- In this short video I demonstrate how to Use a tone generator and a tone probe to trace a network cable from Work Area to Server Room.
Im learning for Network + and doing the test quizzes. This video explains a lot, thanks!
Thank you for demonstrating the tone generator. It was informative, although it was a bit challenging to follow. I couldn't help but notice the complexity of the cables in the server room. Is this a common setup, or are there methods to make it more organized? I assumed server rooms would be more structured, so any insights you have on improving organization would be appreciated.
They pretty much all look like that, pretty hard to avoid once you start having hundreds of connections. Some racks have channels to run cables through, but this one doesn't so this is about as good as it gets.
Longer cables should be run through channels. Otherwise, you should use patch cables to connect neighboring devices. This rack has bad cable management because whoever set it up did not take the time to run the cables through channels. Whether or not the cables look nice depends on the time constraints, the service provider policies and skillset (they usually set up the networking), and management.
Thanks brudda
Thanks Bro
Is it safe to use transmitter on wire that connected to live network switch or routers to trace it? please advise
