When I was a child, I always wanted to build an underground bunker......I learned at a very young age that 'structural stability' is a thing, and dirt + heavy rains = a large waterhole in the yard and no way to explain it before my parents came back.
Is it just me or does stuff respawn in the large underground base in the crater. I disassembled doors and lockers when I went in, but when I returned later, the doors and lockers had respawned, as well as some oxygen canasters that I looted the first time. I think it implies that the occupant is still in the base and rebuilding after you leave.
Just like Subnautice, Planet Crafter should focus on story and send co-ordinates time to time via email so we can focus on story rather than just terraforming

I always just built basic pillow forts myself. Less risk when the structural integrity fails.
Fleece blankets, dining room chairs and a bag of clothes pegs: my borthers and I made epic bases that lasted for days!
