Funnily enough, for it to be a proper Terço it should be a few units of arquebusers surrounding a massive block of pikemen in the center. The gunners were the main offensive weapon of the formation, whilst the pikemen provided shelter against cavalry
@@dragon12234 generally yes that’s what a tercio formation was, but in Portugal the clung more to the name than the tactics. It seems that the only reason the tercos lost was their inferior range and while they had better reload speed, their guns were still more difficult to reload then the mass produced rifles of the line infantry.
They had 80 men less than the line infantry and that is a lot of difference in Shogun. You rather have 1000men firing 1 arrow at once than 1 man firing 1000 arrows. Despite that the kneel fire ability is real strong ^^
Reload skills doesn't mean actual reload speed as the game has different base stat for different weapons, such as damage, accuracy and reload speed, in older total war games like MTW2 the accuracy is entirely dependent on their weapons, which sadly ruled out any possibility to improve accuracy through experience.
Wonder if they'd have won if they just charged... Tercio have respectable melee stats and the charge advantage, or would the more accurate follow up volley have wiped em out?

This is probably more of a result of there being more line infantry than tercos. Lanchester's N square law and such

The fact that this match went down to the wire despite numerical and technological disadvantage tells something as to how good the Tercos actually are

Very gopod effort by the Portuguese Tercos but it seesm their out of date guns lack of range and their smaller unit size screwed them over

If Matchlock Kachi had similar stats to Portuguese Tercos they would be worth having.

Judging from this, have you determined that Fire By Rank is just too janky versus Kneel Fire/FOTS units?
Yeah, units with Fire by rank waste too much time to reform and prepare to fire, while units with Kneel fire open fire immediately.
