Take a look at the o-rings on the camshaft solenoids. They’re notorious for leaking and appearing to be a valve cover gasket. Love what you’re doing, I always wondered if this swap could be done. I’m excited to see your progress
Wont and cant happen even the s6 NA motor cant take boost either its a great car on a tune with a nice exhaust but its going to cost alot for a little bit of hp . the rs6 which we did not get here in the states is worth working on .
I have no idea how you're going to manage getting all of that engine and transmission into the Avant, but as I have been here nearly since day one, I know you will figure something out and make it happen, like you always do. Great video guys.
Each time y'all have met a challenge y'all have grabbed the bull by the horns & showed it who's boss. You guys got this & she's going to be one hell of a beast. Where there's a will there's a way!
I'm getting ready to drop the engine in my 07 S6, any pointers before I start? Any hoses/connections that were particularly more difficult besides the heater hoses and shifter cable?
After seeing the condition of the parts car. You mad the right choice in just using it as a parts car.. You guys do a dam good job, and can't wait to see the finish product...
It's true come one with the next episode :) . About the ECU's they ( i think the ECU's are bosch) make standard ECU's with 6 outputs (to the sparkplugs), so they can use the ECU's on every engine in any kind of car, they only have to change the engine software. so if you have a 4 cilinder they use 4 outputs and if you have a 10 cylinder you need 2 ECU's (5 outputs each side), be aware that you have a parent and a child ECU don't swapp them otherwise you get some engine faillures. And for sure you have a sort block V10. that colour is way off. and thanks for the mm's, each time i have to convert from inches to mm's and than i miss somthing from the video. Hope the next video is comming soon. greetins from the Netherlands
I read a comment from German Autohaus on their video of the S6 avant conversion and they said that they just needed to build different headers with the cats in a different spot. The cats are all on the side of the trans in that trans tunnel, with a custom exhaust would it have worked without cutting the floor?
Is it necessary to heat treat the straightened parts in order to releave the material internal stress from the crash? How does it respond in case of a secondary front crash. Great video!
bolt what you had a problem is 180 nm+180 a lot of power, a AC compresor has drive shaft like in lambo's, V8 and V10 has wider tunnels because different trannsmission
Awesome! I’ve been dreading dropping the engine in mine just to replace the o2 sensors, but now my power steering is leaking all over the place so I might as well drop it and replace everything in one shot, I know booktime calls for about 20 hrs, but what’s the more realistic time frame to drop the motor?
ortiz undo wiring from ECU not from engine. Whole front end could be dropped as one, same as service position. Than goes engine mounts. To get them loose use cherry picker lift($170 in Harbor freght) remove them of frame rails not engine. Than drop engine front down to det to heater core hoses and transmission wires. In this point u can separate suspention shock struts and suspension cross members from the body. Next would be steering rack of rack and pinion. Than lift whole body up with jack and stands exposing whole engine out. Good luck
looks like a new block to me, looks like damaged in wreck and cheaper to just change that part hat was damaged. Bummer its not exactly what you thought but it's still a bad ass engine.
I know of local mechanics who would not touch newer Audi, Porsche, and BMW's. They'd tell you to take it to the dealer for engine work. You guys are brave.
Anything's possible with the right amount of knowledge, time and money. If there's a guy swapping a hellcat motor into a 350z than this is possible. But damn that's a lot of hammering or just transplant the sedan tunnel into the avant- with some modifications and welding - then just swap over as much interior pieces from the s6 to make it look reasonable inside. Also change out all the known failing parts that are hard to get to when the v10s in. It'll make things easier in the long run unless this is a low milage engine. Good luck!
Pretty amazing when you find an engine that someone else has worked on and you find all sorts of things that just aren't right. I've encountered this a few times myself. The worst case was our Mitsubishi L300, where a licensed mechanic had replaced the rings and not even honed the bore or replaced any gaskets. First thing I found was the timing belt was almost shredded. Then later, the head gasket blew. After I fixed that, some time later, the rings broke in #2 cylinder. Needless to say that I didn't bother fixing the engine. By that stage, the van had too much rust, so I used it as a parts car to fix another L300.
They have changed the block for some reason... The Reason is that the 5.2 engines are slowly dying mashines. Timing Chain issues, and Galling in the engine caused most of these 5.2 V10 to change the Block by Audi but this does not help at all. It just buys you some years until the issue comes back. Either you buy a 5.2 from the R8 or you get the V10 5.0 tfsi which can have up to 1000PS or around 980hp.
I think the engine was leaking oil because of wrong applied sealant during the assemby or damaged lower crankcase. They tried to fix it without seperating the engine again. Look like a lot of work to fix this because the lower crankcase includes the bearing for the crankshaft.
I sent an email to you guys about some parts. Anyway, just FYI, do a carbon cleaning while you have the motor out! The intake valves are probably caked.
The different color is because the aluminum heads and the upper and lower oil pans are casted with different grade aluminum. The block is a much higher grade aluminum. The jb weld is because there was and oil leak and they did not want to remove the engine and transmission to reseal the upper oil pan
At first, the parts car looked like an easy repair, but after you found that structural rust, it's just as well it's being used as a parts can. Not much worse than rust to end a car's life, other than severe crash damage. You might be able to cut the transmission tunnel out and use that on the wagon to accommodate the larger transmission.
Brian Gates It has one ECU for every bank. 1 ECU controls 5 Cylinders and 1 throttle body. The trans ECU should be mounted on the transmission 😬👌 cheers from Germany
Check the 02 sensors and put a fresh starter (its cheap) otherwise you have to drop the engine again to change those, also please dont straight pipe the car it will sound like A$$, on my old S6 i used a set of Magnaflows ($350 for the pair) and it sounded perfect, ruclips.net/video/kYwP-C0REx0/видео.html
So this is the thing. I love Audi but it's the most stupidly engineered car on Earth. Removing engine out of working car it's only a beginning. There is tons of uncapabilities between A's and S's. Mounts, wire looms, frame and suspension frames. Main are electrical headaches like ecu/transmission/ immobilizer/ abs/ traction and so on fitment. Heck, even month of production WILL make difference. It's like have Chevy and Ford, two different carmakers working on the same body and same Audi brand- everything is different. So my advice to you, just put everything back as it was on the same car and sell it before it will become your neverending nightmare project.
Yes VAG cars can be a pain. We are planning on checking all the harness and compare them if we have to we will transfers all the harness from the parts car to the Avant
@@RushinGarage it's not even that. Problem relies in coding of electrical/electronical components. U will need audi ORIGINAL test/fix equipment or really become guru in VAG scanner. Even discontenting some of the components and plunging them back would be impossible without VAG-Scaner.
andry mashka Audi electronic components are security coded. If you replace one then a VAG dealer has to connect to it and ‘log’ it with Audi. So, you will need to move ALL electronic components from the S6 to the A6. Which I’m sure you would anyway.
We are planning to move all modules and computers from the S6 to the Avant. I’m just hoping the wiring harness is the same that way I can just move the computers.
I just bought one of these cars and they are beautiful. The S6 with a v10 is a rare sight.
I don't believe you will give up, you and your partner always come up with a solution. Can't wait to see what you guys come up with.👍👍🇬🇧
We have faith in you. If you guys can't figure it out, it's not it's not worth doing then. I'll keep watching to see what you come up with!
Take a look at the o-rings on the camshaft solenoids. They’re notorious for leaking and appearing to be a valve cover gasket. Love what you’re doing, I always wondered if this swap could be done. I’m excited to see your progress

I've been waiting for the next episode in this incredible build.

Once again, the frame machine comes into play. That frame machine must be one of the best investment's you've made for your business.
Yes it is! It has saved us time and money. When working car after an accident they almost always need a pull some more then others.
I have no idea how you're going to manage getting all of that engine and transmission into the Avant, but as I have been here nearly since day one, I know you will figure something out and make it happen, like you always do.

That's going to be a hell of a car when you've done it. And I'm sure you will do it. Keep going.

what a Monumental task I'm looking forward to the next video.....love your vids....
Awesome to see an S6 V10 drivetrain

this is getting really interesting.
Those rims and tires on the A6 sedan look nice. So what are your plans with them? Cant' wait to see this build finished.
The wheels on the silver parts car are probably going to go on my current daily
So, you guys are making your own rs6?
It’s going to be a S6 Avant
Can't wait for the next episode.
Hi rush-in-garge
there is a manual transmission for the Audi V8 V10 engines here in Brazil only has automatic
Thanks
Would love to see daily rebuild uploads
Loving the progress! Keep up the good work

8 hours. Doing swaps on Audi's, I got 8 hours in average. 1 swap took nearly 2 days, as I was learning engine bay set ups.
This was my first time working on a V10 it took me about 8 hrs to get the motor out
Thanks guys, any tips to make it ease the pain lol

Thanks. I like them lol. I had a VW or Audi all the time since 19. But I’m completely new to the v10! So it should be fun
are you sure the tunnel for gearbox is the same? cause I know carpets for A6 and S6 aren't the same size:)
Just wandered, will the A6 trans bolt to the v10 engine?
That sounds incredible!!!!! Love it

Yep it’s amazing the things that we run into. Like the white wrangler that we did. I first build that we did on the channel.
@@RushinGarage Yes, I remember that bodged panel-work. Incredible that a shop would do something like that.
Love you guys! Can you tell me what kind of inspection light you use? It looks nice.
It’s the rechargeable one from harbor freight for $40
Hey what ever happened to this project??
ur doing an amazing job. thumbs up for all your videos 👍👍
Make sure you check and make sure your manifold flaps are all operational maybe even get a jhm manifold that has been revised by them or even by audi.
Can I fit the v10 in my C5?
Dang that’s a big momma.... hope you can make it fit. That would be an awesome setup
Lol yea it is!
Love this build, and sounds super awesome!
I'm in the process of replacing my radiator and the engine block on mine looks the same as yours. its got more of a shine to it than the heads do .
I’m thinking they use a different blend of metals for the block then the rest of the engine.
They have changed the block for some reason... The Reason is that the 5.2 engines are slowly dying mashines. Timing Chain issues, and Galling in the engine caused most of these 5.2 V10 to change the Block by Audi but this does not help at all. It just buys you some years until the issue comes back. Look like a lot of work to fix this because the lower crankcase includes the bearing for the crankshaft.
That’s what I’m thinking also.
Wrong cam sensor orings
The tunnel would be easy with the parts/donor car. I have a cuda I put a viper t56 in, no cutting sheet metal from a donor to do it.
I sent an email to you guys about some parts. Anyway, just FYI, do a carbon cleaning while you have the motor out! The intake valves are probably caked.
how cool, I have a 07 A6 3.2, and thinking how could I pop in there some 3.0T or V10 :D and this pops up, ytb reads my mind!
subscribed!
Haha it’s scary how that works sometimes! Welcome to the channel!
The different color is because the aluminum heads and the upper and lower oil pans are casted with different grade aluminum. The block is a much higher grade aluminum. The jb weld is because there was and oil leak and they did not want to remove the engine and transmission to reseal the upper oil pan
Didn’t see any driveshaft removal or anything transmission related
Good build
When is the next video tho...
Ferrari uses two ECU's one for each side of the engine. I would say this is the same deal.
Terry Thompson Exactly!
wow, good luck dude
Welcome to the Audi world, no info to find anywhere.lol
nice im hooked bud

Russsian garage? :)
May I suggest a new microphone
That’s not rust, come up north and you’ll see rust. I would be thrilled to see that car in my shop 😉
Oh I know how lucky we are down here in FL! I grew up in MN and I’ve seen how bad the rust can get! Just grab the torch cuz nothings coming off lol
The block looks shinny because its a different alloy to the heads. A hypereutectic aluminium-silicon alloy.
Thanks
Can you work on my s6
I saw some blue smoke came out the exhaust from last ep
It’s been sitting for awhile. Just cleaning off the carbon 😉
it has two ecu bicose is the same engine as the gailado has , each controls its own cilinder bank ;)
my theory on two ecu's is one for the motor and one for the trans potentially.. not 100% sure though
I didn’t think about that! 🤔
Just a thought that came to my head about it I know the trans is programmable separately from the engine, so it would make sense imo
Brian Gates It has one ECU for every bank. 1 ECU controls 5 Cylinders and 1 throttle body.
The trans ECU should be mounted on the transmission 😬👌
cheers from Germany
Fliegen mann good feedback! Thank you for clarifying that makes more sense
You’re welcome.
But it is very sad that the S6 Avant is not available in the US.
Here you can buy a good 2013 S6 Avant for 24k€ or 27k$
one is electronic control other is engine control not programmed the same but they communicate
Love it
When did you come here from Russia????
You can just get measurements from parts car 😃
Now that we have the engine is out yes we can definitely get all the measurements from it.
If anybody can make this swap work it’s you two.
Put the back end of the a6 to s6. Seems easier
Revive this project please.
All first blocks were replaced due to internal defect.
S6 neads a6 body rs6 s6 and a6 are same
why is that a parts cars? theres nothing wrong with it
