH AN AMAZING TUTORIAL!!! I am working on an amagurami crocheted pig (different pattern)and I have been struggling with crocheting the legs...and attaching the legs!!! This helped me so much!!!
Love your video! I'm following a pattern using a 3mm hook & #4 cotton yarn. How do I get the arm/leg to have the right side of the stitches on the outside? When it curls at the second row the right side is inside and I can't even turn it inside out. It's rather small. (Magic Ring, 6 sc rounds)
I haven't read any amigurumi books yet, but I do recommend seeing if your local library will get them in so you can browse them fully before buying. Some amigurumi books are only available in Japanese, and others, you would want to browse to make sure the skill level is appropriate. Pattern-reading can be daunting when you're starting out (was/still is for me!)
I did notice that some of your pieces are inside out. I didn't hear you note that in the video but you may try to make note of it. I have several friends who like the smooth inside-out look but it can distort shapes since patterns are written specifically for right side-out. No worries if you prefer it that way but a lot of new crocheters may find it confusing. I assembled my first few amigurumi pieces with half right side and half inside out. They were distinctly wonky looking. :)
@echua96 Don't apologize, it's a good question! Crocheting in the round in a big spiral with no joins makes it easy to forget where the beginning of the round was without counting all the time. When you're following a pattern or just trying to match the number of rounds so both arms/legs are exactly the same size, a stitch marker helps you keep track of the number of stitches so you're not stopping to count stitches every single round. Markers aren't necessary, but they are helpful. :D
@Kimpeltjeuh You're right, that bunny's arms and legs were done in one piece. That's something I have planned for a future video. I haven't even shot that yet, for lack of time, but it's on my 'to do' list!
If you stitch that chain circle shut really nicely, then no, there's not much difference at all. But the double ring effectively eliminates a centre hole in the circle.
Hi. Just wondering, is there a difference between the double ring and the usual chain 6? They seem really different but somehow end up looking the same.
Thanks for sharing your opinion. Actually, the texture of the outwards-facing side of the fabric is entirely up to the person making it. Some people perfer the smoother, non-bumpy 'wrong side' to the bumpy 'right side'.
Hello! I know this video was probably a bit ago but I was wondering how would you figure out how big to make your limbs because I am making a doll and I have already made a head I just dont know how BIG or SMALL to make the limbs!! (Also I need to find a video on how to make a body if you have that on your channel I'd love to watch it!) THANK YOU!!
To make larger limbs (or even body), just do additional increase rounds to increase the diameter, and additional straight rounds to make the form longer.
I need the legs to be bigger like how could i adapt this to make them bigger? Im new to all this and i love ur videos btw i literally learned thanks to u
I'm glad you like it! I have the pattern for this pig available free from my journal on deviantART and on Ravelry, just search my name. Or google "wiremysoul amigurumi pig", the link to the pattern is the first result.
Thanks! A tutorial on whole dolls? That's why I've made several videos on small forms, so you can make them and put them together to make a whole doll of your choosing. Make balls for heads and bodies and tubes for arms and legs, and embellish it however you want with yarn for hair, buttons/safety eyes/embroidery for faces etc.
I looooove you! I didn't know how to sew arms or legs to the body >.< Now I'll do it better :D Sorry if my English is not the best ^^ But I understood you perfectly :D

After binding off, I use the end of the yarn to sew it to the body wherever I want it placed. Just plain stitching.

Excellent! I love to read comments like this! Thanks!
This is so neat. My 12 year old is learning to crochet and I thin she would love this. Any book recommendations?
@ThePsmskm When I make amigurumi, I always use a 4mm crochet hook with worsted weight yarn.
i'm confused why do you need a stitch marker when you usually take it out at the end?
sorry beginners' question!
Thanks so much for the kind words! Be sure to send me a link when you post your amigurumi pictures! :D
Very comprehensive and clear! Thanks for uploading! :D
