      Have you done a video on adjusting the intake and exhaust valves yet?

    Has anyone put grease nipples on the head sten and swinging arm...or linkages...

    You make it look like an easy diy. What grease can I use for these bearings?

    A couple of years ago I rebuilt my (low mileage) 96. I'd recommend giving the suspension bushes the same treatment because they were just as dry as the head bearings. I think that in the Suzuki factory just install the bearings "as supplied" with no real additional grease applied, which from a logistics sense is understandable because packing bearings is messy and time consuming. The guys on the production line are against the clock. One thing I would really recommend is taking out the longer engine bolts and greasing those, as they will corrode into the engine cases and frame over time. Best wishes from the UK.....where we would describe those bearings as "Dry as a Nun's clunge" ;-)

      Nice. Good point. The front engine mount bolt was dry when I installed the bash plate. Might need to check the other.

    What bike stand do you use? Everything affordable I find on scamazon has a lift weight well below the DR650. But yours seems smaller. Has it worked well?

    • @NzJohny
      @NzJohny  2 года назад

      Hey mate. Mine is a drc one I cut down to get under the lower ground clearance of the Dr. It's rated below the dr weight but never had an issue

    Keep em coming mate. I'm picking up my DR next week 👍🏻
    I've been looking at those clym(?) Manuals.. would you recommend ?
    Looking forward to putting some of your tips into practice. Cheers mate.

      Good stuff mate. I know of clym manuals and heard good things. I usually just go for it and try reverse what I took off remembering how tight things are. I guess 1 bonus is that I record everything on camera so it makes it easier putting it back together. But the clym manual sounds like a good idea :)

    Hi

      Hey mate. I'm in Christchurch nz. The lift / stand was from trademe. Maybe 2013 ish when I bought it. I got it for my kx125 and it does have a 160kg weight limit. I have cut and re welded it to fit under the dr650 "less ground clearance" works well. Thanks for watching :)

    Fairly anorexic on the grease. I have a random question. I just put an Acerbis tank on my DR. Do you have a right side petcock on yours? I went ahead and installed one on mine, just in case I ran out of fuel, but still had some on the right side. I figured it would keep me from having to lay my bike over to get fuel, while it was loaded down.

    • @NzJohny
      @NzJohny  4 года назад

      That's a thought I have been pondering! I have ran my bike out of fuel and leaned it over with the 5.3 Acerbis and got an extra 1.5 litres / half gallon or so from it. May consider the right petcock

      @@NzJohny I had difficulty finding fuel line protection (that spring over the fuel line). I finally got some, but not on any motorcycle store or web site. I ran the protection from the right side all the way to the carburetor. Protecting that fuel line from chaffing and kinking is a must (especially chaffing). I ran my crossover line from the right side around the rear of the carburetor to prevent heat damage. I also added in-line fuel filters on each petcock. Overkill? Maybe, but it's a new tank, and even with a thorough pre-rinse with fuel, there's still "stuff" that will work its way out over time. The reason I originally asked was to compare notes, so to speak.
