- This is the 3rd episode of a 3 part series off-roading in my 2016 Toyota Tacoma through SE Oregon and SW Idaho.
Part 1 includes a trip to the Christmas Valley Sand Dunes where we test out the truck's capability on the largest inland shifting sand dunes in the Pacific Northwest. The Christmas Valley Sand Dunes encompass over 11K acres with dunes of up to 60 feet tall. Next we venture deep into the remote reaches of Eastern Oregon on the Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge.
Part 2 starts on the Hart Mountain Antelope Refuge and continues on to the Alvord Desert where we do a high speed run in the Tacoma on this dry lake bed spanning 7 by 11 miles. After a quick trip the Willow Creek Hot Springs we continue toward the Idaho border as we try to reach the 3 Forks Hot Springs on some remote roads.
Part 3 finds us in SW Idaho on a snowy closed road up to Silver City. After getting the truck stuck we attempt a hike to Silver City before heading home to conclude this adventure.

I could give you lots of advice on snow wheeling, but the best would be to join a 4-wheeling group that regularly does deep snow runs and you could see just how it is done. The number one piece of advice is to not travel alone, however I am like you I do so often. Of all the comments below the worst advice is to use chains. The chains will only remove the loose snow under your tires even quicker, thus high centering the belly of the truck. Chains are for solid/hard packed snow and ice on roads. From experience in very similar snow to what you encountered.
it was cool watching you mount it then see it in action! i just got my tacoma and i want to put a winch on it. awesome video
chain up and go anywhere in snow, thanks for the scenic views and the adventure!
Thanks for watching!
mike, those buildings and hill side would make a great western movie backdrop. love the videos
For sure! I've gotta think some movies have been filmed here
Incredible vlog wow. Thank you for sharing. Love your Chanel!
Thanks!
Great video! Would love to visit Silver City!
Very interesting! Thank you.
Nice.. great video. I'm going to need to check that place out..but in summer!
Yeah like I said I'll be going back!
Abandoned town??? That’s awesome 😎
Hey I know this video is old, but next time, dig the front tires a little ramp to go up (if possible), and let the winch do the work instead of burning of those traction boards! I learned the hard way once too lol.
Woulda been a good time to use mts. If you notice not all your wheels were spinning, mts mud/sand would have taken care of that.
How did you get to the winch lever to free spool the winch line? From above or below?
I'd u end up using the larger tree at a steeper angle or stay on the smaller tree?
deep snow ice means chains..
did you lock the differential?
Yes
Are those the Duratracs?
Yes
Really man? Anchor trees at the base.
Vice design makes a flip up license plate mount! @vicedesigns
You don't like my creation?
Putting it reverse and then into crawl control would have gotten you unstuck.
That tree is too small! If there's big boulders near by you can use those too. Doesn't have to be a tree
Not sure if this is mostly fake in order to generate content or just a combination of poor knowledge of snow driving, poor knowledge of how to dig out, poor knowledge of how to use recovery boards, and even worse knowledge of winching. Why do you reverse the winch 3-4 times? I suggest watching some youtube for recovery and winching and then driving a lot more in the snow.
