Wonderful, silent acting from great actors and brilliantly defined characters. Of course, they were only 2 or 3 years out of silent movies so they understood what could be communicated without dialogue and knew the techniques to achieve it.

If Jesus had been executed some 1,800 years later, van Helsing would indeed have pulled a gun. Or a guillotine if Jesus had died in France. Strange religion, which chooses execution equipment as symbol… Full sympathy with Lugosi running away, I did the same some 20 years ago.
@@jensrudat4630 Strange? I’d say inspiring. They put Him on a cross to humiliate Him, but He reversed it to become the symbol of His triumph over death, essentially saying to them “Is that (crucifixion) the best you can do?”
@@jensrudat4630 Well, more fool you, then. The cross represents Jesus's self-sacrifice and resurrection, the overcoming of death. "No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord." Jesus said. Jesus's blood and resurrection, meant we could all live eternally, as the Lamb of God, left His throne in heaven, to gather His flock home.
@@Grandmaster_Dragonborn Don’t get me wrong: I admire Jesus’ words and deeds, but I clearly despise what became of that in the two millenniums afterwards. e.g. the origins of the cross certainly derive from the Christogram “Chi Rho” (XP), but what church made of it is a perversion to me (see below). JESUS SPOKE OF LOVE, NOT PAIN AND SUFFERING - the latter being brought to the unbelievers over centuries in the name of god and under the sign of the cross. Referring to your answer: 1. As delivered by Evangelists Matthew and Mark, Jesus did not say anything like “Is that (crucifixion) the best you can do?” but instead “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”. Does not sound truly enthusiastic. 2. It was not Jesus who chose the cross as the symbol for Christian religion but Emperor Constantine the Great some 300y after Jesus’ death. He secured his power by supporting Christianity as the unstoppable movement of this time, which can be seen as the beginning of the exploitation of Jesus’ ideas and ideals. 3. If, however Jesus had died when executions were performed by shooting, today’s Christians including childish Sunday school pupils would go out with a rifle necklet. Definitely strange at least, just look up the Hezbollah flag. So, I stand close on Dracula’s side when I see people holding a cross: Hiding is the politest I can do. Best regards!
@@jensrudat4630 You’ve said a lot. Let’s break this down simpler. The most important thing is at the end so bear with this! *Despise what became of what Jesus Taught:* There’s a lot you could be talking about. If you mean something like the Salem Witch Trees, that would be a distortion Jesus’ teachings. If you just mean born again believers spreading what He taught, that’s odd, because everything they preach is either exactly what Jesus said or based on it, for example, telling homosexuals about their need to repent out of love for them. This is what Jesus commands us to do *(Mark 16:15).* If you have a problem with that, you logically have a problem with Jesus, because it’s all His word, just spoken by others. *”Jesus Didn’t Speak of Pain and Suffering”* This is incorrect. Jesus spoke plenty of pain and suffering. Jesus correctly predicted how being His follower means having to take up one’s cross *(Matthew 16:24)* which in those days literally represented death, His followers would suffer for Him *(Luke 21:14),* how unbelievers will suffer in Hell *(Luke 13:3-5)* and reminded His followers to take heart and remember Him when they inevitably suffer for Him *(John 16:33).* Pain and suffering are real, and God’s word is not shy about it. *”Is that the best you can do?”* It’s true Jesus didn’t say those exact words, but something doesn’t have to be explicitly said to be communicated. This is what Muslims don’t understand when talking about Jesus’ divinity (or lack of it as they believe). Jesus willingly went on the cross and overcame death - which the cross represented - and now it’s His symbol, effectively saying “Your best didn’t work.” *”Constantine”* Even if what you said about Constantine is true - and there are many myths about him - it doesn’t change anything. God knew what the cross represented to people and that it would become the symbol of His salvation. *”Jesus executed today”* Like I said: the reason the cross is the symbol is because in those days, it represented death, and Jesus overcame it, which makes turning it into His symbol is so good. If He was crucified today, I imagine His symbol would be something like a skull flipped upside down, since a skull represents death nowadays, but that’s just my opinion, it probably wouldn’t be a gun, because that’s just one image of death of the many today. Either way it doesn’t matter, the cross is what we got. *THE MOST IMPORTANT THING:* Can I implore you? Don’t hide from the cross, run towards it, understand what Jesus did on it for you, and accept His gift of salvation. You have everything to gain *(John 3:16).* He loves you. ✝️
Even if you feel unreligious, keep your mind open. Evil exists, but God loved you so much that he sent his Son to destroy sin and open Heaven to you. Until we meet there, peace be with you.
