As a San Franciscan it's hilarious that the movie made the area the church is in, "Noe Valley" look dangerous when it's one of the nicest neighborhoods in the city!

I like this movie, and really liked it as a kid. But now I'm wishing they went all in with some of the themes they could have explored. This could have been Blazing Saddles level humour, which would have been fantastic, but as a PG 90s comedy, it works well. It's fun and sometimes with comedy, you don't want to be challenged with reality - you just want to laugh at some goofy humour with likeable characters who are clearly having a good time. The 2nd one isn't bad for a PG sequel and Lauryn Hill's vocals are amazing. The Sister Act movies are ones you can put on if you just want to end the evening with a smile on your face.
I mean...I always enjoyed the music in it, but the story was always pretty idiotic if you actually know how the catholic church works. If a non wants to "go out and help", she just has to pick the right group. And that is before I get to my view on the catholic church as an organisation.... Doesn't mean I don't like the movie, but it is one of those for which you really have to turn off your mind, hence I don't think exploring themes would have improved it. It mostly works exactly because it is such a simple fun time.
The actual church is named St. Paul not Anthony. The neighborhood compared to this movie is now one of the nicest neighborhoods in the city. So much cleaner and the bar is and stores are no longer there.

My then 9 year old daughter was *obsessed* with this movie and the soundtrack. She knew the words to every song.
Please do the sequel Sister Act 2...I love that one so much more, plus its so different in a good way, having kids with Whoopi too
