    I actually came back to this video to take notes because now I was one of these... I spoke with some of my buddies because we didn't want to do it unless we could logically solve the magazine loadout issue. We all just decided it makes sense to have everyone carry an extra two AR mags on the back of their kit for the auto-rifleman to grab and replenish his stock. Or for anyone to grab as needed if there is no auto-rifleman. We are all pretty comfortable with that new SOP so we're looking to get one.

    Over the years I had done the mental exercise of trying to come up with a solution to a civilian "MG" that is affordable, and I had no idea Red Right Hand existed. I came up with a solution, but it was mostly based on expendability. The idea that this weapon could be fired till it breaks, and then abandoned, and replaced with another cheap build kept on reserve. A lot of what Cody is saying sounds great, and it's making me stray away from the expendability approach and towards something more sustainable...
    I thought the best solution would be a cheap (yet dependable) AK build because you could "adapt" it easily and stockpile the ammo easily due to a low cost per round. Or an AR build with a thicker chrome-lined barrel and replacement barrels or upper receivers in reserve for a more sustainable solution.
    Cody has me thinking there's other options I hadn't considered.

    First saw these uppers years ago on admin’s channel and thought they were dope! Personally I really like the idea of everyone in a group running these. As civilians we don’t have 240’s but if everyone is running an “auto rifle” I think it doesn’t matter that we don’t have those MGs.

    One of the biggest concerns with the civilian auto-rifle (or even military mag-fed auto rifle) that people neglect till it's slapping them in the face is the drum magazine pouch issue... Carrying 50-75-100 round drums is not easy. There's very few pouches focused on that, and it's cumbersome, and can make it hard to lay in the prone. To really make this role possible we need some gear companies to solve that issue too.

    • @FocusTripp
      @FocusTripp  3 месяца назад

      As it gets more popular more companies will make gear for it.

    • @user-ul4rf8jp9f
      @user-ul4rf8jp9f 3 месяца назад

      @@CByers-lh3zq I wouldn't be opposed to some kind of custom drum magazine bandolier or satchel, because you're not dealing with any ammo belts so dealing with a shoulder strap wouldn't be asking too much of an experienced gunner.
      But I feel like the best solution is having an assistant gunner and/or ammo bearer, who can grab ammo out of his pack or your own. The only issue there is you run the risk of slowing down what would otherwise be a very quick-footed gunner by attaching another man to his hip. Also running the risk of immediately losing half your MG ammo if the AG goes down. So you'd need to work on SOPs to compensate for that. Especially if a 60rd drum means the AG needing to assist with reloads way more often than any normal AG would.

    • @ALovelyBunchOfDragonballz
      @ALovelyBunchOfDragonballz 17 дней назад

      Magpul D60s fit into fairly slim pouches and a belt kit could carry 4 without issue.
      Box magazines will still hold more round on kit than a drum, drums should likely be used as ambush responce and ambush instigation with box magazines as sustainment.

    Schmeisser (German AR manufacturer) also makes 60rd coffin mags which are about the same height as a 40rd magpul (downside, I know) and about the same width as the Quattros. Polenar Tactical has reviewed them and found them to be reasonably reliable, if extremely painful to reload. I've found they carry very well in the British PLCE belt kit- can fit 1 coffin and 1 regular mag per pouch (or 3 regular mags). Because it is a belt pouch system, your front is kept clearer for going lower into prone. Additionally- the gen2 Schmeisser's have windows to indicate rounds remaining for admin purposes and cost less than half the MagPul D60 Drum. But, YMMV and you might just find them to be too tall.

  • @user-ul4rf8jp9f
    @user-ul4rf8jp9f 3 месяца назад +1

    Has anyone given any thought to the belt-fed uppers for ARs?... Obviously the issue would be the lack of full-auto (which can be worked around with binary triggers or if forced-reset becomes a thing again) but also the lack of links for belt-fed ammo. But it seems like a good solution to the magazine capacity issue.

      @user-ul4rf8jp9f 3 месяца назад

      @@FocusTripp They are compared to what was discussed in this video, for sure. But compared to an actual M249 variant, they're very inexpensive. So the question becomes just how much money does your group have, and can you "adapt" them if needed? Because I can tell you from experience, a mag-fed squad automatic weapon is insufficient for prolonged engagements. It's more of a skirmisher's automatic rifle. If you can move on the enemy quickly, fine. Otherwise a weapon like the RPK is primarily used for suppression while breaking contact.
