I put mine in my sunroom by the door and the ants came in and harvested all the bugs! Once the bugs were gone so were the ants. It was amazing actually! Plant is doing well now :)
Just wanna say Thank you for all of the videos. I started the Orchid hobby last year and your videos really helps a lot, now your videos are some short of Netflix series for me ☺️☺️
If they are at least a bit similar to the scale/mealy bugs I once encountered on my trees, spraying the alcohol would actually kill only the adults. The cocoons or egg shells whatever they're called officially have to usually be removed mechanically or apply the spray once they burst. Cause the shell protects them from alcohol. Hydrogen peroxide disolves the shells, but alcohol doesn't work in my experience. Just throwing it out there if someone has repeated problems with these that it might be due to not removing the cocoons/egg shells mechanically and younglings bursting into life at later date.
Using an old soft bristle toothbrush soaked with the alcohol enables you to get deeper into the joints and connections without doing much damage if any to the plant. This will help scrub away the scale, eggs, etc.
Hello from Florida, USA! I was wondering if you had an updated video about quarantining new orchids and what to look out for before you add them to your existing collection. Thanks you!
I used your oil solution on my scale about a month ago - before you made this vid and it worked just fine - once dead, the cocoons were easy to just scrape off with my fingernail. Thanks for this :-) Not having quite so much success with it on the red spider mites though. I had to do what you said not to do and treat it 3 times about a month apart. This 3rd time though, i think it has finally worked - no new grazing appearing... fingers crossed!! It does work though.
Thank you! This was a very interesting video, and I specially liked to see how effective alcohol is in removing all the scale completely. Do you have an update on this plant? Did the scale disappear completely after the treatment? I have read that it is so hard to eradicate.
Thanks Danny again your videos are life savings I thought I was dealing with maelybugs but now I know what the problem is and how to solve it... so far I have 8 cattleyas infected and Im sure there are more 😔
I just found scale for the first time, on my pilea, hints my looking through all the videos I can. Do you have any tips or something you've found that works?
Omg i could have used this video a year ago. I bought a cheap casttleya that didnt have blooms so it was discounted. When i chose it i saw it had these scales and thought id clean it up and repot it and it should be fine. oh boy. Over the course of 9 months i had to repot it several times, cleaned it with isopropyl 3% water, then tried soapy water, then tried plain water cause i was afraid the isopropyl water would burn the canes and the roots it touched (which were non existant tbh). And it slowly went from a big plant to one or two canes until it finally died. Oh well. I bought another cattleya recently. REALLY checked it had no scale this time.
Thank you for this video. Perfect timing!!! Yesterday I got a phal n spike from a orchid guild member. When I got it home I realized it has scale 😬!!! I haven't dealt with scale before, so this helps tons!!!
Terrible scales! I have an infectation of them in my orchid collection and Ive been trying to get rid of them for months! Every time I check I find more
Danny from my outdoor gardening experience i would like to share . Please check the near by orchids these hides very smartly. Its very easy to get rid off with the right solution. Humidity and spring time favour them.
Hey! Could you make some tutorials about your other orchids and how do you choose to grow them? Like coelogyne, maxillarias, masdevalias etc. BTW nice video and great tips! Keep up the good work!
Hi, how the treatment work for this scale infestation? Did it work in the long run? Also, should I treat the same way brown scale? Thank you very much!
I hand wash first soil out of pots, then put on top rack of dishwasher. Yes, careful as to type of plastic since light weight will crinkle. Sometimes after washing I spray alcohol or hydrogen peroxide.
I just received a phalaenopsis orchid still in sphagnum moss that is done blooming. I'd like to repot it into better medium but I'm wondering if it's ok to repot right now in January or if I should wait until the weather gets warmer. I'm in Southern California, so our winter is not that cold. Any advice?
Hey Dani, I just noticed scale on one of my orchids but don't have any isopropyl alcohol at home, I was wondering if you know if I can use Dettol as an alternative? I googled it but couldn't really find anything useful... :)
Imagine.... You're alone at home. Sleeping in your bedroom cozily.... And in the middle of the night, two confused wedding birds come near bedroom window and do those noises....
Molto interesante,ma non conosco bene la lingua e quindi forse ho capito male:se c'è l'insetto devo svasare tutte le piante? Ho trenta orchidee, non c'è un metodo più veloce?Se può rispondermi in italiano le sarei molto grata!Grazie e saluti, saluti!😊
Just updating this video with my experience on Scale & Spidermites on our whole collection of orchids: it worked 🥹😭😻😻😻😻😻 We’ve been struggling with these terrible parasites for years with no natural approach helping. The hairspray seems to work wonders! I showered the orchids. Let them dry & applied the hairspray. Let it sit for 15-20 days and MIRACLE!!! The die off was instant and effective. Also, it feels like the orchids took a huge boost, lots of new leaves and sprouts pierces through. I’ve never seen our orchids so healthy and happy! Brilliant idea!! THANK YOUUUUU @missorchidgirl 💐🎉🩷🩷🩷
Hey everyone,. If you're around NYC in the states the North New Jersey Orchid Society is having their show thru Jan 14. Deep cut orchid society between Feb 6 thru 9th and SEPOS -Southeastern Pennsylvania Orchid Society in early April. Probably find best choices of orchids in the NYC area. Thank you Danny for methodology to scale elimination. Hope to see follow up and bloom to your little guys
They are insects, if you buy an infested plant they can spread (I learned this the hard way, almost all my plants are infested. It has absolutely no connection with watering (except maybe If you share water from an infested plants)
I recently lost my Syngonium wendlandii to scale😥...i hope Your's survives....oh and when you said "Joey and Maya love each other" i devised that maybe you have lesbian doves! How cool is that?😍🤗
Hi, you could dillute it with distilled water until 3% or close to it. For the 10% you would roughly use 2 parts water 1 part hp 10%, it will be just a bit over 3%, but it should be ok. Always try it first on one orchid (or one or two roots), before using it with more orchids. Always good to test everything first on as few orchids as possible ☺️

Thanks Danni,
This is a re-watch for me which is needed at the moment! Great tips. Much appreciated. Hello also to your lovely birds. 🐦🐦
Your videos are very educational and easy to understand. You demonstrate so well. Thank you very much.

Could we get updates on this please, I feel like scale is a constant battle for me and I'd like to know how long it took you to get rid of it all

Hi Gabriel Perez, went through most of what you described. My too die after long battle ):
It's clear Joey and Maya are an adorable bonded pair! Nice you don't have to worry about babies haha.
Hope the orchid recovers soon!

This is the first video I see and I really love how you explain everything step by step. Subscribed and liked. Love to see more 💗
I had scale on my dendrobium and used your spidermite treatment with the paraffin oil and it worked!
Great information. Look forward to the updates on this process 😍

Very interesting! Keep us updated!

And you can also put your pots in the dishwasher. I do this all the time with plastic and my clay pots. :)
Careful what temperature you set on your dishwasher with plastic pots everyone, just use the lowest setting! ☺️

Please explain about your oil solution. Thanks.
Very interesting - thank you for sharing
Thanks for sharing ❤️🌿
Can you use this method to get rid of scale on paphiopedilum and phalaenopsis orchids as well?
Wow you’re a true lesbian bird ally💞🏳️🌈
So helpful I have 2 cattleyas that have scale 😭
Hi Dany! What about thrips, have you ever had problems with those? If so, how do you get rid of them?
Hey Dani, I just noticed scale on one of my orchids but don't have any isopropyl alcohol at home, I was wondering if you know if I can use Dettol as an alternative? I googled it but couldn't really find anything useful... :)
I have Isopropyl Alcohol but it is 99%, should I dilute it at all before using if I ever need to?
Imagine....
You're alone at home. Sleeping in your bedroom cozily.... And in the middle of the night, two confused wedding birds come near bedroom window and do those noises....
How to mix the oily solution please?

I heard that mealy bugs are a type of scale bugs.
Great info!!
I found one of these infested orchids at Walmart while looking for one to buy turns out every single orchid all except for one was infested
Are scales due to overwatering or under watering?? What is the major issues that causes them in the first place?
They are insects, if you buy an infested plant they can spread (I learned this the hard way, almost all my plants are infested. It has absolutely no connection with watering (except maybe If you share water from an infested plants)

Hi, we don't have 3% hydrogen peroxide here, what we have is 10% and 30%, what shall I do with it. What shall I use and do. Thank you.

Can peroxide kill them ? Or only alcohol ?
Hi, alcohol can, peroxide I don't know, I just hope ☺️
Rubbing alcohol
