I love the scene when Earth is destroyed and Rose is in shock, devastation and realisation. The Doctor sees that and recognises it and sympathises with her so he takes her back to her time to reassure her that the people of her time and world as she knows it is still there. He didn't want her to feel what he's felt having just come from the war that destroyed his people and world.
God I do miss him. There were rough spots now and then looking back on these episodes but Chris and Russel really spun a powerful story that can only be described as fantastic. Despite all the problems that happened let's remember that these two and everyone else back then bright Doctor Who back and it still continues today when let's be honest, we all need a doctor.
The Ninth Doctor's time was filled with the worst pain and sorrow, but also the highest joys about life itself. That's why he was fantastic. For one season, he was the most human Doctor.
Been said a million times but Eccleston really was a fantastic Doctor and I was really disappointed he wasn't used in the 50th with 10 and 11. I hope he comes back somehow!
In the show, Chris won't. He's got a bad relationship with the BBC which is why he only did 1 series. Shame, I watched his Doctor when the reboot happened when I was 8 and I've gone through every Doctor since, shame with Jodie. So much potential, but ruined by a shitty writer
The introduction of the Daleks was excellently written. For fans who were new to Who, Ecclestone's fear/regret of war plus his aggression and his conversation with the last Dalek really conveyed the threat that the reappearance of the Dalek meant. Throughout the series, the doctor fears no one, but one sight of a Dalek and he is petrified. The series also explained why the war is never over and why we keep seeing Daleks pop up in episodes, because the time war is never over, and the battles happen through all time and all space at different points. The only difference is the doctor fights those battle alone now, to keep the Daleks from dominating the entire universe.
I just binged all of Series 1 this week and 9 is easily one of my favorite doctors. When I was introduced to the show, he stood out to me right away. I wish he stayed for more seasons but he did so well anyways.
I love knowing that while 10,11,12,13 are always having to improvise and very rarely use any high grade weaponry 9 just straight up got C4 and a timer 🤣
I love it when Rose thinks the autons are just a student prank - it draws us as the audience into how we would think in such a situation. Then is the great introduction of the doctor -RUN! .....I'm the Doctor by the way........Run for your life.
Chris walked, so David could run. And boy, did David run, and thus Matt, and Peter, and Jodie. Some may prefer other Doctors or another. But Chris shined a light so vast that it's still shining now thanks to him. All I can say, is thank you, Chris. You were indeed, Fantastic!
Although I LOVE Capaldi more than the other Docs, they all stick with me in many ways. Particularly Pertwee, Paul, Chris, Matt, Jodie and Ncuti. All the Docs are amazing in their own ways. 💙💙
Christopher’s emotional psyche is so deep. as an actor he controls them to give just enough so you feel what he is conveying just enough. what an incredible Hamlet he would be. i think Billie is the same. she is an incredible actress (i’ve seen her in other productions.). mmm she’d be a great Kate (Taming of the Shrew) cause she’d make it work that yes, she was “tamed”, but not that much. she falls in love, but she’s still a tigress. i think she’d be great in that part.
If you really think about it, if Eccleston hadn’t regenerated at the end of series 1, the Christmas invasion would still make sense. The 9th doctor now with the time vortex still passing through him, becomes sick with this much power inside of him. He would then become absent through most of the story, and the “Regeneration energy” David Tennant breathed out throughout the whole story could just be the time vortex gradually going back into the TARDIS. Sure some short bits of dialogue or short scenes would have to cut, but the story could still make sense. I would love if Eccleston stayed for another season or two. It would of been fantastic.
I love that he wanted her to go with him he legit went back for her with a new and better reason to be his companion. And she wanted to go the first time too.
They still left out her speech and the kiss.... that's such an important integral piece... it gives an big insight into his mind and this doctor's hearts.
time codes rose. 0:00 the end of the world. 6:10 the unquiet dead. 13:13 world war three. 17:13 dalek. 23:32 father's day. 27:30 the empty child. 30:02 the doctor dances. 32:28 boom town. 36:02 bad wolf. 39:58 parting of the ways. 43:21
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Eccleston is my all-time favorite NuWho doctor, period. His ability to be goofy and manic to angry and terrifying, he was fantastic. Wish we had more than 1 season with him, but I look forward to hearing him in Big Finish.
Though I would’ve liked a second season with nine, my heart is happy with how well his story wrapped up. With Rose’s help, the doctor learned to love life again. He was born after committing genocide and went out with a smile after saving the love of his life. Not bad at all.
CE was my first Doctor and, well, you never forget your first. If not for him I will not be a Whovian. One season wasn't enough. I'm still hurting from not being able to see more of him.
Maria Socorro Sayat I’m doing a Doctor Who quotes book on Wattpad and I just finished Christopher Eccleston and it’s still so sad to watch him regenerating, even if it’s Tennant coming next. We Love You Nine!!!!
Dalek was my favorite of the Eccleston era. The way they converse, the tension in the room, you can really feel that these two are ancient enemies, full of hatred for one another. It's dark, brilliant, and dare I say, fantastic.
I met him today at dragon con and just wanted to say that he is such a nice guy! He signed a quote and allowed me to record of video of him saying hello to my friend! He also calmed me down a bit cause I was so nervous 10/10 person!
I’m honestly pretty happy Eccleston ended at one series. I understand his leaving wasn’t on the best of terms, and that’s tragic, but it’s because he only had one series that his run as a whole is my favorite and I can easily say is the overall best. The other Doctor’s are amazing (in fact my favorite is Peter Capaldi’s 12th), but they ALL have episodes I found frustrating or just hard to watch. They all had moments I didn’t like. They all had character portrayals that seemed weird, out of place, or consistent. And that’s to be expected. With the more series, more episodes, different writers, there’s bound to be something that doesn’t work or doesn’t click with the audience. Eccleston avoided all of that and just had a really fantastic run as the ninth Doctor. Series 1 needed to give 110% and successfully bring back Doctor Who to both a new and old audience, and it did (or course not everyone loved everything; why would they? We aren’t all clones). The quality was amazing and there’s not an episode or moment I wouldn’t be happy to rewatch (none were boring, frustrating, or didn’t click with me). It did a great job using the time war to propel the series. There wasn’t a wasted story element in any episode. It managed for every episode to give character development to the main cast, setup for the finale, or both. Best of all it benefited from so many firsts that future series just wouldn’t have as a result of the show going on for longer (first Dalek return for example). Something series 1 did that I REALLY loved and wished were present more in later series, was the Doctor picking up and traveling with new companions he met along the way. It’s something from classic who and series 1, that we regrettably just don’t see much any more. I need more companions from none modern earth. I absolutely loved Jack’s arrival and joining of the Tardis crew. I even enjoyed when the other guy joined even though it was just for an episode. It made the Tardis crew in series 1 more dynamic and changing than it would ever be again in new who. I absolutely loved Eccleston’s run and I honestly, I’m not disappointed that in the end he chose to stay for only one series (the way I see it, that’s what made his run the best). Now if we could just convince the BBC to give Paul McGann one REALLY REALLY good series (or 2 or 3; I’ll take any number they give at this point) taking place between the movie and time war.
Deuce Moncura I was gonna come back at that but it’s actually a valid question now that I think about it. I don’t think it’s a British thing exclusively tho I’d have to check
best modern doc by a long long mile. his performance was unique and wasn't based on any other Doc which is ultra-impressive. a unique new take on the character. I respect he knew what was coming and left the show on top.
9 will always be my doctor. He was the one to introduce me to the show. He was sassy, funny, clever, sympathetic and a bit destructive. Rose balanced him out so well, and they’re relationship was so sweet. While I do love 10 and Rose together, nothing can beat 9 for me. Nothing
I genuinely can’t believe he stopped being the Doctor cuz he didn’t enjoy it. He just fits the role so well, he’s brilliant. Idk what it is about him he looks different, acts a little different but he is just still fully the doctor. Billy Piper is brilliant also.

I started watching doctor who with him when I was barely a preteen, and I loved it so much! I’m now rewatching the show since 9th’s era, and out of all of them, 9th was the most kind and relatable.
There is a very special place in my heart for 9 and through Rose he started to have hope again. I know there are people who dont like the doctor/rose relationship but we really have her to thank for all that came after.
2:15 that interaction sets his character so succinctly it just passes by if you don't think about it. The Doctor comes across countless people in countless predicaments with countless ways to think about it. He's a proper scientist though and for any hypothesis he hears about anything he always gives it some thought. If it's wrong, that's one thing. But if it's wrong for the right reasons he appreciates that as much as if it was entirely correct.
Chris did a video for me recently because I tried to kill myself, it was one of the most fantastic and unexpected moment in my life. It is definitively my favorite Doctor, along with Tom Baker and Peter Capaldi.
If you've not read Chris's I Love the Bones of You, I highly recommend it. Chris has been very low himself, but we all love him and look how far he's come! I'm sure we'll be saying the same of you soon :)
I'm with you a hundred and ten percent but I also know from seeing him speak at Galifrey One that if he had stayed on it would not, could not have worked. Fingers crossed he did say he'd be game for the 100th if he and the show are still around.

I never realised the parallel there but it makes total sense. Makes the scene all the more powerful
Why did he take her there in the first place?
I've always imagined that he didn't want to feel like he was alone in his trauma at losing his homeworld

When it's a 49 minute video for 1 series you knowww the acting, writing, and basically everything was on pointtt!!!
When Rose said no to travelling with him, you can tell how it impacted the Doctor as he's been so lonely with no one travelling with him.
DUDES I FORGOT HOW SCARY THE "Are you my mommy?" WAS.
"I'm here! Can't you see me?"
"Mummy? Are you my Mummy? Mummy! Mummy! Mummy!"

Yes! The ninth doctor needs more love!
Been said a million times but Eccleston really was a fantastic Doctor and I was really disappointed he wasn't used in the 50th with 10 and 11. I hope he comes back somehow!
He's coming back! Christopher Eccleston is reprising his role for a series of audio dramas
In the show, Chris won't. He's got a bad relationship with the BBC which is why he only did 1 series. Shame, I watched his Doctor when the reboot happened when I was 8 and I've gone through every Doctor since, shame with Jodie. So much potential, but ruined by a shitty writer
I loved the transition from 9th doctor to 10th was so masterfully done. done too early but was fantastic how they did it.
Can we also agree just how amazing Billie Piper was as a companion - such a gamble on taking her from her music backgrounds but WOW did it pay off
Yez. I didn't know she was a music diva
Watched her on you tube. Could see in some of her videos the Rose she came to be.
Why isn't this just every scene with him
It basically is
Cause then it wouldn't be the best of a good doctor, it'd be all of a good doctor.
I like Transport exactly, I can’t think of a single moment where Eccleston isn’t great.
@Iwan_89C what I believe you meant to say here is that it would just be all of the BEST Doctor!
I just binged all of Series 1 this week and 9 is easily one of my favorite doctors. When I was introduced to the show, he stood out to me right away. I wish he stayed for more seasons but he did so well anyways.
"I watched it happen! I MADE it happen!"
Gives me chills every time.
I love knowing that while 10,11,12,13 are always having to improvise and very rarely use any high grade weaponry 9 just straight up got C4 and a timer 🤣
That final scene always brings a tear to my eyes..

"You think it'll last forever, people and cars and concrete but it won't, one day it's all gone."

By far one of the best doctors in the entire run of the show
High praise coming from your kind.
“Go on, Go on, go have your little beans on toast”
My favourite line from Christopher
Christopher’s emotional psyche is so deep. as an actor he controls them to give just enough so you feel what he is conveying just enough. what an incredible Hamlet he would be. i think Billie is the same. she is an incredible actress (i’ve seen her in other productions.). mmm she’d be a great Kate (Taming of the Shrew) cause she’d make it work that yes, she was “tamed”, but not that much. she falls in love, but she’s still a tigress. i think she’d be great in that part.
A really interesting thought... thank you!
47:00 “I was at home...no I wasn’t I was in the TARDIS.” Same thing Rose.
The moment Doctor grabbed Rose's hand and said "Run!", I knew he would be a great character.
So angry, and sassy and... well.... Just fantastic
There's true gold in his and Rose's acting, I just wasn't able to appreciate it till someone gathered the best cutscenes. Thanks for the video.
Rose's acting?
Not Billie Piper's?
I love that he wanted her to go with him he legit went back for her with a new and better reason to be his companion. And she wanted to go the first time too.
Even without the time travel, I would love to travel with him
To see the universe and everything that's out there
How could anyone say no?
Still, makes you feel bad for Mickey though.
They still left out her speech and the kiss.... that's such an important integral piece... it gives an big insight into his mind and this doctor's hearts.

Did he commit genocide - or did he just think he did?
Christopher Eccleston was the best Doctor in my opinion. His performance in The Doctor Dances is an I quote, "Absolutely Fantastic!"
WE was and is a great doctor, sad he had troubles with the production higher ups.
I don’t see why people skip nine!
Because “ha ha not handsome”
They’re all good (I’m not up to Jodie yet but I’m gonna give her a chance)
CE was my first Doctor and, well, you never forget your first. If not for him I will not be a Whovian. One season wasn't enough. I'm still hurting from not being able to see more of him.
Maria Socorro Sayat I’m doing a Doctor Who quotes book on Wattpad and I just finished Christopher Eccleston and it’s still so sad to watch him regenerating, even if it’s Tennant coming next. We Love You Nine!!!!
Who? I'll 'ave 'em!
Eccleston is amazing
And always was
And always be.
Seems like fans of the 12th (me too) are very fond of the 9th too
This should have been the entirety of Series One
This would’ve been like 10 hours long and I would still watch because he is AWESOME

9 will always be my doctor. He was the one to introduce me to the show. He was sassy, funny, clever, sympathetic and a bit destructive. Rose balanced him out so well, and they’re relationship was so sweet. While I do love 10 and Rose together, nothing can beat 9 for me. Nothing

2:15 that interaction sets his character so succinctly it just passes by if you don't think about it.
