I do like how you made an effort to bring the stitch over to the seam with a hand stitch (I do that too, because I find it to be more precise than just winging it with a sewing machine and chalk). Sometimes I like to not cut, but just leave the hand stitching, too, because (knowing me) my weight fluctuates, and it leaves me the chance to take it back out again if I ever need to. Nice video!!
When I'm buying maxi dress, I always prefer empire dress or any highwaisted dress since my turso is longer than my legs. I just got my XL dress yesterday from shopee and I found the upper part a little bit loose. Now, I have an idea how to make it fit near my armpit.Tgannks for the tips.
If the material is stretch knit it will work and if you want to reshape the bodice you may have to take in the skirt waist a bit to match the altered bodice.

Thanks so much Im losing weight quite fast and I dont want to spend money on buying too many new clothes lol so this. I need and i dont know how to sew which i wish i did... I have 3 kids under 4 so its hard to find the time really 😭😭😭 Thankssss
Congratulations dear and I’m glad to hear that find this helpful. I completely understand with having little ones. It’s hard to find time to take a shower let alone find time to sew. Hang in there momma! You can alter one garment at a time when they are sleeping.

@@sewaldodiy Good idea. I also thought about replacing the skinny straps for something thicker. You can look up the dress on walmart website. It is this tiered, long navy blue Sofia Vergara dress, that has also tie on the back. It is a beautifull dress in person, but the straps that hurt your neck are a design flaw, probably mostly because the whole dress is hanging on your neck. It is true to your shirt size. Thank you for replying so fast.
A stretch stitch is like a zigzag stitch but narrower. It allows the fabric to stretch. Look for a symbol in your sewing machine if you have one that looks like a lightning bolt.
Such a smart way to lift the waist line. I am petite and higher waist line always looks better on me. I am going to try this tip. Thank you!
I’m glad you like the idea and yes us petite ladies looks fabulous in high waisted!
I’m a beginner, but I’m going to try to make a size 14 into a size 8.
Good luck dear and you can do it!

Beautiful work. Thank you. Why do you cut off waist selvage? Seems like a good stitched finish.
It's just to get rid of the excess fabric but it is optional you don't have to trim it off. By the way, how are you today?
Ok. Think I'll save waist stitching as is so loose cotton weave doesn't fray

Would this work on a dress that doesn't have a fitted bodice? Or do I need to do something different?
If the material is stretch knit it will work and if you want to reshape the bodice you may have to take in the skirt waist a bit to match the altered bodice.
Don't cut if its less cloth if u put on weight u can use it too.
Yes that is a great idea!
Thanks for this tutorial
You're welcome 😊
How do you know how much to take it in? I went from a 16 to a 4/6/8 or an 11 in juniors. I don’t know how much to take off
Try on the garment to see how much you need to take in from the sides.

Nice video! What do you call the marker/ruler that you used to draw the line on the fabric?
I just used a regular writing pencil but you can use washable crayons and markers too.

Will the hand stitches hold through washing cycles?
No unfortunately but you can reinforced it by sewing a few rows to make the stitches durable.

You can do it as long as the zipper is at the back. Try on the dress wrong side out then pin along the sides to fit.
💕💕💕
❤❤❤
can i do it without sewing machine?
Yes just reinforce the stitches to make it stronger. I like to go over it twice if I hand stitch it.

Hi
How to reduce too big armhole only.
For sleeveless midi .
I have a tutorial for that and you can watch it here ruclips.net/user/shortsj2h6T5dU0ys?feature=share
I bought a beautifull dress but the neck ties are just like strings and they hurt my neck, I wonder how can I fix it, any ideas?
Is it like a halter top that ties at the back of the neck or a spaghetti straps?
@@sewaldodiy those are thin spagetti straps tied behind your neck, the width of maybe a shoe lace.
@@babycakes8434 You can try to sew it at the back of the dress like a normal spaghetti strap dress instead of tying it behind your neck.

What tool are you using to measure to taper?
I just used my french curve ruler but you can use any ruler.
What is a stretch stitch?
A stretch stitch is like a zigzag stitch but narrower. It allows the fabric to stretch. Look for a symbol in your sewing machine if you have one that looks like a lightning bolt.
Is this okay to do on a silk dress ?
Yes it might work if the zip is at the back just be aware of that and this dress that I altered is a stretchy material.
Would this work on velvet-y material?
Yes as long as it is stretchy material it should work.
@@sewaldodiy thanks!!!!
