I think the director you stated would do a great job, loved that Digimon movie and episode plus the girl who lept through time was great. I'd personally love to see what Anno would do with Gamera though. But we gotta get Godzilla vs Gamera one of these years too! XD

The only Mamoru Hosada film I've seen is Belle and while it wasn't perfect, there were moments where I genuinely felt the emotional weight of the story and characters.
So seeing a Gamera movie from him would be interesting
You've made me more interested in his works, thanks heaps!

I think Hideaki Anno should direct the next Gamera film. That way we can have the Holy Trinity of Shin Kaiju films, with Shin Ultraman coming soon.

Completely agree. If we give Anno enough resources, time and freedom then magic happens. Kinda wish he got a hold of Kong even though it will never happen.

I think a anime Gamera movie would be great! I’m also a Gamera fan and the Heisei series is one of the best kaiju movies out there. As much as I would love Gamera to be in the monsterverse, I can’t help but agree with you. He can do much better since you know how Hollywood can be sometimes. I would love to see Gamera again in some shape or form.

I already loved Anno’s work before, but I’ve recently checked out Hosoda on a whim, and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is one of my favorite movies now, I want to check out his other stuff and Higuchi’s and Anno’s work on Tokusatsu, since your channel has sparked my interest.

fun fact: Gamera was originally going be in king of the monsters ending alongside Anguirus. but that didn't happen since Toho didn't want their rival in a Godzilla movie.

These are actually really good points. I'd be down with a Gamera anime series or even a singular anime movie. At this point I'll take anything, be it live action, anime, manga or a game. All the other tokusatsu icons are making their comeback, so it's only fair that the turtle has his too. I hope the movie set that just became available makes enough money to get Kadokawa to do something with Gamera.

I love this video and all the details you found for making the case that Mamoru Hosoda could and should make the next Gamera film. I aboslutely believe he could do right by the Invincible turtle kaiju! though it is pretty depressing that something this wonderful probably won't happen. Not to metion I've been thinking that Gamera should make a comeback via anim for a while now and I even contemplated writing a fanfic around a notion like that for some time now.
I haven't seen any Mamoru Hosoda films as of this comment, but I loved his work on Digimon and I plan on getting Mirai for Christmas. My favourite Gamera film is a three-way tie between all three of the Heisei trilogy movies.

Based off of the recent events happening with those GAMERA COMPLETE COLLECTION BLU-RAY sets from Arrow Video ( they sold out of stock as fast as they hit release and I see them popping up on Ebay with prices pushing almost $400.00 for ONE!), I wonder if the studios are giving due attention to the current popularity of Gamera. BOTH Japanese AND American studios like Legendary Pictures.

Putting Gamera in an anime/animated setting would do the franchise some good. Gamera is a very versatile kaiju, and putting him in animation would be such a treat. Personally, I would prefer a 2D anime Gamera than a 3D anime Gamera. Mainly because, I see so much personality, beauty, color, and expression into traditional 2D animation, take for example that short Pokemon Movie with Nessa (Freaking Beautiful!) or Trigger's Promare (So much color and energy).
I'm not against 3D animation, but I'm sorry, The Godzilla Anime Trilogy just looks butt ugly. I would be more open for a 3D Gamera Anime if the animation style was akin to RWBY where it maintains the expression, energy, and beauty.
By the looks of things, I'd say Mamoru Hosoda is a pretty good choice for a Anime Gamera director.

You had me at Hosoda. Summer Wars is one of, if not, my favorite anime movie. So with that, and his overall style of visuals and story telling, he would be a DREAM COME TRUE pick in my personal opinion.

if Mamoru Hosoda would do a gamera anime film here are my thoughts on it :
I think that a gamera anime film should be a faithful anime adaptation of the Gamera vs barugon manga adaptation so here are my thoughts on it :
good kaiju redesigns for both gamera and barugon .
good monster fights that should be a perfect mix of human brawlnig, animalistic mauling and energy attacks that really captivates audiences.
use only 2d handrawn animation and that is all , cause you can put so much personality, beauty, color, and expression into traditional 2D animation.
    good Cinematography
    A good soundtrack.
i want it to be a daiei/kadakowa and Studio Chizu co production , and maybe a collabration with netflix as well.

I would’ve been all for Makoto Shinkai a year or so ago, but after seeing Weathering with You, I’d want to see another, better film before he took on Gamera. He’s been riffing on very similar themes for much of his career, and Your Name nailed it. Weathering with You tried to do it again and failed.
That said, the Gamera series has often featured some interesting out-of-the-way and rural settings, especially the four Heisei-era films. Shinkai rendered the small town of Itomori beautifully in Your Name, and I think his eye for detail in natural subjects could make for some incredible depictions of an idea like Mana.
His visual style is incredibly strong; even in his earlier films you could see him fighting like hell against his technical and budgetary limitations to realize an incredibly ambitious vision. He’d just need a better script than his last film.

Haven't watched the video yet but my initial thought is whoever is the main focus of direction with Ultraman Z or at least for SFX. It certainly is pushing for more dynamic angles and framing than Orb and Geed did. Two other Ultra shows I REALLY LIKE but have to admit that when it came to perspective and fight framing were a bit vanilla. Perhaps the team behind SSSS Gridman would be great too.

I don’t love guardian of the universe, but attack of legion and revenge of iris are certainly the best the genera has to offer outside of 54, shin, and possibly a couple of the golden age Godzilla films. I think an animated film would be a healthy step for the franchise. Admittedly it would be a shame to see the days of tokusatsu being left behind. On the bright side, maybe we’ll get some Kaiju waifu material.

The Gamera Heisei Trilogy was incredible, but I was SEVERELY disappointed with Gamera The Brave. If they're going to make a new Gamera film, it HAS to follow the tone set by that trailer that came out in 2015.
