- Finally I received the retail version of the Z590 DARK so I thought about doing an unboxing and quick overview with you guys of the motherboard. The Z590 DARK is rated among the highest end flagship motherboards on the Z590 line-up. Sadly it came out way too late, but still better late than never.
Buildzoid already covered the whole motherboard in his very extensive overview, like different parts of the PCB and the VRM so definitely check out his video of the motherboard: • mobo PCB Breakdown: EV...
EVGA went very crazy this time with the VRM/chipset heatsink combination. I absolutely love that copper and dark mixture, but the VRM heatsink is way too overkill considering the overall built quality of the board. As the VRM is very overbuilt considering the possible loads of the available CPUs the mosfets will never get hot with so massive copper heatsink, and yeah they did actually include two extra fans on the heatsink as well.
Otherwise the board looks very similar to its predecessors like the Z390 and Z490 DARK. Stay tuned until the end if you are considering to purchase this board and I will be uploading the BIOS overview and some overclocking techniques next!

I managed to get my Hands on one !
Once the fittings arrive this will be replacing my EVGA Z97 Classified.
I would say this is the best looking Z590 this year.
Awesome review again LUUMI on another amazing product from EVGA and finally got my elite membership from them
Took a while! Pretty looking board indeed. But no more socketed BIOS chip (). Kinda pointless to have x4 slot with open side with battery blocking installing x16 card in it :)
Agree with both!
Agreed. Dang I didn't even notice that...not sure what they were thinking and its TiN !!
Maybe the part that you don't get does make the board as xco good as it is
@@raoulvandervliet1652 xD do your research on people. OP is an ex EVGA dev engineer, who made Z390 Dark, which is the base of Z590 Dark too.
@@kovacspisyou're right, I should have. But I'm sure they had to place it there for reasons.
Been waiting for this, thank you. Have you ever thought about making an OS optimization video for benchmarking?
Great review! What do you think of z590 Unify-x in comparison to this board for b-die extreme over clocking?
Great video as always, important aspects all are covered - PS/2 combo ports, ASMedia SATA ports reason, VRM quality, Board features availability and price etc. Waiting for the BIOS overview, probably should be similar to Z490 DARK. This is my Z590 board of choice because ASUS Maximus Apex XIII has that new Realtek ALC4080 audio chip that is having nasty EMI problems and it doesn't have drivers for Windows 7 too, ALC1220 on this is fine for that OS. And next thing is this PCB is 8 layer (or 10 ?) while Apex is just 6 layer design. And finally the best part of the board is insane looking functional heavy copper heatsink. Longevity matters a lot. In the queue since day 1 but still no avail.
The copper does look great there. I’m a sucker for bare metals though. Been watching you x299 dark content lately since I just got one. Thanks for all the lessons learned 👍💪
My z390 Dark is by far the best mother board I’ve ever owned. I used to buy Classified or OC Formula boards. But I’m getting the Dark boards from now on, they’re so nice, easy to work with, and reliable.
X299 dark was the best board i ever owned, thing was built like a tank and was rock solid, 500+watts on a 7960x @ 4.8ghz 24/7 was hard to live with and went ryzen 5950x, Unfortunately this reminds me of that board, EVGA has built an epic board for a series of mediocre cpus, Im excited to see what they offer for am5/lga1700 but with TiN having left the team its hard to say what their new boards will look like from a engineering or timeline perspective.
I am a lot more interested in the X570 Dark, although that will be extremely late for X570.
Soon.
It will be probably used with the new 3D cache cpus by the end of the year, but yes, it's a little bit late for AM4.
X570 DARK board is literally just same of this they just changed the chipset, the I/O options do not change at all it's a bummer since AMD Ryzen 5000 has a ton of CPU USB ports, and one more con is they are using PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSDs for X570 too. Apart from that I'm interested in the X570 chipset stability with EVGA and that WHEA / USB thing. Really stoked for that but I wish EVGA keeps them not too expensive since the feature set is bare minimum vs others ofc the firmware quality is top notch with EVGA still they need to keep pricing in check. X570 builds are still worth because Intel screwed up 11th gen badly with bad IMC and poor efficiency / performance over 10th gen. And 12 gen is having that big little joke vs AMD's real core challenge with 3D Stack, so it's a welcome option for those who want more out of their processors. Esp its AMD where we cannot really push them.
@@lostalx I am not that pessimistic about 12th gen. I think it could be good, probably not as good as what AMD will have, but I think it has a chance to be a good enough product. And I like seeing Intel finally trying to innovate.
great video love dark boards best looking without a doubt , i wish the angled connectors were defacto on all boards for the cable management
I ended up getting a Z590 Dark, totally worth the money, great MOBO! I wish my 11900K was better though lol, this MOBO makes up for it.
this motherboard will go with my 1080ti kingpin very nicely!
Can you control EK RGB fans with the evga software using the rgb headers on the motherboard? Great video and coverage!
Thank you for the detailed review. Definitely one of the coolest looking motherboards on the market. Not sure why they went with only 2 dimms though because most boards in this price range have minimum of 4 dimm slots. Also wish they would include internal thunderbolt as well. If EVGA can get production rolling on their Z690 12th gen boards and add a few features than they can compete with Asus and Gigabyte very easily.
I frowned a bit at first look of this board, but now I must agree that this is one sexy board! They do need to figure out how to get the dark boards out earlier, this would have definitely been first choice... Might still go for it thougb😉
I always wondered what those long standoffs and the extra PCB were for 😆 and I never noticed the M.2 thermal pads, haven’t been using them.
19 november z690 launch, its time to release z690 dark
Still trying to get one! I missed my notify due to being on vacation outside cell service! EVGA is always out of stock whenever I contact them to reinstate my notify!
as much as i want this board or a Tachyon, it bothers me that 12th gen is just around the corner. had these motherboards come out at the same time 10th gen came out, i definitely wouldve owned one or the other by now but at this late point in the game, i just cant justify it.
this or the z590 apex? Any opinions here?

a big copper heatsink is rather good than bad. the high costs are an overall problem. I wouldn't pay more than 300€ for a highend mainboard like that. it seems manufacturers want to test how much their customers are willing to pay.
A big finned copper heatsink is very expensive to manufacture compared to an aluminium extrusion. And this board has extremely efficient and expensive powerstages that produce little heat. The motherboard could have been cheaper by at least 50€ if they used a cheap heatsink, and the temperature would still have been very good.
@@TheBackyardChemist wow 50 bucks less is still absurd...then I would prefer the nice copper...I think you missed my point. Its expensive beyond more or less 50bucks...doesn't matter anymore lol..they don't want to sell it seems.
That's like saying there is a cheaper way to build a Koenigsegg. These boards are to be the ultimate, i would pay an extra 50€ for copper heatsinks everyday, The X570 Dark has aluminum heatsinks on it possibly to reduce cost and due to the lower thermals on am4. Copper heatsinks have always keen a Kingpin/EVGA aesthetic signature.
@@Jolinator it shouldn't be build cheaper. EVGA is too greedy.
@@BratislavMetulskie Agree the price is too high for a Z Class board, one of the problems with the evga dark boards is they bring them out so late compared to other vendors which means they sell very little volume so have to wind up the price.
I agree that the heatsink maybe overkill, but I do love the look. I was expecting a similar z390 / z490 look, but was pleasantly surprised. I'd like to see this vs. the Asrock z590 OC Formula.
Yeah I like it too and trust me it has insane performance.
Really nice board, it would be a worthy upgrade to my Z490 Apex if 12th gen wasn't right around the corner.
I waited almost half a year for either this or the unify-x, but ended up just nabbing a Z490 dark for €300 and won't bother with rocket lake for now...
Z490 DARK is on sale. Im also thinking on that aspect because I have no use for NVMe that much and RKL is just a bad refresh. They could have released 10900K again with Gen 4 it would have been better. AMD has a the firmware quality and other QoL issues esp USB mess.
Where did you get it, are you located in Europe ?
Bought three Z-590 FTWs for my home and office. Never overclocked any beyond XMP. All three failed within a few weeks. Even an RMA Z-590 FTW board EVGA sent me on RMA failed. The Darks have been great. FTWs crap.
Very late? Not as late as the X570 chipset version, that's 2 years old. However like the Z590 it's a dead-end chipset, well at least the X570 has the next Ryzen 3D but this has nothing since Alder lake is totally different but that's going to be out in like 2-3 months time.
Sweet. Just playing with the z590 ocf. These boards are too pricey.
Been on the waiting list since "launch" I think imma sell my 10900kf and wait for 12th Gen. I've not even gotten to turn the cpu on, no 1200 socket mobo as I've been waiting for this board.

@@LuumiJuhani yes it is time 😀
It's never an overboard issue having good components, unless you make a new pc every year, or sells pcs. What a terrible take. It's so rare to have a real heat sink on motherboards these days, and you are saying that's a negative? wtf is wrong with you?
What we need is a Asus x Thermalright board, we definetly do not need an ugly Asus Noctua Graphics card.
👌.
I like it but the copper heat sinks really throw it off. Also 12th gen is looking really good.
🤤
I'm sure it's a good board I do like EVGA, I own a few of their products, always had good reliability, but imo this one here is just ugly. Not tryin to knock it, just being honest is all.
First!
