    If I look at the video it reminds me of playing this game for hours after school. The simplicity of the graphics (when I see it now), the music❤ and the cool sounds when you made a headshot or monster kill made me playing this. I had no mobile phone or internet to get distracted from, only Age of Empires, Wolvenstein and this beauty. Thanks for making this mix.

    • @VintageModernRemixes
      @VintageModernRemixes  10 месяцев назад

      That's my favorite era of gaming right there. The only distractions would be an IM on AIM or ICQ, where you'd have to ALT+TAB out of the game, then the game crashes, then your computer crashes with the blue-screen-of-death, then you reset and your master boot record is corrupted. Those were the days!

      Great times! The music style in UT was sort of the final act for the tracker/Demoscene music style that started in the late 80s. As far as electronic music goes it's very unique and has its own charm, while a bit rough around the edges at times, it never gets old for me. 🥳

    facing worlds, one of the greatest maps ever created, in one of the best games ever created, so sad people didn't like UT3, it was the ultimate UT experience. If they just had made a solid UT4 foundation then the community could have created all the maps and mods it would have needed.

      @VintageModernRemixes  10 месяцев назад +1

      I really liked UT3, it's a shame there was not much going on in multiplayer. I think it was pretty much perfect as far as game mechanics and balance, particularly weapons.

    • @rokkokeep1020
      @rokkokeep1020 10 месяцев назад

      exactly, balance was superior, and vehicle ctf was also extremely balanced, but people always cried because they could be killed in one second by some powerful vehicle weapons. But for skilled player it was no problem to handle all these vehicles. I played UT3 last year on some private servers, I guess they are still online and it's possible to play some of the nice custom maps. If you are lucky you could find 1 or 2 players online :)@@VintageModernRemixes

    This music, sound and game design is perfectly capturing the somewhat uneasy tech optimism of 90s. Raves, computers, psychedelics, neo-60s renaissance, to the future through the past - entertainment as dope as lsd. Nick Land and the Lemuroid Time Wizards from the Future with their Fanged Noumena. The 'U' logo has it.

      Yes, I recall now the TL quote. Things have gone much more rhyzomatic nowadays.
      I am missing that PC games are not the 'new new' thing. Imho, at least to me, they have lost the 'magic' of new and radical fantasy.
      I remember, when Tomb Rider came out, and later they made a Tomb rider movie. They do not make movies of games anymore, to my knowledge. It's the another way around again.
      Tho I am not a big fan of Tomb Rider.

    I know it's so cheesy to say "I was born in the wrong generation"
    But a part of me is sad that I missed out on the rise of personal computers. I'm studying computer engineering and it's all just learning about what a bunch of people developed 30 years ago. Maybe 30 years ago I could have been one of those people, defining standards and paving the way for progress. Nowadays, there's so much computer that it all just feels like a drop in the ocean.

      I agree, I only caught the tail end of this exciting period you're talking about. When I started using computers in elementary school, the Intel 486 was the monster super fast machine. It ran Doom very well (very well back then was like 20 fps lol) Then when the Pentium chip came out, we got true 3d like Quake and Unreal. Point is that each generation of processing power felt like we launched 10 years into the future, and it happened every year or two. We went from Wolfenstein 3D to Unreal in five years. But around the early 2000s is when it got boring for me. Each new generation of tech is often just a new lick of paint or making something shiny that wasn't shiny enough before.

      And regarding the software side of things, in the 80s most applications were written from scratch in assembly. A long way from what we can do now where you reference a library and write a five line program.

      The story of companies like Valve and Epic and how they did what they did is pretty inspiring :)
      I started playing on the PC at just the right time. Command & Conquer, TIE Fighter, UT :)

      Thanks! It's very 2fort-esque, especially given that just one sniper can potentially control the entire map.

    i wish they would bring this back, they took down sites regarding the new release so its either not happening or they are revamping the site

      Yeah it really stinks, but at least we still have an incredible series of games to play forever. We are lucky to have gotten so many Unreal titles before they gave up on it. The community has kept it alive with homemade master servers, etc. so we can still play online. Happy fragging!

    I love this map so much that i remade it one to one in Unreal engine 5.
    Probably one of the best maps with esthetics, gameplay and music all merged in one masterpiece.
    From 1999 - UT99 never left my HDD

      Thanks for pinup !
      You can find the links on my chanel for download and video for CTF Face Fly by, RUclips wont let me add links
      The map was intended for UT 4 but Epic announced that they were killing the UT4 so i decided to port it to UE5 and made my custom hud and some weapons.
      i liked the UT 4 CTF Face, but there is something about simplicity of UT -99 but the best is UT-99, Face from UT 2004 is second favorite but it laks Forgone destruction i can't comprehensive why they decided to change sound track, but atmosphere is on point
