They estimate Phabeni is about 4 months old. Not intending to be offensive here, but at 4 months in the wild baby elephants will naturally consume certain things. The bottles he'll be fed for several weeks are call "Shit Shakes". They take some of the dung from one of the healthy adult elephants in the herd and mix a portion of it in his bottles along with milk formula and a few other ingredients. They will also hand feed him some of the dung directly. The baby elephants need to ingest the dung to develop healthy bacteria in their gut. Their milk formula during their first year, in particular, changes several times. Adine, who loves the elephants with her whole heart, performed alot of research and spoke to a number of large animal veterinarians to develop just the right formulas for Khanyisa over the last 3 and a half years and they will now use the formulas they developed with Phabeni. I'm excited to watch this new baby grow and be welcomed into the Jabulani Herd.
@catherinethomas1276 Adine has mentioned this before in videos, and again in the live feed yesterday...in the baby's milk they add dung from other herd members as it helps their gut area. That's why milk looks brownish. Baby elephants will also eat dung which helps with digestion. You may recall videos of Khanyisa doing that very thing when she was very young. They call them "poop shakes" or "s**t shakes."
To see these grown men so excited about this new elephant brought tears to my eyes. True Angels along with Adine and those at HERD. God bless all of them for showing compassion to this innocent. I know, it's madness! I get the logistics and cost of moving him, and that they can't release a milk dependent baby into the Kruger Park on his own (he wouldn't last long against predators), but this is why we have places like HERD and HESC. Surely the first thought is to help him not kill him. I think Nungu was already being his guardian angel and made sure he ended up near a lady who was determined to save him.

Look at all those proud daddy smiles. Awww you can see the love already. How beautiful.
He's fiesty and a fighter! He'll be fine, I'm sure. Thanks to everyone that was involved in saving that baby. He can't help it that he got separated. He deserves this chance! And Lammie is telling us all about it lol. I'm excited to see who the adoptive mother is going to be!!
Move over Pink Princess.....Phabeni has arrived what a handful! LOL
I’m so glad that Stavros was there. He has such a way with the babies. This is not to take anything away from the other men who are clearly happy to rescue this little bull.
So glad we have HERD. Thank You.
Big thank you to the person who filmed the rescue and journey for all of us to see 💙💙
Yes, GREAT JOB!!!
Thank you all , for saving this beautiful baby elephant !! You are all so sweet ❤
Thank you HERD for saving this baby’s life.
To all you beautiful People we need to Donate to HERD help them with bottle milk not only for this precarious baby but for Khanyisa.
Adine count in my donation. Love ♥️ all.
It's utterly shocking that if not for the woman whose yard he wandered into, this beautiful little bull would have been treated as a nuisance and killed. Just shocking!
Thank you, Stavros, Tigere and Joshua for your efforts toward little Phabeni. Thank you, HERD. God bless you all!
❤️
Love when he tries to headbutt people. So cute and feisty!
I read this several times to digest the word " shoot". I'm far from naive and know it happens every day but can't wrap my head around it.
@avs6372 I know. I had to read it a couple of times myself. It would have been such a waste!
I can't believe their first instinct was to kill this poor animal, who is the victim here.
Never ever hurt an elephant. They are very special creatures and soo. Smart!!
@@deanneteats5672 they are orphans because human wildlife conflict has taken over. Besides droughts, accidents and predators and tourism abuse in Asia. The level of hurt is over the top. That's why wildlife conservation exists. They spend so much $$$ on finding solutions and funding is everything.
Fabulous.
Thank you all for your compassion and service!
Welcome 🐘🥰Baby Phabeni…❤️meaning
“Shelter” in Sotho!🎉
Blessings to all!🙏🏼🐘
Welcome to the herd little Phabeni, you are in the best hands possible so you can recover from your ordeal and the loss of your mother. May you grow to be a strong and healthy, happy and secure with your new carers, friends and elephant family in your new environment. To everyone who made this rescue possible - thank-you so much. I'm so excited there is a new baby in the Herd - Lammie is too 💜 Here we go again!
You are all heroes!
Thank God for the lady not letting authorities take him
I love seeing strong men being kind and caring to something that needs it. The men and women at HERD are so special!
I hope the lady who sheltered Phabeni from the authorities who wanted to kill him gets a chance to visit him at HERD one day 🙏🙏
@lindaj5492 Linda, what a beautiful thought and wouldn't that be a moment for posterity? We'd all be in tears with that video. I do hope Adine and HERD find a way to thank her and let her know how many people around this planet are sending thoughts and prayers of thanks for her loving actions. There's a place in heaven for her...IMO!
Well said
That would be WONDERFUL🐘💙🥰 Thank you just isn't enough for saving the LIFE of this scared, confused, HUNGRY baby boy💙🐘🍼 There IS a special place in heaven for such a CARING + LOVING SOUL😇👩God bless you for giving this little, feisty bull a chance at life🙏 Phabeni couldn't be in better hands👩🌾👨🌾🐑💙💚🐘🍼🙏
And now she must be feeling so sad knowing about his sudden demise.. 😢
I don't understand why they wanted him shot to begin with. If he wasn't showing signs of a disease then it is ridiculous idea.
Thank you Gentlemen for taking care of this beautiful baby elephant
Thanks very much to the lady who saved him. Thanks very much to the wonderful careers 🍀 and the extraordinary Herd that will brought him up 🎉🎉🎉. He is safe now. Hi khanisa ❤️
The woman who saved him is a legend, I'm sure there were plenty of people who thought one less elephant was the best kind of elephant. Mad respect to her from NZ.
@@complimentary_voucher exactly 👍👍👍. Yes respect also from Europe 🇪🇺🍀🍀🍀
Bless her soooooo much ❤❤❤❤

A new baby elephant at the Herd and took to the milk bottles Wonderful🐘💙…..Phabeni is the same age as Khanyisa was when she first arrived and Lammie can’t wait to take over as his comfort companion🐑❤️ A job well done by all the Carrers and staff at the Herd ❤️
Goodness! Fancy waking up to find a precious little baby in your backyard. God bless the dear woman for standing her ground to save little Phabeni. My heart hurts, thinking of how scared and confused he must have been, wondering where his mummy and family are, and they must surely be wondering where he is; so sad. But thank heavens for HERD's amazing team! How excited they all are, and Khensani too. So glad Stavros was there to help keep the little guy calm during the journey and at the nursery too. Praying for sweet little Phabeni's recovery and integration into his new family 🙏❤🐘❤
We all love those gentlemen❤❤❤❤❤❤
A humongous thank you to the lady who was determined to save him. Thank you to the vet and staff who picked him up and thank you sooooo much to HERD for taking him in. Thank you to the HERD carers for taking such good care of him. When I saw him drink the milk, I teared-up and I'm so happy to see he's in good hands.❤❤❤❤Grow strong little one we love you very much.❤❤❤

💕Lammie (Nungu , your memory is a blessing 💕)
Phabeni will have a guardian angel looking over him. 💙
Thanks to God that HERD exists for baby ellies in need! I share the team's joy and excitement for this adventure. Phabeni is already showing his spunky personality 😂
Lovely to see this little calf taking to the bottle
I found this channel last year when Khanyisa had already been staying at the orphanage for a while, so this is the first calf whose journey I’ll have the privilege of following since day one! So excited to get to know Pahbeni and for him to eventually meet his new family!
Endless thanks as always to the carers who rescued this poor soul 🩷🩷🩷 He couldn’t be in better hands
Rest in peace little brave angel 🙏
Another little Ellie saved, thanks to the Herd let's Hope all goes well for the little one . 🐘🐑
Thank you so much to all of you for your care and love to this baby, he is so cute❤❤
I SIMPLY LOVE THESE MEN FOR MANY REASONS...PURE LOVE FOR LIFE, COMFORT AND SUCH HAPPINESS WHEN GIVING HARDWORK AND CARE. THANK YOU!
WOW!!! Have you ever seen so many excited people !!!!! I had goosebumps from head to toes with the first glance. Shame,he's so tiny!!!! I was smiling so hard when Stavros was trying to peep into the crate for his first look. So,cute,Daddy Stavros sat in the back with the baby and it was so fitting for him to be the one to give the first bottles to the baby. This was so lovely to see. Thanks to you all.
Such an amazing awesome team 👍🏻 you guys are doing a great job in saving the lives of innocent baby elephants 🐘 ❤
Bless the woman that wouldn't let the authorities shoot Phabeni. Every elephant life is important as their numbers have decreased of late. You can see how excited the guys were to go to pick up this baby. He is in very good hands and I am pretty sure Tokwe and Lundi will be over the moon with happiness to have another little one to raise.
THANK YOU so much for taking care of our animals. The people involved are angels!!!! 🐢❤️❤️❤️
I think I've watched the video 6 times. The one man was rude to the lady that wanted to save Phabeni. I just wanted cry when he was having his bottles. The look on his face so sad and yet grateful for his bottles. It's way to easy for some to kill. God bless everyone at HERD..
Thank you 💙 God bless you all ❤❤
I can’t wait to follow this little guy’s journey. I followed Khanyisa’s story from the time she was rescued blossom to the healthy girl she is today. Thank you for saving this baby!
Thank you to all the beautiful kind hearted people who helped save the baby! The sweet baby is in very good hands. Lots of love to you all and to the baby❤️😊❤️😊❤️
Still miss this little boy everyday. Beautiful pup
That's where it all started. 7 months of love, joy and care. Thank you for sharing. My dearest condolences...
