- *Make sure your Disc Auto-Start is set to Off:
Settings/System Settings/Disc Auto-Start/Off
* Make sure your disc is clean!
Remove Disc and wipe with a dry, lint-free cloth.
From XMB:
1. Settings/Network Settings/Internet Connection/Enabled
2. PlayStation Network/Sign In
3. Insert Disc.
4. Game/GT6/*Triangle* for Options/Check For Update.
5. Press OK. The update will start to download within the XMB.
6. Download the first 6 updates only.
7. Allow the updates to install, but cancel the 7th update and exit.
8. Remove Disc.
9. Disconnect the internet.
10. Insert disc.
11. Start GT6 and cancel the connection prompt.
The updates will now install within GT6.
This part is important:
After playing around a bit inside GT6 offline, press Start and select Options:
1. Game Data/Install Game Data/Delete Installed Files.
2. Network/Clear System Cache.
3. Exit and manually Save
4. Quit game.
From XMB:
1. Game/GT6/Remove disc.
2. Settings/Network Settings/Internet Connection/Enabled
3. PlayStation Network/Sign In
4. Insert Disc.
5. GT6/Options/Check For Update.
6. Press OK. The 7th update will start to download.
7. Download the first update only.
8. Allow the update to install, but cancel the next download and exit.
9. Remove Disc.
10. Disconnect the internet.
11. Insert disc.
12. Start GT6 and cancel the connection prompt.
The update will now install within GT6... Again.
Repeat the last 12 steps above until you're at the latest version 1.22.
Be patient, and follow every step, every time. ie. Remove disc, Clear System Cache and Delete Installed Files. It may be a random thing, but worked for me this time.

I'm sorry but the fact that anyone has to do any of this is Total Bull Shit!!! This game "PS" exclusive it should work straightfoward out the box... all this manipulation of the game is a waste of my time and money. Those of us that have had issues with this game should sue Sony.

This fix ended up working for me! Thank you! Mine went a little different though. I followed the process to a tee, but it still downloaded 13 updates. Wouldn't just kick over to the latest 35mb version 1.22. This time it worked though. Prior to clearing the data and cache it wouldn't work. Maybe it was luck, maybe it was the process. Either way, I'm up and running/driving. Thanks again!

Just bought it today (18 July 2020, used condition) from a friend. Lucky for me there is no problem occurred in updating and installing all the updates on my 1st try 😃.
But it update only to 1.21 (not 1.22), and takes about 4 hours to complete everything. The game can be play smooth with no errors/problems (yet 😂)..

So I just figured I would share my experience real quick. I went through this entire process several times with my PS3 fat. I followed the instructions to the letter and it did not work past the fifth update. 1.06 It would consistently fail past that point no matter how careful I followed the instructions. In the end, I ended up purchasing a solid-state drive and the digital download copy of the game for $15. This was in addition to the physical copy that I had because I have a suspicion that it was due to slow read speeds from the Blu-ray and possibly the way that this game installs files as you play. Once I allowed the digital download to fully install, I downloaded the first six updates 1.06 and then downloaded each sub sequent update one at a time following instructions until version 1.11. Then I updated in groups from 1.12 to version 1.16. Then I went from 1.17 to 1.22. And to my relief I now have a fully operational game thank God. Not sure if it mattered but I was making sure to clear the cache every time. Just a heads up keep an eye on your HDD indicator light if that ever stops flashing then the installation will fail. Also, all updates were displaying an indication of progress which they were not before I added the ssd. Good luck everyone else!

delete updates . reinstall update, beginning should say 1/21. At 1/17 cancel quit game(psn button).....goto setting..network settings...internet connection..disable...Start game. The game should play at ver 1.16 or 1.17 offline ..continue though tutorial then quit and follow Kel Stewart (My Hero) instructions..WaLa
preparation will stop and run game at ver 1.16 or so oppose to 1.22 which is too much at one time..

Man in mine ps3 said that I have not enough free space on the system storage but I reset ps3 and again said that I have no free space on the system storage...

This method worked for me!
I downloaded the game and then proceeded with the massive updates...that failed. After finding this video...I deleted and downloaded the game again. It gave me hope. It took about 2 days and made sure to stop the update with the larger files...the smaller ones loaded ok with a few batched together. Tada...the game works...v 1.22

Last night it was 981MB now its 1255MB!!! Why!!!!
Well today july 3th 2020 I could install all updates with no issue, here is the info:
1.- save your game progress in a usb stick to keep your records.
2.- delete game updates. Leave the game as it installs for the first time.
3.- VERY IMPORTANT STEP. DELETE YOUR GAME PROGRESS FROM THE PS3. KEEP YOUR GAME PROGRESS IN YOUR USB DISK. LEAVE NO TRACE OF ANY PROGRESS OF THIS GAME IN THE CONSOLE.
4.- start updating one pkg at a time .
5.- after any pkg is installed start the game. Install the update. Get into the lobby. Gt6 will ask for a name everytime you get into the game once is updated the 22 times. Put any letter in name and last name.
6.- once finished all updates. Confirm in the gt6 lobby that you have the 1.22 version you may exit the game and.
7.- copy your progress that you prevously saved in your usb stick in the ps3 again.
8.- start your freshly gt6 1.22 version.
Thats all.

Hi mate, i know it's old, but i just received the PS3 and GT6 as a gift and i was furious to see this stupid update error when i launch the game with a big smile for the first time, and after few research i finaly find your video and (for sure with my 23 update for almost 2go) it was very long to download again, but i could not, do not thank you because you saved my day (finally my night haha) so THANKS YOU SO MUTCH from France and +1 like for you bro !!

I can't go further the 1.07 update. The Installing process just stands for hours and hours.

Just to share some current info. As of 2nd January 2018. Using a final revision, 500 GB PS3 Slim console with no previous GT6 game save present. Gran Turismo 6 (Region 2 encoding, UK Disc). Gran Turismo 6 installs, first time automatically. It installs Update 1 through to 21 sequentially, first downloading the update then installing it before moving on to the next one. It does all this automatically. It still takes about 4 hours depending upon your connection speed, but I would say they have added a fix of sorts. It's unprecedented until now for the entire game to update and install all 21 revisions from scratch, automatically and work first time. Hope this helps.
What if I check data and it’s not zero? Even to deleted all data
I have a PS3 Slim 2001A and had this issue with my digital download as well. Here's what I did.
After the failed install I deleted the game & redownloaded it and installed.
Killed the internet connection
Started Game, quit game
Started Internet connection, Downloaded 3 patches, quit on the 4th.
Killed the internet connection
Launched game and let it install updates. Quit game.
Start internet connection, download 3 patches, quit on 7th.
Repeat killing internet and installing 3 patches, etc till you've updated all patches.
I think it has to do with the total GB that you are trying to update at once? I actually DLed 5 updates at once by mistake and it took a loong time to install but it worked. To be safe I would just do 3 at a time. YMMV!!! Good Luck!! I am backing up my PS3 drive so I don't have to go through this update again!!!

I do all the steps, when entering the game to finish installing the 1.07, it stays in 20 minutes and the LED of the hard drive does not continue to flash make it slower. I don't know if I would have to leave that update for hours to see if it is installed. Could you help me please.

I downloaded and installed all 20 and it took 3 hrs no glitch no stoppage I did nt do what you did but you have inspired me, thanks oh and you have to clean your cd heads and have a clean gt6 cd when doing this. If your ps 3 is dirty nothing will work
There are Zero Updates it is the actual Console hard drive , it has to be wiped clean deleted ...took me months , to figure it out , replaced the drive now my PS3 GT6 Works fine ! well worth it .
I did the update by pressing the ok button right away on the update box, then it took from 8a.m. until 9.30p.m. to download and install all 21 of them....watch out on the install because the console will shut itself down if you just leave it, it worked ok for me although it took all day, I have a 80gb phat twin USB model
Yeah, thanks bro for me worked i updated from version 1.00 and stoped at version 1.17 i waited the preparation update to finish after this i updated to 1.22 i disabled network and i start game and i waited hdd acces to finish and its done

when i tried this i got stuck on a name enter screen and it froze up there 100% of the time
just forget it. i threw the game in the trash. it's not worth all this hassle

i actually solved this issue before watching this video (i got it in recommendations), and i did many steps you did to be honest. the only different thing i did is downloading many updates at the same time. i downloaded update 1 to 9, then 10 to 12. i didnt download any more updates, because i dont know what one is causing this problem... but now i saw this video, i will download 1 by 1.
by the way, my recommendation: DO 20 UPDATES, NOT 21, so you will have 1.21 instead of 1.22... there is not a big difference between them and also you will be still able to play. good luck!
So, I followed the procedure a couple of times and each time after the first 11 steps, when I try to get into the game menus, I get a pop up screen wanting a first and last name. I cant do anything from there. It's as if I'm locked out. I have to shut down

With network, first the update preperation... and then it says 2600 minutes, the lowest it will go is 1240.... And Without Network same thing but then i gets on 8 minutes... Why ? I cant even cancel it to play offline it forces me to install it What can i do ?

I thought this would work, but mine starts "installing" the update even with my connection disabled. Then it fails, and I have no game data / updates to delete. I think i'm stuck in an installation / update loop here. Game was d/l'ed from PS store.
Can I do this once after I have installed all the 21 updates or do I have to start over and do this process for every individual update?
So I recently bought gt6. It needs 22 updates. I am trying the one at a time as per instructions. When I try to test the game and buy the Honda Fit it freezes. Do I have to have every update to even try the game? Damn this is frustrating.

Hello, If you could please help me or explain the process a bit more I'd greatly appreciate it. I just bought the most recent super slim PS3 brand new and a brand new GT6 still wrapped up. So I know it can't be the game or console. And I've tried to install every single update on the XMB rather than in GT6. But when I go to load it up. It still tries to install all at once and it takes forever just to get an error. I'm not to sure what to do. Even if i disabled the internet connection. I've been trying to do this for the past 3 days when I bought the game and console.

I had both a physical & digital copy of gt6, but I ended up returning the physical copy because the hdd access indicator couldn't install version 1.08 (I think it was 1.08, I wasn't keeping track of the updates). Idk if the digital copy is any better.
What's with removing the disc every time? It shouldn't matter if you have autoload from disc off, no?

I have all the updates installed, 1.21. But when I get in the game, the ingame installation process fails, and I cant "check for updates" because I already have all of them. Do I need to delete the updates somehow and do that theory?

I downloaded all the updates (21), then started the game and they installed. It took about 4 hours, but none of this was necessary at all.

Are all PS3 affected by this issue? a friend of mine has a Slim (first model with WiFi indicator and Disc indicator) and I have a PS3 Slim 3000, he's having trouble updating but I don't.
Luckily he managed to update it following your steps :D With my PS3 I was able to update it as any other game would.
For some reason when I check my install file is says i have 4Kb... not sure if that matters..

Gustavo Ferrera Monroy First update is 1.01, second is 1.02, etc so yes the sixth is 1.06, so let the sixth update download and install, then cancel once it starts downloading the seventh.

Using this method I have only been able to get to version 1.06. In update 1.07, when starting the game fails.
Is it fine if I download 3 updates a time because, yea it takes forever to install the 6 updates

I just replace my hdd to ssd which way more better. Ssd make the update install faster and load gt6 faster.

Mine does the HDD install prompt every time I start the game up with internet Disabled. So does this mean I have to go threw the HDD install 15 more times. Because the first 6 downloads were 6/21 once I got to the 15th download I stopped.

Rafael Lugo It’s a pain in the A$$. Unfortunately once you get to the HDD install (which took nearly 50min for me) and you Quit the game to finish the next Download (REMEMBER you have to do the download and installs One At a Time) Repeat that process until you’ve completed all necessary downloaded update files. For me I had to do 15 separate downloads which all took alround 25min-45min with the last few were smaller downloads do only about 10min. All together it’s about a 4hr-6hrs job.

Hye, tx for give me an idea how to fix these b!@#$%t problem. I just wanna share extra step for anybody that faced the same problem. After clean the game data step, quit the game. then SIGN OUT THE PSN FIRST and check the update again and run the update. It took around near 10 HOURS-run update from ver.1.00 to 1.22, and WASTE MY INTERNET QUOTA, total nearly 20GB!!! + 2 times download update fail :-(. Finaly is work and success, yeayy.
