It's a superb track in Chiang Mai the best city in Thailand. In this round we take a look at the difference between a Tour Pro and a 5 handicapper. We play 9 holes and highlight where we are different and how to improve. Pro Mo plays on the All Thailand Tour, and the Asian Development Tour, missing out on the full Asian Tour after Q School in 2020. He is the playa's pro!

    My main observation is:
Any handicap over 7 or so is not really looking to GAIN strokes. Above 7 handicap (probably above 4 handicap to be fair), we are looking to REDUCE ERRORS and SAVE STROKES. When you learn to stop wasting strokes and stop making mistakes, either with chipping, decision making, commitment, or something like that, that's when you lower you scores.
When you get down to the 1-3 range in handicap, you still need to reduce errors, but your mental game must be stronger to get below par. You also need to practice like hell. But on top of all that, we can start GAINING strokes.
If I learn to hit a driver that suits me, I can lower my scores drastically. Everything is in place, I need to practice, I need to hit longer tee shots and I need to place the ball better.
But I still make silly errors which could bring me from a 5 handicap down to a 1-2 handicap.
This is the biggest difference and why I don't like the strokes gained craze for the amateur handicap golfer. We are TRYING TO REDUCE ERRORS TO SAVE SHOTS while the ELITE GOLFERS are trying to GAIN STROKES by getting more distance, better proximity to the hole through shorter irons into the greens, more putts holed etc.
Be better than you were last round, and you'll get to your goal.
Be a baus. Just a better baus.
