Matt Sweeney from Chavez on guitar, brother on bass, Jim White from Dirty Three on drums and Classicly trained andrew wk on piano. WOW. That is an amazing line up.
Only Conan has the taste and stones to put an artist like this on his show. There is no way NBC would support this kind of music and BPB's performance without the support of O'Brien.
Kurt Vonnegut described the combined effect of artists across all disciplines to bring about the end of the Vietnam war through their work as that of "dropping a flan from a step ladder". This led him to conclude that the new function of art is let you know you are not alone. Will Oldham works for me...
Why doesn't this video have 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 views?
Got to see White and Mick turner back him at Bard quite a while ago - wasn't my fav. show (Get On Jolly is not one of my favs of Billy's overall), but have loved every other time I;ve seen Oldham - gonna see him in May at the Iron Horse again , woo-hoo. Great video, thanks for posting!
@@0228christian So without checking, I am guessing they came out with another one? Two comments in the same week on a 3 year old comment makes it seems so.
Check out Okkervil River’s first few albums. Will Scheff, much like Will Oldham, is an amazing songwriter with a unique, world-weary voice. And as an added bonus, they have some of the most gorgeous album artwork out there.
He mentions that the guest that night was Johnny Knoxville.. That crew has always been pretty plugged into the indie art/music scene, for instance specifically: Lance Bangs who directed Jackass 1&2 also directed Breadcrumb Trail (the Slint documentary). He has also worked with Andrew WK, so I bet the connections came from their end.
And in Jackass Number Two (2006) someone on-screen wore a HOPE shirt (Palace Songs EP). If it wasn't the director making a cameo then the cast members were fans too.
better than Cats, even This guy is average, for sure. When you say don't like and you get called names...it makes it true. The correct answer is ..gee..ya really think this guy is whatever...aand you say I should check out Chriss Goss.....who's that??
crazy lineup. fantastic rendition of a great song. oldham has some strangely powerful stage presence.

Remarkable how much Jim White’s drumming completely influences the sound on anything he plays, whether it’s with Will, Cat Power, or Dirty Three.
One of my favourite youtube moments. What a band, the definitive version of this song
Holy shit this is a supergroup! Matt Sweeny and the Dirty 3 with BPB! Wow.
2023 and listening for this great piece of live music
You gotta love this guy!... Nobody rocks a bald dome like him!
Amazing version . I bought Jim White a tequila shot once
A genius is the one most like himself.- Thelonious Monk
So out of his element here. An impossible task. Not his best, but him beautifully.

bonnie 'god' billy
Todo mi amor y respeto a ese gran músico, Will OLdham

Day after day, moment after moment.. I long for this song.

What a line up and a great performance. Would love him and Sweeney to do a follow up to Superwolf. That is one of my favorite WO albums.
Heads up
Superwolves is somehow just as good as Superwolf in my opinion. I'm absolutely loving it!

@@0228christian Thanks for the heads up. Already downloaded the album.
Fucking Fantastic!!!!!
@MrBrianojee Well put
Does anybody know similar music like this amazing magical version? Thank you!

I really like Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, especiallly live!
It's funny how he forgets the lines of his song here at 2:05
Oh, this is such a grat song!!
so heavy
Is there a way to get this version as an Mp3, its amazing
Sick. Sick. SIck.
Either conan has a great taste in music or bonnie prince billy can really pull some strings

Will Oldham was in one of the Jackass movies and played an animal trainer.

@Swingfinger Reminds me of Nick Cave also.
Makes zero sense that this man isn’t selling out stadiums.
What kind of guitar is PBP playing? I love the short scale neck.
For some reason he really reminds me of Nick Cave
14 yrs later I was thinking the same thing. Even tho I've never thought that before now lol
where is Andrew W.K.? It's hard to tell.
Great performence, very different to the album version which is nice.
But with a 'tache like that it's pretty impossible to be bad.
His name is Will Oldham.
What's the name of this song?
lol thats funny keep up the good fight my friend
swaying while warbling. yeah. B\
So is the band Will, Andrew WK, Jim White, Paul Oldham and Matt Sweeney?
@schnemaa1 compared to the hellish crap people listen to these days, this song is brilliant.
Okay, BPB is great and all, but the "End of the Show" song always slaps for me. Also neat to see John C Reilly on drums!
Paul Oldham's wailing reminded me of Robert Smith, and this is a fantastic performance. Those two comments are not related.
STRANGIE... t_ t
hey rev. did post the same message twice, maybe he shitted himself twice lol.
Strange Form Of Li... Line-Up (Andrew W.T.F. on piano... WTF?)
Dude is deeply strange...
Do you just leave the same comment on all videos, trying to seem deep?
i hate letterman
The worst!!!! Seriously.
not real smart, are you?
You clearly don't have a very good grasp on music, do you? Moron.
