In 1988, Metropolis was my first musical I ever saw. Visitig London we were invited to the show in the Apollo? oder Palace ? Theatre. From this day, musicals are my favorite kind of preformance. Thank you for posting.
+COMSUBEAST Hi. The musical ran at the Piccadilly Theatre in London in 1989. You can find more and link with some of the original London cast - Search Metropolis the Musical on Facebook.
I've never ever posted something to a clip on RUclips, but I had to this time. This brings back so many wonderful memories. I saw the Judy Kuhn/Brian Blessed/Graham Bickley production in London in the late 80s (was it '89?) and fell in love. We actually went to London to see Les Miserables, but had an extra evening to fill. Someone recommended this one and so we went. Though I loved Les Miserables I think this one stole my heart. Mostly because it was such a surprise. I knew the songs of Les Mis by heart already, this one I'd never heard of. What an amazing production it was. Judy was amazing, simply amazing. Immediately bought the record and played it and played it till I knew every single note by heart. What a treasure to find another production on RUclips. I see there are more, so I'll check those out as well. For now I'm still enjoying this one. Job well done here!
I loved it loads too, Brian Blessed was a bit screechy tho...sometimes when i've been trapped in work for a week i come out of the office singing The sun never shines
I sat on the left side, approx 2nd or 3rd row and reviewed it for The Prospector. It was a wonderful wonderful production. Class act. Greg Taylor is a genius.
Oh, also, I got to meet Joseph Brooks during the break courtesy of the Dinner Theatre and got to talk to him for a few minutes. Little did we know what he turned out to be of course.
Finally I get to seeth with mine own eyes. Ive have had the olc *jay records* for 15+ years. Thanks for posting it. Unfortunately America has not recieved alot of the popular british musicals because its too expensive or there are haters. I still want to see Stephen Ward.
it was also done in 1993-1994 I think in San Diego at UCSD and directed by William Virchis at Southwestern College... I was one of the children in the San Diego Performance and we got to go to the American College Theater Festival where I and the other children were awarded an award of recognition by the ACTF Board... This was a big part of my life. I'm constantly singing to this day "I Believe in The Bible" and "The Sun Never Shines"
Wow! That was fast! I look forward to watching your Metropolis VERY much!!! Give me a few days I am swamped with doctors appointments the next few days. Thank you for the kind word regarding my health. I am sorry you have been off of work since July. I hope your health improves soon. Thank you again for the uploads. I can hardly wait!
I was in the reboot test of this production in 2002 at Pentacle Theatre in Salem, OR before it was to be taken to New York. I was "George!" I really need to figure out how to upload our show. All I have managed is my rendition of, "The Sun." Thank you for sharing this!
Hi! Maria is being played by a very talented actress named Cristen Susong. Steven is being played by Scott Susong, her husband, George (11811) is being played by Frank Montes de Oca III and John Freeman is being played by Gregory L Taylor, the Director of the UTEP Dinner Theatre and the Director and Producer of the show. I hope you enjoyed ACT I and will watch Act II! Thank you for watching!!! :)
Wow, When VW sponsored Music Active, I acted in the South African play! I sang the song: "The Machines are beautiful". I was John Freeman, oh what an experience.
Hi, Sorry for the late reply. I have been very sick and off of the computer. I have a copy of the 1990 UTEP Dinner Theatre production. The video is in pretty bad shape so I only posted a few numbers from it on RUclips. I would like to get the 2012 Metropolis. If I do get it, I will post a copy here on RUclips for you to see. You are welcome for the posting. It was my pleasure.
Thanks for posting this, Chris. I found the OCR on tape in a charity which is how I found out about this musical. I do rather like 101.11 and the Machines are Beautiful.
Hi Cassie. I am VERY interested in seeing your version! I LOVE Metropolis and would VERY much enjoy seeing yours. I would really appreciate you letting me know when you have posted yours. That would be great! Thank you so much!
I still despise how the brilliant, mad, tragic Rotwang was changed into a mousy, unremarkable nothing like Warner, and I have a few other gripes with this show, but on the whole it is amazing, and the music is fantastic. And Futura is absolutely beautiful as designed here!
+MaskedMan66 I agree with you. The robot from this theater has a better design than the robot from the 93's Eastlight Theatre. And the characters are better represented
Oh my gosh... will look up the numbers this afternoon. Hope you can get the latest production too! If you are interested, be looking for OUR version. I'm putting it up sometime this week. Just got permission and access to the film footage thanks to another (professional) cast member, Percy Littleton (Jon Freeman). I just copied the VHS tapes onto DVD and will upload them soon. Will let you know when I do.
Oh my gosh! You made my day! I am a Metropolis nut... I was in a 1993 production in Illinois when I was 7... I search for every theater that has ever done a production and beg for copies of the show... Thank you! Do you have copies of the other productions done at the dinner theater?
So sorry for the late reply. I have been very ill and off of RUclips, email and my computer for months. I must congratulate you on you performance in the London production of METROPOLIS. I have a bootleg video of the production and it is a cherished possession of mine. I absolutely LOVE the show. Is it just me or was the ensemble of the show extremely tight in your production? It come across as almost an ensemble piece. Good job dear sir!
Chris, Alright, they are posted! Check under my name or Eastlight Theatre's Metropolis for the links. For some reason RUclips doesn't want them here. Be sure to read the comments that go with each one... gives a little information about changes that were made, actors, quirky details, etc. :) Hope your health continues to improve .I understand. My own health has kept me from work since July. Enjoy our Metropolis! I hope to see El Paso's latest endeavor!

That is so awesome!! Do you have any recordings of it?!?
Your voice alone made me want to join the UTEP dinner theatre, the next season. I have loved your voice ever since Chris! =)
Love this part at 45:40 with the Robot!
A new production of Metropolis was performed at Ye Old Rose and Crown in Walthamstow. The kids were replaced with puppets.

Did Freeman flub or did they reshuffle the lyrics of "The Machines are Beautiful?"
Is there as video of Brook's 2005 Broadway flop, "In my LIfe?"
Who did you talk to get the rights?
I am very interested in how you did this.
