    "If you were one of the lucky winners that actually was able to get one of these, I feel sorry for you."
    As a traverse owner I really felt that.

    Thank you for the video. I really enjoyed the commentary on the 2011 traverse as it's all true. You are right about the weather. My wife has one too and it seems like bulbs go out a bit more frequently than that on my kids 2006 Impala and my 2010 Altima. Ironically, they all use the same bulb. Way easier on the Altima and the Impala. Even though I've done it a bunch of times, I always like to watch a refresher. I've also had the (mis)fortune of doing this job in the Michigan winter. Fortunately, this time it went out just before the real cold hits. Couple of suggestions. I recommend putting on a latex or similar glove.when handling the new bulb. If you can prevent oils from getting on the bulb, it helps extend the life.with the heat. Also, the first time I did this, I realized that it's nice to wedge something in there to keep the fender liner pulled apart. I found an old wedge style kids plastic bicycle helmet in my garage. It's the perfect size to hold the liner far enough so that even I can get my fat arms in there. My kids have long outgrown the helmet but I won't get rid of it as I always use it.to change bulbs in the traverse. While taking the bulb out one handed is easy, putting in the new one with 1 hand is tough. I use both and the helmet helps with creating the needed gap

      Yeah who ever designed this definitely was not thinking of a buyer, and more of a garage repair to rip people off . It’s really crazy how many of these cars you see on the road with a light burnt out . This should have fallen under a safety recall . We now use our car for a spare , the only reasons we kept it instead of trading it in on our Honda odyssey , is it’s good in the snow with all wheel drive and can haul 8 people. Oh these cars don’t hold a good resale value, so you totally loose your butt on them .

      @@Starkeyfamilyfixing yikes! I personally check all fluids every few fill ups and every spring/fall our overflow needs to be topped up, which reminds me i am going to check that overflow and fill it up now that its below freezing at night here, Unfortunately ours Might need a transmission at some point, hoping not but the torque converter shuddering that only used to happen with cruise on now it now does without cruise, also We only avg 15 mpg even at highway speeds like 45-75 mph.

    • @Starkeyfamilyfixing
      @Starkeyfamilyfixing  8 месяцев назад

      @ryanravencaller yeah the dealership lied to me when I bought the car , I asked and then they said 23 mpg , mine gets 15 also . My mom had bought a 2012 model new so one year after mine same thing . Both are awd . As for the transmission have you changed the fluid ? And if not I would start there . But it’s not uncommon for the torque converter to go bad in these cars too. Changing the fluid may help this , I know you hear people say not to change the transmission fluid or your transmission will go out , well the truth is if you don’t change it , it definitely will after you rack up the miles . That’s something I always stay on top of . But I will tell you I would never use any cleaner in the transmission nor go to an oil change place in less they are willing to put the factory fluid back in . These places sell what is called universal transmission fluid that they say works in everything. This is total crap absolutely do not use this stuff , absolutely do not use any aftermarket brands , even if you don’t want to do it yourself, go to the dealership and ask what belongs in your car . You can buy it from them or order it in on Amazon. In your case it’s going to be an AC Delco brand. And which ever part number your car takes . There are some things that you want to make sure you stay on track about and this is one of them . But in saying that if your car has high miles on it and it’s never been changed, after changing a bunch of nastiness will break free as the new fluid cleans everything. So after changing it give it a 5000 miles of driving and change it again . Then your good to go . And if you fine the torque converter is bad you would need to change the fluid anyway when changing this out. Now you really want to go to a play that knows there stuff because electrical parts in the transmission could cause the transmission to not function properly also . Unfortunately in this case I would go to a dealership to get the problem properly diagnosed, they have the computer software, some transmission places may or may not . You definitely need to find a reputable garage that deals solely with transmissions and does a lot of them this is your best bet . A dealership can look across the board and say hey this happened a lot on your model year and we already know the problem. The key is talking to several places first and see what the common answer is that keeps popping up . Let me know what you find . As for my car I have it put on the back burner, because of the miles on it , it would be cheaper for me to just buy a crate engine then rebuild it . Yes it’s just a head gasket, but everything else is wore in the engine too . But buying a crate engine is cheaper the buying another care , and this one everything is still in great shape. This will be a spare vehicle for me .

      Ken Peterson I just had another light blow on the passenger side once again . This is a factory defect . I own a semi truck and am on the road every day . If you saw as many of these missing a burning headlight as me , you would feel the same way . It’s not just the Chevy version , it’s all of them GM put out . I just had to have the a-arm rubber bushings replaced also , another factory defect. It was eating tire up bad . I hate this car , but at the same time , after we bought this and then figured out these cars are crap , we tried to sale it and trade it in . These cars have no resale value at all . The resale value was much much lower then what we owned on it . So we have had to keep it . Even the car lots said nobody wants them after they buy them. So the market is flooded with these junk vehicles.

      Lol 😂 I use a paper towel , and yes I do realize the oils from your hands will over heat and burn the bulb out sooner . But you should pay attention to GM products you pass on the road. These and pickup trucks from GM , you will notice a lot of them with burnt out lights . More then normal.

  • @Starkeyfamilyfixing

    Sometimes if the bulb is just not making good enough contact you can tap the lens on the outside a little hard and it will start working again , but most of the time , the bulb is just cooked . So wait.
    Let me see if I understand this correctly...
    You're complaining about how tight this job is; but you're not jacking the vehicle up or removing the tire?
    I find your logic fascinating.
    Trying to do something the half-A'ed easy way, is rarely ever "easy" or "correct".
    Funny.
    I watched a guy (who lives not far from me) install a security camera and was fighting to install it near a downspout.
    He went out and bought three additional tools to complete this job, when he could have simply remove the downspout.

    • @Starkeyfamilyfixing
      @Starkeyfamilyfixing  4 года назад +1

      DeadmaN 2112 well the logic in the video I General Motors making this into an unnecessary stupid project in replacing a light bulb . Being that I did not remove the wheel does not make it better. On most vehicles you raise the hood , unscrew the build , and replace it , very simple . Taking a wheel off to replace a light bulb , completely stupid, as is removing the inner fender well . So yes I am complaining, due to how stupid of a job it is to replace a bulb , and considering how often then burn out , that is all the lights on the vehicle have burned out no matter the brand of bulb , and after looking up this problem and seeing that most people have a lot of problems with these poorly built vehicles, I have a right to complain.

      Well I'm not going to sit here and try to explain how removing the tire would have made your job about a thousand times easier.
      However I will point out that you also mentioned that these headlights go out quite often on you.
      I'm not sure if you're aware of this but, compact halogens are never supposed to be touched with fingers that aren't in latex.
      ...and no, it's not because they are dangerous.

    • @Starkeyfamilyfixing
      @Starkeyfamilyfixing  4 года назад

      DeadmaN 2112 anyone knows you never touch a bulb 💡, the oils off your skin will cause it to overheat . And yes taking the wheel off will give you more room , but will also add more work to do . And you have to keep in mind some people watching my how to videos , are not comfortable, doing mechanical work , even taking a wheel off , some may not own a jack and/or jack stands . Ect .

    • @Starkeyfamilyfixing

      DeadmaN 2112 , yes exactly. It would not be time efficient to take the tire off . Taking the easy way every time , does not mean it’s the best way . If somebody were to take their car to a dealership for the same job , the dealership may go with your plan to charge the customer more , if someone brought the car to me , I would treat the person with respect, and not rip them off . Doing mechanical work is not always an easy job , yes some things that must be done are simple , others are overwhelming at time . But doing a job on my own vehicle, I want done right and done in a timely manner.
