Installing a Bluetooth head unit to my 2008 Citroen C1

- In this video, I remove the factory radio and install a Bluetooth head unit. The idea with this is to keep the factory wiring intact, so that if I ever decide to re-install the factory radio, I can. The one caveat to that is that I will have to install some wiring for the rear speakers when I install them, which will be in a different video.

Can’t wait to do this to my mums c1 once it’s mine, keep up the videos :)
Nice upgrade, however a Bluetooth receiver costs around 5 quid. I left the old head unit in and just plug the receiver to the aux input.
I could easily have done that, but the CD player wasn’t working, so I took the opportunity to get rid of it.
sorry I know this comment in months old, but does that easily allow you to play music from your phone, I have an iphone and just purchased a 2007 C1, that's my only issue with the car not being able to do that properly haha
Yup, plays music no problem 👍🏻
Hi Dab DIY, I previously had this cheap radio in my car for about a month before it Konked out 😂…and upgraded to a pioneer for £100 with a built in CD player you should do this as it’s red will match well
Waaayy ahead of you there 😅
Though to be fair to this thing, it worked until the day I pulled it out of the car. Can’t ask for more than that 🤷🏼♂️
@@DABDIY Worked great until it packed in…was shopping in Halfords for some spray paint and ended up coming out with a pioneer unit 😂, great to hear
@AdamR2990 I picked mine up on eBay used, but in practically new condition. Even has the remote microphone for calls too. Great piece of kit.
@@DABDIY it does, great bit of kit being a 3in1 Cd Bluetooth and radio..I had to make an adjustment to the bullet connectors to save my stations
@AdamR2990 common problem. Swap the red and yellow wires around and you’re good to go 👍🏻
I have done the same to my C1 but the Chinesium one was rubbish! It was £9.99 off ebay so i wasnt surprised! 😁 so i broke the budget n went for a £36 cd player with bluetooth / usb slot so i could play all my fave albums.....including Evanescence 👍 another ace vid, thanks 😁
This one is probably very similar to the one you bought, it was about £14. This car isn’t my daily driver, so I’ll run with this one for as long as it lasts and then probably do the same as you did.
Great taste in music by the way 🤘🏻
@@DABDIY love a bit of Evan 👍
Me too. Ever since Fallen was released, I’ve been hooked. Back then, that CD didn’t leave my car radio for 18 months lol. I’ve currently got the new album in the Volvo. I was in the crowd for Anywhere But Home too.
Great place of phone, i will put my phone there too.
Hi, i love so much your video can you make one where you change the odometer light please?
I have every intention of doing so. I had ordered a new facia and LED set for it, but the seller never shipped them. I’m in the process of trying to source a new supplier and then I’ll make the video.
@@DABDIY perfect thank you so much, you have a supporter from Italy!
That’s great news, thank you for the feedback! I hope you like my channel 😊
Would you do a video putting sound deadening material in?
That’s on my to-do list 👍🏻
great tutorial but why would you put in performance speakers and then use a cheap radio with little outputpower ? Just buy a pioneer unit for around 100 pound and get some decent output so the speakers show their real potential .
Way ahead of you with that! Had a pioneer head unit in for about a year now. This cheap head unit was to see if I could make the wiring work. Now that it works, all I had to do was plug the pioneer unit straight in.
Thank you!!!
Hi Dave.
where did you get you mobile mount from? Thank you
Couldn’t tell you, it was in the car when I bought it.
4:25 for some reason i lost 12V on constant wire, i cut off the bluetooth PC that was in i traced all the speaker wires and all of the earth / ignition/ 12v con/ Illumination wire , for some reason i did get 12v yesterday, today i'm not getting it with car off but i do get the ignition 12v, could i have accidentaly fcked something up? cause like i said the main connector the big cube where alll conectors go i didn't touch and i tested also at that and not gettting constant 12 v , im assuming somehow i fcked with teh 12 constant somwhere
I’d start with checking all the fuses first, you’ve likely popped one.
yup it was a fuse, luckily i had an extra one haha, i made sure to cut 1 by 1 wire so i don't know how i popped that fuse, oh well, everything works now =)@@DABDIY
At least you found the problem!
Hi great video! If I could describe my problem : the brown and light green both have a grounding sound when using the multi meter. The blue only shows 3 volts when ignition off (yellow shows nothing when ignition is off) then when ignition is on the yellow shows 12 volts and blue 12 volts. I'm a dumb founded as to what to do. My new radio doesn't come on either no matter what configurations. All fuses are okay too. Any help?
Have you made sure all the correct inputs are in the right place on the new head unit?
Thank you very much for coming back to me but I've sorted it !! The reason I was getting 3 volts was there are two fuses to check : one 15amp one on the left hand side next of the speedometer and another in the fuse box under the bonnet! I only changed the one next to speedometer so was affecting the circuit. Once I changed the fuse I was reading 12 volts constant as per your video ! Thanks a alot. Will
@williamcox6054 excellent news! Glad you managed to sort it 👍🏻
Did you previously fit a double DIN? I can see the plastic bracket that sits behind the radio has been cut at?
I haven’t personally, I can only presume that a previous owner had one in there once.
None of my buttons are working now really on any of my radio the six button doesn’t work either none of them apart from power on and off really do you know how I can work this is recently been driven again but it was driven for 3 months during the autumn winter months is it just too cold that why buttons won’t work?
If you’re referring to the OEM radio, this is something that happens to them a lot, buttons just stop working. It’s mainly because of a build up of dirt and moisture behind the contacts and that prevents the button from working or in some cases, prevents the button from even moving.
For the price of a replacement OEM radio, I’d just do a straight swap or replace it with an aftermarket unit.
Hi, great video, instead of messing with the wires can you not buy an adaptor cable form ebay?
You could if you were so inclined, yes. You’d still have to swap the red and yellow wires around though.
We’ve got a return Citroen C1, and we are keeping the original stereo in because I like the original stereo
Ok 👍🏻
How did you manage to keep the radio on one color? I don't know how to set in on one color instead of having a disco in my car. xD
I didn’t know it’s capable of displaying other colours! Your guess is as good as mine at this point 😅
Where did u get the adapters from ?
They came with the front facia kit, but they’re easily picked up on eBay/amazon etc. standard ISO block adapters.
Do you know Dave that stereo what you’ve got in your car has DAB plus so if you’re in northern you’re not York North Yorkshire you would pick up York mix Radio because Radio is got the AB plus there was Minster FM before I tend to greatest hits radio York, North Yorkshire record times sound like this from the 70s 80s and 90s greatest hits radio
To be honest, I don’t listen to the radio, DAB or otherwise. It’s only ever used to stream music to.
Well I’ve got a Citroen C1 car radio like what you had Dave and it was I mean it is brilliant and one of his friends Graham he said that his friend can get it working so we’re just waiting for that and in the day it will look sort of pale orange daytime or night time brilliant in the dark
H I bought and installed it but i I can't access the address book on this machine
I didn’t know it had an address book
Installed a new cd player which worked fine at first but the power slowly got drained and the player stopped working completely and fuse blew which I've not got fixed, any idea why this happened, I was able to directly connect the cd player to the car and did not mess about with any wiring, also did not connect antenna wire as I don't have the adaptor and don't really need radio.
It sounds like a parasitic drain somewhere.
@@DABDIY what do you recommend doing? I think you're right as my light inside the car and also radio died because of the fuse blowing, should I use a more powerful fuse?
Using a bigger rated fuse only increases the risk of fire, the fuse is blowing for a reason. At this point, I’d suggest that that reason needs investigating by an auto electrician.
@@DABDIY okay thank you
I have tested my “mucky blue” wire and recieving no voltage what could be wrong ?
Have you checked your fuses?
what phoneholder is that?
No idea, came with the car when I bought it
I watch your car videos could you please help me with my c1?
Send your questions to me via Instagram and I’ll do what I can to help, @dabdiy
