Great video 🤓!!! Last February 2023, I acquired my new 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 which has the 4L NA flat six cylinder engine (same unit as a GT4) and a PDK gearbox. Power output (394 bhp) and torque (317 lb-ft) are a nice match to this car's sensible curb weight (~3200 lbs). The color is Gentian Blue metallic with a black/chalk all-leather interior and silver wheel rims. It's definitely an entertaining driver's car! So far, I've only done 452 miles but hopefully a lot more this coming Summer! The PDK is also a lot of fun (it's definitely quick) 🤓 All the best and thanks again from Colorado! The gearing is always mentioned..... I’ve lived with it for six years now and some other thoughts. The ratios are brilliant for the roads the car was designed to excell on. It’s just that they don’t have any bearing to the speed limits. Drive it like nobody’s looking, and they’re bang on! 1st gear is fully exploitable in the dry, which is not the norm for cars of this power. Even the 2.5T GTS has full traction in 1st. This makes them really fast out of the really tight corners etc. Almost a 4x4 level of traction. These cars are about fluidity and balance. The sweet spot for fun and sane speeds. They are not supposed to be traction limited wild hairy rides, which shorter gears would make them. The 911 has amazing traction due to a byproduct of its packaging. The Cayman is given the same attributes via gearing. I just think it’s what Porsche want from their series production cars.
That is a hell of a dilemma to be fair! Both great cars. I think the original 981 would be a better keeper though, but depends what you want from it I suppose. 🤷🏻♂️
I've been tempted to trade my 2017 TTRS in for an R8....but found myself time and time again looking at the 718 cayman. Never been a porsche fan, but why do I keep looking at them?
What about the Miata ND as a great roadster on these B roads and save big money. This is a great car but way too expensive for most people. Is it really that much more fun? I’ve owned a 987.2 2012 manual 6 cylinder Boxster
You make a valid point and I get what you mean..... but If you are able and lucky enough to be able to spend this sort of money on a great sports car then I do think they have come on since then yes. There are still amazing older cars that give similar fun levels and similar “smiles per mile” as the more expensive stuff, I will not argue with that! 👍🏻
