  • The mountains are calling and the conditions are perfect. Time to dig out MazGrande and meet up with some buddies for some snow wheeling. Dirt Lifestyle Nate brings out his late model Toyota Tacoma. Garret is showing us how it’s done in his v8 Jeep Grand Cherokee on 39’s. Make sure to watch as carnage is inevitable.

Great vid - I really like this level of production with no fancy edits and music and all that...feels much more 'real' and just like an average guy out on the trail. Even Nate's stuff is getting more 'produced' these days. Seems to be the route most go if they last long enough, advancing from basic to more advanced/produced videos. Sadly the more highly produced the harder it is to relate to for average guys like me.

I like that V8 ZJ. I had one for a short time mildy built on 32's. It had over 200K miles on it. I drove it to work and all over the state of Arkansas for alittle over a year and wheeled it a couple times. I started to get a plan together to build it alittle more better for like a UA rig but finally decided against it and sold it. I bought a 2.5L TJ, blew the motor up in it eventually. I liked the ZJ V8 so much I bought another ZJ and pulled the engine and trans out of it and put it in the TJ. Again the ZJ V8 had over 200K miles on it. Fresh gaskets and timing set and its done great!

The way that front end snapped is the reason I went with tons, I snapped an axle once just by going from reverse to drive, it is very frustrating to drive for hours to get to the trail and break so easily. All those lights on Nate's dashboard is not something anyone wants to see on a new vehicle, specially with so many hours to make it reliable and I KNOW that Nate have done it all to make that Tacoma happy and it just won't happen. I got rid of most of the electronic crap on my rig because of this, even the lockers are cable actuated to keep things simple.

Yeah, I really enjoyed Nate's build of the Tacoma, but I really don't think it's the right tool for the job. Not sure building a late model truck, or at least a Toyota, to that level is really worth the cost and trouble. I think he recently said that he was going to get rid of it soon to focus on other projects. I have a late model 4Runner, but at least the transfer case is lever operated and I never have an issue getting it in and out of low range. Even then though, I wouldn't try to build it up for anything like this, it's mostly just a mall crawler.

    • @jeblittle7999
