- There have been some heartstopping moments over the months that Khanyisa has been in our care at HERD. We’ve shared them all with you here and loved reading your reactions and messages! We’ve learnt so much about these incredible animals through Khanyisa and her herd and hope you’ve enjoyed the journey too!

When I was a child in the 1970's and we watched wildlife documentaries, they would depict Elephants as big, aggressive, and dangerous.
Adine has brought us these wonderful youtube videos demonstrating that Elephants are actually very social, very family orientated, and can be very gentle, when you gain their trust after EARNING their trust.

In another video, they mention the males are on contraceptives to keep them from going into musth.. this keeps the overall aggression down a notch or two.
Oh my goodness this is almost 20 minutes of pure emotion from the moment Khanyisa met the herd they accepted her without hesitation their ability to open their hearts to those who have gone through struggles and loss like they have is one of MANY things that make this family so special. Sunshine was their baby from the get go they immediately knew she needed comfort and love which they have provided for her in trunkfuls along with so much more it’s so beautiful to be here on this journey and to see it from the start thank you for this video full of joy I’m tearing up watching.🥹🥹💖💖🐘🐘

Beautiful memories! It is such a pleasure to be able to follow little Sunshine on her journey with her herd and see the love they share! One of my favorite moments is with Khanyisa pestering Timisa and Timi getting tired of it and bellowing and the ladies come running to settle them down!❤

Look at the love these wonderful animals embraced this lost little baby into their herd. Khanyisa isn't frightened at all and happy to be in the loving circle of LOVE. Lundi is wonderful and sweet Mum for Khanyisa.
That was so very special :) My doctor is from Hoedspruit so I told him to give Khanyisa a hug from me lol.He is coming to South Africa soon :) I know he can't give her a hug but I hope he can go watch the herd on a bush safari trip.

Wow! I'm blown away by the absolute beauty and fashion in which the herd holler, trumpet, shout, honk, warble, purr, grunt, blow horns and literally dance with joy at the arrival of sweet Khanyisa! The elephants' kindness and soft patting and slight touching of the trunks are truly unique characteristics of this magnificent animal. Ohh dit is zo emotioneel om weer te zien, vooral de 1e begroeting brengt tranen van vreugde , gewoon de gedachte dat ze niet meer alleen is, maar omringd door een nieuwe olifanten familie, maakt me blij. Ze is kind van allemaal. Hoe alleen is ze geweest zullen we nooit weten , ik ben enorm blij dat ze een plekje bij HERD heeft gevonden, het was niet eenvoudig, hard werken, uithuilen en verder gaan, maar kijk wat er bereikt is, een jonge gezonde blije olifant met een heel leven voor zich. Dank jullie allemaal voor de goede zorgen.
She is so special and so is her herd! The way she bravely approached them and they quickly accepted her is was so amazing. So much love and protection for her from all sides by the herd! How could anyone harm these animals???? You have brought all of us great joy and insight into this baby and her family/herd.
Isn't it amazing how they recognize the elephants and knows she is an elephant too? As a baby, even a non human animal will be focused on one thing, the protection, safety, warmth, and nourishment from one care giver. She is still so young to have begun to understand she is a specific type of being. An elephant. To just run right up to them is awesome.
I funny know how I missed this before, but I'm glad I found it.
My education revolves around psychology of behavior, and is centering on animals for some reason. I just gravitated towards that.
I've begun branching out from primates.
I believe I'm going to learn from the elephants too now. My mother loved elephants beyond reason. Birds and elephants were her thing. She'd love this if she were still with us.
Khanyisa is my hero, role model, and inspiration. Love you girl! 💗💗💗

Princess K was their baby and that was it. Lundi had a pretty pink Princess to raise and it was a delight to see. 💕 🐘 🐘 ❤️
The first introduction in the wild was my favorite. She was so excited she stopped, turned around and went pee then all the other elephants surrounded her with a protective wall.
They are memories that you will never forget, Khanyisa is such a Beautiful Elephant as are all the HERD, and its thanks to you Adine and the carers that the Elephants are having such a great and loved life
I'll never forget the reception Khanyisa received from the herd in that first scene, it was so amazing & so emotional 😭😍 I've watched that video multiple times since it happened! What an incredible feeling you must have all felt to have seen her being accepted by the herd in such a glorious way! ❤🙏🐘

The first time Khanyisa met Jabulani, she seemed to be kind of shocked, like, "Wow, that's a huge animal! I have never seen an animal that large before today!" 😂😂

@@cindyjohnson5694 Fenya earned her wings... she has a beautiful tree planted in her honor. Failure to thrive after all she'd been thru. But she had known a friend in little Khanyisa n lots of love n care.

No history needs to be taught and the evils that was dome to show how pgreed, or thinking your better than another group of people because of skin color and all the evil things that was done to hold a community back. So then it can be acknowledged and fix. Until that is nor done then in no way are doubtful teaching or wanting love an acceptance because there UK s call fixing something,turn around and fixing the evil that was and is still being done to a race of people until you stop and respect and fix he evils that was done First. Then you can Moe on to love and acceptance. And it's nothing telling he truth to ask how can some people go so down in depth wit they evil doings and what cause them to do something like this. To invade a set of people and take they continent and separate it like your God . how cam you be this wicked are you born evil, is it in your DNA or is it because of deep seethe jealousy and envy which turns into hatred.

My two favorite videos are the ones of Kumbura just absolutely terrified and beside herself trying to get Khanyisa and Timmi away from the water, and when Khanyisa was on one of the first walks, and she accidentally slipped and fell in the soft sand and got immediate attention from the herd, and then she proceeded to “slip” on purpose several more times. 😂. I also loved the video of Jabulani visiting her at the fence.

Thank you to all of you at HERD for caring for and allowing these elephants to be elephants--not dancing or doing tricks for tourists--and sharing the richness of their lives with us. I have been educated and so moved so many times, by the love they share with each other, with their carers, and especially with pink little Kanyisha who has found a loving home with her own kind, after suffering terribly at the hands of humans. I bless you all for the loving care you have given her to make this possible and for sharing her baby joys and stumbles with us.

When it just fits, it fits! Khanyisa is the missing piece of the Jabulani Herd and they and the carers didn’t know it until the mornings Khanyisa was held behind and she came to the bush for those incredible greetings!!
Yes. I think many of us will never forget this moment. They greeted her and immediately when into protecting mode. No hesitation, just a complete reaction on pure love and acceptance. I believe since that moment she became part of the herd and being the youngest came with an extra protection from all the adults. Right after that greeting she was no longer and orphan elephant. SHE WAS AND ALWAYS BE, PART OF THE JABULANI HERD. Thanks Adine and Crew. It still and wonderful journey that we wait for every morning.

The first clip in this video showing the bonding ceremony was viewed by more than a million people. When Setombe, Klaserie and Bubi gave the first "clarion call"🎺🎺🎺🐘🐘🐘the HERD came running from all directions. And look closely at how Meisiekind in deference and very instinctively, turned around and gave a little back bow--just like a good little girl. The whole video is just fantastic. Khanyisa has has a blessed life and we so are happy for her. She has the best of care because she is loved and she loves you in return.
