Am I missing something? The issue isn't whether you walk backward or forward, the issue is whether you walk left or right. Left/Right changes which side of the trimmer you use to cut. Cut with the left side, and the clippings go one way. Cut with the right side, and the clippings go the other way. You can walk forward and left, or you can walk forward and right.
actually I was missing it - my mind could not comprehend this since I have done it only one way for so long. Kind of interesting - I'll do an update vid this week.
An easy mistake to make, Allyn. Thanks for your reply, and I'm really enjoying your content. I've used both methods. When standing on my driveway, I want the clippings to go forward, into my yard. When standing on my lawn and trimming around trees, I want the clippings to go backward, into my yard. So I move left for one and right for the other. It's good you brought it up. You started some good conversation.
Love the videos. My dad owns a commercial lawn business in south Florida, and I work for a lawn/pest technician company. And I have learned a lot from your videos. Thank you keep up the good work ❤️
RGS is fantastic on everything! All grass types, trees , shrubs, flowers & pizza.... I take the filters out of all my sprayers... when they clog they effect the rate, that could be a big problem with certain herbicides at low volume with something like the permagreen
I just finished mowing about 15 minutes ago, I walk forward with my echo straight shaft, it throws the clippings away from my legs so I stay cleaner. Also just got some humic, I'll be spraying that tomorrow since i ran out of day light.
Great video, I always favored backward vs because of how it climbs with it instead of fighting it. Never thought about the clippings getting in the beds, that’s awesome!! Next time you do a visual comparison, do like you did with the ‘does bagging suck up your feet video.’ Throw a white sheet down over your rocks and repeat, it would be super easy to see how much grass ended up in your beds then for each method. Cheers!
A few of my fav tips from you: mower height, bag disease otherwise mulch, change mower rake for a better cut and burning weeds. Burning weeds may have changed my life for the better, forever! You should do a top 10 best yard tips video - should be a winner.
I Trim Backwards as well, but with my Power Scooter( Disabled Vet) works for me! and? I modified a Small Port Hand Vac and it sucks up over 50% of those Trimmings.. so very Little Trimmings go into my Mulch and Garden areas.. Let your Yankee Ingenuity figure out how to attach a Vac to your Trimmer..
Tons of info tonight, gonna get me some of the RGS and do a application on my lawn. I have a curve shaft ryobi trimmer that I do both forward and backward with, I also seen Ryan's trimmer video and payed attention to what I was doing when I was trimming . Depending on where I was at I noticed that I was doing one section one way another section a different way. I was just getting done I guess. Thank you again for all that you do and I will be looking forward to seeing your next video as always. 😁
Backwards but just in all my new lawns I do walk forward the first time so I get the feeling of the area the second round and after backwards all the way
My stihl spins counter clockwise so I usually walk straight with what I'm weed eating on the right side. Also honda mower with mulch set up I follow the sidewalk with left wheels doesn't sling clippings on sidewalk as much
Allyn, Just watched Matt's podcast " The Grass Factor" who announced that you would be selling 8-1-8 X Green fertilizer. Was wondering if I could pre-order 2 bags so i don't miss out on it. Thank you in advanced.
With my M18 trimmer, I walk forward, with the trimming on the right. Same effect of walking backwards for me. But I never did it due to clippings, it’s just comfortable to me.
Its crazy how some people like to walk different ways. Backwards seems like the only way to me. Walking forward makes me feel like i might trip over the trimmer lol. HOWEVER i did watch that ryan knorr video awhile ago and took notice how he said walking forward and light trigger pressure helps clear out stuff in the fence. Ive tried it...def. works. Tough for me cause my neighbors all around me dont believe in a weed whacker lol🙄. So it def helped...but theres still some left. Ill keep at it
I usually run the Ortho at 2oz and I've had success at clearing 0-0-2 Micro Greene by just turning the setting up to 8 oz then back down once the clog passes. For really thick concoctions I've had to just increase the rate to 4oz and move faster.
you got one of the good ones! I have found that they are hit or miss as far as how well they flow from the factory. I just figure on buying 2 new ones each year.
@@TheLawnCareNut Good to hear, my biggest gripe is the container doesn't fully seal so I end up dripping some of the concentrate out and that gets messy real fast.
So here's what I've experienced with the hose end sprayers. They need to combine designs!. I can never get the Ortho jug to screw onto the handle straight so it doesn't leak. I go half and half 0-0-2 in both the Ortho and the Chapin. If the Chapin would plug, stick your finger over the top and it back flushes through the straw. The Chapin is also in table spoons not oz so half to go to the max setting. Also make sure you don't have the restriction tube in the Chapin. That reduces output to teaspoons. I had back surgery on the 18th so I have not tried the JP mod yet.
I have trouble with that Ortho screw in too! It just will not line up lol. Good tip on the Chapin table spoons. I didn't even check that - I just started spraying lol
Nice house, nice lawn. Allen, I've been watching your channel, since you lived in Indiana. Pressure wash your sidewalks brother. And get a surface cleaner to do it. It's easy, satisfying, and you could put it on your channel as a guide or for entertainment...which is why I watch. Good stuff
walk forward anti clockwise. but walk inside your landscape bed, trimmer out. this is what works for me. i have stihl fs40 curve shaft and it spins clockwise.
I actually keep my trimmer upside down AND walk backwards. I like clean straight edges along my sidewalk, driveway, bushes and bricks. I'm not a fan of the tapered look. I'm the dude that stopped by in June (FYI). Don't want to be a dick but your domination line was crooked on the driveway side I was close by on a bike trip anyway. Got the lower 48 all covered now. My wife can't understand why I watch so many of your videos. Keep up the great work
Seems like with all the N-ext products you must remove the filters from any sprayer your using. Doesnt matter brand they all seem to clog with these products. To eliminate the Chapin swing I took plastic coated wire and tied it around the sprayer and the lid. I had the same problem with that sprayer even with the filter removed it doesnt want to spray. It only gets used with liquid fert no N-ext products.
The Lawn Care Nut I can’t wait to see that review! I went ahead and bought the Toro 6O volt already, but I used your other lawnmower reviews as a guide in what to look for and what to avoid.

Interesting mod for the Ortho. Does that still apply with the newer ones that I can pop off the filter? It allows the filter to come off and still keep the weight on without the need for rubber band.
Allyn in an older video you were able to successfully spray the 0-0-2 MicroGreen just fine using the Chapin sprayer. I dont understand what changed or why you were unable to get the Micro to suck up this time but it literally sprayed just fine with the exact same sprayer in your "Spraying MicroGreene on Micro Lawn with Chafing Micro Sprayer" video. What changed?! Did you dilute the Micro with water first as you should and you yourself even recommended??
Walking backwards gives better trimmer head control and cleaner edges.forwards the trimmer tends to pull forward and bounces around more, hit a heavy patch and it Burys itself and gets tangled

Okay Allen we know your friends with Conner Ward. In fact he came down to Florida to mow your lawn. Have you ever tried a cylinder reel mower on your Saint Augustine grass. I know they can adjust high enough for ST Aug. Maybe Swardman mowers might loan a machine for a demonstration. Us fellow Floridians want to know.
Never tried it but there is a guy in my group who does - I think he mows around 2". You have to start it out that way - nearly impossible to take a thick stolon St Aug yard that is established and work it low. Gotta start low from the jump on a re-sod.
You don't have to walk backwards to get the effect of less clippings in your bed. Just make sure your weed whacker line is spinning away from your bed and then you can walk fowards.
Hi Allen. Can RGS go into the ORTHO spray stray concentrate ? Or Do you recommend adding some water like the Humic12. If yes how many OZ of water should add and which setting do you recommend for the flow of water 8oz or 4oz ?
The 50p model is better and the burgundy flow insert is what I use taking my time. They also have a one gallon model so no need to frequently reload it and a variety of mixture can be accomplished.
I walk forward but I put the right side of the trimmer (Spinning counter clockwise) nearest the obstacle. This way the trimmings are thrown away from ME and the obstacle.
so the head is kind of behind you as you walk forward? Or are you gripping it "goofy foot?" The more I look at this thing, the more complicated it gets ha ha!
Hey Mate, good reviews keep going, unfortunately in Aus most of or lawns are kikuyu and don't respond as well as St Augustine to height and stripping. At lest I'm getting most of my clients use to not scalping and mulching. What my question is have you tried using a power wheel instead of a whacker along hard edges, much quicker and easier with less waste. Cj
I also noticed you are getting that white cast look to your Bermuda grass blades.. I am also getting this and I changed and I sharpened the blade... which other will cause this look?
Has your zoysia started to grow underneath your cement pavers into your rock beds? If not, it will. It's a pain with freshly strawed yards. I guess it's a good problem to have. Very rhizomerous when it's hot
LCN, what about Cool Season area (Long Island, NY) and Meyer Z-52 Zoysia? Do your guides cover that information? I just put down plugs last year that are going crazy this year spreading around my front yard.
Zoysia looks good bro st aug does too of course but how long are you gonna let it get established before you go reel low? I cant wait to see what reel mower you get.
It will be a while on the reel. I have some leveling to do first - probably that will be a winter project. Then train it lower for a season on rotary. Maybe reel in 2021 sometime. (or sooner ha ha!)
@Allen, could you please re design an ortho type sprayer that works for Next products, also would be nice if you could recommend the perfect starter mix for tall fescue overseed and would if it would include carbon x?
Please confirm for those who have purchased the guides. Purchased in the past and have received the free upgrades. Will we need to purchase the new guide with the new price? I think im confused.
Hello I’m from the Netherlands and I would like to have the same type of grass that you have in you’re garden. Can you please tell me what type of grass you have and do you think that it will grow in my country? Keep up the good work btw!👍🏻
Sander Peters It’s mainly St Augustine grass. It generally only grows well in hot, sunny climates like Florida. I don’t think St Augustine grass would survive in a cooler climate like The Netherlands unfortunately. Various types of Fescue and Rye grasses would probably suit your location better. Maybe ask around at golf courses, sports fields and parks in your area to see what they use, and how much maintenance is required.
How worthwhile is the $25 book? New homeowner that inherited a lawn with more weeds than grass (but at least it looks green!). Need help but I’m not sure if his guide will get me to where I want to go or if I’ll need to hire professional help then maintain from there. Thanks for any help! Should also add, don’t want to buy a ton of product, so if that’s what his book recommends, could you also give advice on that?
if you have at least 30% turfgrass then the guide is for you. If you have less than that and need to do a complete burndown then it wont help there but once you do have a lawn, then the guide can help you once again.
I would recommend it! I had nearly 40% weeds in our lawns, and on a tight budget. Allyn often recommends affordable products to get you started and seeing results. My front lawn is nearly weed free and my back lawn is about 10% clover, all the other weeds are gone. After five months of following his advice, the lawn is filling in, and it looks like a completely different lawn now. I even get compliments on it from friends and neighbors.
You can still walk forward. Just go around your house from the left
Mitchell Cooper Came here to say the same!
so like goofy foot? I am so confused ha ha!!
The Lawn Care Nut Nah dude! Just walk forward, so the string spins in towards the grass!
But then the natural trigger grip is with the left hand instead of right.
The Mayor Nope. I do it right handed every time.

Am I the only one using a pump sprayer to apply my Next products? Starting to think about buying a hose end.
I have a nut sage problem. Any advice? I’m in Texas
Hey Allyn! If I buy the Bio-stimulant Pack, do I apply all that are included in the pack in a single application?
you can but it's better to mix them up differently. Here are some ideas Cocktail Menu

I prefer to use a backpack sprayer or use granular.
Yes for sure! I switch it up too. I'm all about spraying right now, but I'll go back to spreading in the fall.
@@TheLawnCareNut Can those products be used in a backpack sprayer?
I’m a backwards kind of guy but only because it makes me feel more steady and cut straighter for some reason
If we buy the book today will we get the upgraded version automatically as well when it comes out?
yes, upgrades come automatic, always.
Moe Rodriguez he answers this in the video a few times, yes you will
I cut the filter off mine before I ever tried it, 2 years ago!!
smart!
STROM backpack sprayer and gci turf spray nozzle assembly and be done. Toss your garden hose over in the neighbors yard!
yes those strom sprayers are beast!
I always walk forward to week wack, but I walk backward when I use the weed wacker for edging.
now I am really confused! ha ha!
How do you like the Parrish area? We are looking to move to the Tampa area but have no idea where to go
Manatee county is great. I'm only 30 min to downtown St Pete where all the fun is.
