Thank you so much for making this video. I used your pvc idea for the outlet to the pump and now we'll do this for the skimmer. So excited to get this working. Seems easy enough, for my friend to do lol
Just a tip for puncturing the holes for the screws you can heat up a small Phillips head or punch ideally close to the size of the screw and it will melt a perfect circle hole where your screws go through. 👍🏻
For the future, you do not need to lower your water level, the way we always did it was we installed the skimmer gaskets and all left the center liner intact did all the plumbing and then the last thing you do is cut the center out works great.

Really curious how many people have installed hayward filters, cut the liners and it held fine year one but later on it went downhill or stayed strong etc?
Hi! Can i have some update on how the wall skimmer works since to you installed it? How long is it installed and is there any leak are damages on the liner with time? Is it worth it or should i keep the intex surface skimmer? Thanks a lot 🙏 Fab
Hey Fab thank you for the question. It’s been installed for a year now and it’s working awesome. I have zero leaks and everything is working as it should. I’m thinking about doing a video soon on all of my plumbing, showing everybody everything that I’ve added all in one video.
Yes I get much stronger suction using the original inlets. The vacuum adapter that comes with the Hayward skimmer moves to much and messes with the suction
Do you know if the vinyl stretches on this pool? We will be setting up soon & I was going to put this skimmer in before the water gets that high so I don't have to drain later. I heard someone say you don't want to put a skimmer in till later so the vinyl has a chance to stretch before you put the skimmer in. I understand where they are trying to come from but it just doesn't really feel like that would be an issue.
Great video man keep them coming I saw a couple videos but yours is definitely making wanna do the pvc plumbing and that Hayward skimmer I know what u mean about the intex skimmer bouncing around so I think it’s time
I appreciate your comment very much. I enjoy making these videos because I’m a huge fan of RUclips myself. I’ve learned so much from watching other videos, and inspires me to do the same.
I’m using a Vevor 16” this season. But I just ordered a new pool for next spring. Not sure if I will use the new intex and maybe keep my current pump as a back up. 👍🏼 I love the plumbing I’m sure you will love it
Not at all because the way I do it is I keep the skimmer wide open most of the time but when I go to vacuum the pool I close the skimmer and open the original inlets. Push the vacuum hose in one side and plug the other it gives me super strong suction to vacuum.
@@LifeLessOrdinary nice video. Thinking of doing the same. Question - why not just cut out one of the original inlets and add the skimmer there? Having a valve for each would allow you to cut suction to skimmer for vacuum or cut suction to the remaining inlet for everyday skimming. Having 3 inlets now seems unnecessary, unless I am missing something.
Good question, I didn’t want to mess with the PVC I had there lol. It’s working great the way it is. I helps me when I use my homemade vacuum for the pool
@LifeLessOrdinary I got my Hayward skimmer and set up my skimmer and plumbed it exactly like you did with the same pvc set up for the other two pool outlets (the gray cage things) the only difference is my hose was already short enough to be able to screw both ends on and I didn’t have to cut the hose. My problem is when I run the hose from the skimmer straight to the pump I have pressure but if I run the hose over to the other “Tee” like you did, I lose all pressure. What am I doing wrong. I wish I could attach a photo of my set up. It’s exactly like yours except for not cutting the end off the hose and clamping it.
Are you concerned about the integrity of the liner after cutting that rectangle in? I know in a traditional steel walled pool where you typically see this type of skimmer the liner isn't under that same kind of stresses as the self supporting design of the intex type pool.
Not at all it’s been working great. It is a bit intimidating before you cut it but Hayward makes a good product and as long as you use the gasket and screw it on tight your good
I’ve had the skimmer that goes in the pool for 2 years now and it works great. But my kids get crazy in the water and it causes it to bounce around too much. This one is much closer to a regular above ground pool skimmer and it’s pretty solid on the wall and doesn’t move.
@@LifeLessOrdinary I see what you mean about the kids making it flop around. I ordered the Hayward and am going to install it along with the hanging one. Love all your videos.
I'm still intrigued that you kept your two "original" drains and added another tee down to the filter. Any issues with air in the lines? Or other issues? And... did you need to support the weight of the skimmer?
No I did not have to support the weight at all. I’m so happy I did it this way. The skimmer works amazing it keeps the pool super clean. When I have the skimmer going I close off the original inlets. But when I vacuum I close the skimmer and use the original inlet and cover the extra hole. Doing it that way gives me amazing suction and vacuuming is so easy.
Do u need to keep the 2 original inlets? I saw some people completely do away with them. What is the difference and does it affect functionality or pump performance? Tks.
I kept them just because it was already plumbed when I added the skimmer. And I personally use the inlets when I vacuum the pool. So could you do away them sure but I like have the option to use the skimmer or the original inlets.

Yes a bigger pump gives you better suction. Personally when I run my pump I only open the skimmer, but when I vacuum I close my skimmer and use the original inlet with one side covered. It gives me the best suction for vacuuming
It works the same either way. Normally, if I’m running the skimmer, I only have the inlet valves at half or one closed one open. But I can also turn the skimmer off and open both inlets
How did you hook up the old floating skimmer once you did you pvc conversion? Or even the hose for a vacuum? I notice the 3/4 inch pvc that goes into the inlet might get in the way of putting anything else in the hole. Maybe put in through just enough to connect a hose clamp so that it doesn’t go through to the inside of the pool, then push something else through till said object and pvc meet?
Now that I have the Hayward I don’t use the floating skimmer anymore. But when I did I cut the skimmer adapter just a little which allowed me to push it into the inlet enough without hitting the pvc 👍🏼
@@LifeLessOrdinary yea I see why you’re saying. How do you use the connector with the sweeper? Leave the pvc back just enough to get the connector in to we’re it touches the pvc?
Can you post a parts list for the T’s and ball valve’s and those gray adapters? We have the same pool as yours but we unfortunately have a lot of trees. Down here in San Antonio Texas we NEED our pool up and running soon!!! Thank you for your amazing work!
You mean the into the PVC where the inlets are? If that’s what your asking great question. I wanted the ability to have two separate intake systems, one from the original inlets and second just the skimmer. I like the option of having both because when I generally run the pool I’m using just the skimmer and I close off the original inlets. And when I vacuum I close off the skimmer and use one of the original inlets. I hope I answered your question. 👍🏼
Not necessarily if your pump is very strong, you can open all of it happen. But if you ever feel like you’re not getting enough return pressure, you can close one of the inland ports or both and just run the skimmer. Or close the skimmer and just run the ports. Whatever you feel best doing for your pool.
I didn’t actually make a written list for that video. I tried to explain it in the video as best I could because a lot of those parts I made work for the project.. I wasn’t able to find everything i actually wanted for the project, so I had to rig a few parts.
I'm going to be looking for a 1.5 in. T pipe. I understand that you got a 2 in. T and had to put adapters. I'm no plumber myself lol 😆 But did your 2in. T have without adapters come with threading on both ends, one end? What is the name of that T? Also the grey threaded adapter in between your skimmer and ball valve, where can I find that one? Thanks! I'm going to attempt set up on my pool!
I couldn’t find any T that were already 1 1/2 which is why I did that. I found the grey nipple at Lowes in the electrical section. Good luck with it, I’m loving this setup
@@LifeLessOrdinary gotcha! Okay, ill look for the 2 in. T Now, do I look for a T with Threading inside? Or no threading? I tried to capture that in your video, but I couldn't make it out. Thanks for your reply and help 🙏

That schedule 80 piece I found at my local electrician. I really appreciate your kind words. Since Addie the Hayward this is the best my pool has ever run. I use the skimmer every day and it works fantastic. And when I go to vacuum the pool I close off the skimmer and use the original inlets. Hook up the hose to one hole and cover the other hole it creates a really good suction. And yes actually this next week and I plan on doing a deck video. 👍🏼
This is the third video I've watched after finding your channel. I'm curious why you kept the original Intex pool outlets plumbed in when you added the Hayward skimmer. You mentioned using the Intex ports when you vacuum but I don't see how that works with two Intex ports. During your older video on the cloudy pool you vacuumed using the "clamped on skimmer". BTW - I love your ball values with the big blue handle to quickly visualize which way the valve is turned.
I kept the original inlets because at the time I didn’t want to cut into the liner. Now that I added the Hayward I still don’t need to cut them because everything works perfectly the way it’s set up now. 👍
Honestly, I don’t typically run all three. When the kids are in the pool, I run the two original inlets. When nobody’s swimming, I only run the skimmer to keep the bugs clear from the top of the water. I love how it gives me different options.
@@miguelvillarreal1604 absolutely. The reason I close the skimmer is when the kids are in the pool they tend to play with the opening, so I just close it and open up the inlets.
@@LifeLessOrdinary Real quick, does your weir flap flow back into the pool when not in use and the kids are playing in there or does it stop at vertical? I did this on mine and the flap goes past vertical and in the pool and I worry the kids will get rough and snap it off.

Wait, so we should close the inlets when using the skimmer? Don't have both open all the time?
Not necessarily if your pump is very strong, you can open all of it happen. But if you ever feel like you’re not getting enough return pressure, you can close one of the inland ports or both and just run the skimmer. Or close the skimmer and just run the ports. Whatever you feel best doing for your pool.
Oh OK. I have the same sand filter you have. Just got to get these parts now. Was hoping you had a shopping list like in your other pvc video
I'm no plumber myself lol 😆
But did your 2in.
Now, do I look for a T with Threading inside? Or no threading? I tried to capture that in your video, but I couldn't make it out.
Thanks for your reply and help 🙏
@@LifeLessOrdinary i just watched it again, are they called reducers? They go into the T right?
That is correct 👍 go to Home Depot and ask someone if you have trouble, that’s what I do lol
@@LifeLessOrdinary
Great, thanks again for the video.
Your content helped out the most.
Salute to you and your family!
Have a great 4th of July, coming soon. Lord willing, God bless! 🇺🇸
Have you considered upgrading the pool pump?
Ive thought about it but this one that comes with it has been great
Looks amazing. I already did first pvc setup. Going to do skimmer as soon as it gets here next week. I will post pictures of mines when finished. I do have question. Were did you the schedule 80 double female. I have everything else just need to find that to attach ball valve to skimmer.
I love how you go through the steps of needed material on your videos!
Also are you going to post how you made your deck. Or at least show pictures of your deck. Looks great but simple
Loop the old skimmer holes. Loop it with a hose. Tou will now get circulation
Have you found the pump has been able to keep up with demand of 3 soures of water intake vs the 2?
Honestly, I don’t typically run all three. When the kids are in the pool, I run the two original inlets. When nobody’s swimming, I only run the skimmer to keep the bugs clear from the top of the water. I love how it gives me different options.
@@LifeLessOrdinary THanks for the reply. That makes sense actually. I'm thinking of doing this as well. I appreciate the insight.
@miguelvillarreal1604 hmmmm no on mine if the skimmer is off it stays upright. Do you have the foam part on the inside?
Thank you for the PVC videos. Your long PVC is what size? Mine is dripping and it rust the leg. I am aPVC person too and love DIY😂😂
Thank you, I’m not sure which piece you are talking about “long PVC”?
@@LifeLessOrdinary Good morning. The PVC that form the top of “T”. Not sure if it’s a 1” schedule 40 or 2”. My hoses crack constantly too. My hoses are being pepped up with 2X4. Yours look so neat and clean.
Thank you for the nice comment, The top part of the Tee is 1 1/2” which reduces down to 3/4 to go into the inlet holes.
Excellent
Excellent!
I’m loving the upgrade so far
Bestway sand filter
why use the hose at all do all pvc
My kids can be extremely rough on the pool so I wanted a little bit of flexibility. I actually made a new video this year. On my new set up.

Did you tide up your pool walls….. see that it’s rapped around poles, and your walls looks straighter….
No, I don’t have my pool walls tide
That should work
Use silicone on both sides of your gaskets. But get a real pool.
I kind of like my fake pool, but thank you for the quality comment 👍
I am very new to this pool life. Where do you live. If there is someone who lives in Bowie Md and can help do something very similar please give me a name and number.
But why did u feel the need to replace the tubes with pvc to begin with?! Completely unnecessary and u didn’t hook anything up that would justify the effort!
Thanks Chris have a great day
@@LifeLessOrdinary yeah that was a good answer!
If you watched the video I explained why I changed the tubes. A quality comment like yours received a quality response.
@@LifeLessOrdinary I mean all u did was prove ur a douche! And I did watch there was no real reason to add shit moron!
@@chriskibodeaux9818 At least he knows how to do stuff unlike you so you can get your sped self, (if you even know what that means) and go bother someone else. This man is helping people with their pools and your the moron here no need to add crap to others RUclips channel.
