    Heyyyyyy lovelies, I took your advice on mixing Alcohol with Mica and am sharing the results with you in this video. This is the last video in the current silk screen testing series and I am now finally able to move on to new things. I say this ha ha but this is the final silk screen testing. I am sure they will feature in my future.

    I am convinced some of the mica debris comes from it lifting from the spots it’s meant to be on (if that makes sense)- I ALWAYS get some that moves around during the cure time. But I love this technique! And the insects are everything right now for spring!! 🤗🥰🤗

    I’ve used silk screens and mica on silicone so much. I absolutely love it. I use a makeup applicator though. The sort of spongy kind - ya know? The applicator you would use to apply eyeshadow (not the brush). It works super well to control the dust. Also - I spritz alcohol on top of the silk screen first, then apply the mica with the applicator.

    Thank you for sharing this, Claire. I think you used a lot of mica powder for 2 molds. Even without counting the 2 redos. I wonder if mixing it with a water-based artists resin would work better than the alcohol. I do love your watching your videos because of your infectious laugh and humor. ❤❤❤

    We use silkscreens with ceramics and mix it with gum Arabic which burns off in the kiln as the glaze would seep under but not sure how it would finish if you use it in this scenario
    re sticky for the back of the screens we wash under warm water and pat dry and use a tiny drop of fairy on the back with your finger on then leave to dry and you get some sticky back😅

    Oh Claire!! This is wayyyyy too fidgety for me I would have given up when the paste didn't work! Think about when you removed the first perfect screen and the final screen where you had a bit of a mess around it, was their a time difference that could have caused the mess? Like was one completely dry and the other damp? I'll never do this but I'm curious what the cause was!! You're so great for attempting these things for everyone! We adore you!! Much love sweetie 🥰

    😊 Claire you silly wonderful girl. I do my Mica a little different. I use the bottom of my clear nail polish. And with a little alcohol that is where I put my Mica. It does not dry so quick, when putting it in a stencil. Putting it on a stamp. To go in resin. And then see. My Micah then waits for me in the bottle. A genie in the bottle.🧞. Baby. 😁🤭😂

    Claire did you tap out your molds after removing the silk screens? That might remove the excess mica, if not you could always paint around the image with black paint before top coating it - a lot of work but would probably save the coasters.

  • @Leena79
    @Leena79 3 месяца назад

    I was thinking you could cut these from vinyl just moments before you came to that conclusion. I think the bits of mica in the less successful beetle might just be some flakes, which migrated when you poured the resin. The mica is still a powder, and only the very bottom layer against the silicone mold stays put, and if the layer is just a little too thick, things will move. You can see some of the mica moved, since there is that golden spot on the surface of the cured resin. But they are still very beautiful, and maybe, slightly more organic than the perfect image vinyl would produce.
