    I was filming an action movie with a friend, a neighbor didn't understand why an actor was standing in the back of a convertible with an AK47, unfortunately, the cop who came 15 minutes later didn't realize it was airsoft until he had already approached us with the business end of a Remington M870 Express. Good thing that old cop wasn't trigger happy! In the end, everyone left happy and the cop was glad we were making a movie instead of doing drugs or something.

      Always call your neighborhood AND put signs around the environment you are. If the SWAT comes, you WILL have to pay their transport and other things.

    • @WhoWouldWantThisName
      @WhoWouldWantThisName 9 лет назад +14

      Signs hell, you shouldn't even brandish a toy gun around your neighborhood, espeecially a realistic airsoft gun. You guys need to shoot in a location where you don't have passersby and such. Also you should probably let your local PD know what you're up to and where beforehand. They will be a lot easier on you if or when they do get a call. That is what airsoft event producers do as SOP.

  • @TransistorBased
    @TransistorBased 9 лет назад +65

    I understand you're basing this off movie rules, but a real muzzle flash for a pistol (assuming this is a 9MM or .44) is nowhere near that big.

    • @KhronosStudios
      @KhronosStudios 9 лет назад +8

      They are very close to that big, i have flares taken from real pistols on back background and when showing every bit of spill that comes from the flare it looks huge even though the fire spill is less then an inch out of the barrel. 2nd off people have no idea what real gun shots sound or look like and judge them by movies. To a normal person this looks as real as it gets.

    • @KhronosStudios
      @KhronosStudios 9 лет назад +8

      ***** Um, but..,... the flares are taken from real guns..... I know you like to explain things and you're completely right... But the flares are that big lol... They are filmed from REAL guns shooting against a black background....

      although cheap, that app isnt the best to use when going for realism. i used to use that back in the day before i got into after effects. remember to do the things that freddie said, the flash should interact with the scene. gun movie effects cannot achive that. also gun movie effects only has a few different types of flashes all with the same sound which doesnt create any variation. if you dont have the money to spend on after effects, there is a pretty good free software called hitfilm express. the full version with extra features costs money but for a starting filmaker, hitfilm express should suffice. finally, although gun movie effects works if youre just messing around and wanna make a movie, you should get into actual softwares like hitfilm express and after effects if you want to truly learn to become a filmaker.

    Both of them are correct, at the time of this video they used FInal Cut Pro for the actual edit and After Effects for any VFX work. They have moved on from there and use Premiere pro for editing and a combination of After Effects and 3DS MAX for VFX. But the whole point of this video and the things Freddie teaches is that there is no need for super expensive programs, that doesn't equal quality.

    I haven't used iMovie in nearly 2 years but I'm almost certain you can't do this in it. iMovie is a lot more basic. I'm pretty sure it doesn't have compositing modes (the blending to screen thing he did in the video) or the masking abilities in it. If I'm wrong someone will correct me here. Once you are used to iMovie I would suggest trying out Final cut pro. It's the next step up. Or else Sony Vegas or Adobe Premier pro. Both very good too.

    Are you talking about the blowback (the slide on top of the gun sliding back)?
    You'll have to keyframe it if you don't own a gass blowback airsoft gun.
    Andrew Kramer (Video Copilot) has a very nice tutorial for this.

    Everyone needs to realize that Freddie's muzzle flashes are unrealistic. He said it himself. And I agree with some of the people on here saying that there is rarely a muzzle flash when shooting a gun. Trust me, there aren't as many flashes as Freddie puts in his vids. Muzzle flashes are particularly rare and look different every time.

    Freddie doesn't realize that NCCINEMA updated there gun pack so the link in the description is for the HD gun pack but the one he uses is GUNDV which nccinema do not sell anymore sadly.

    I figured it out. You just have to make sure that the layer with the effect on it is on the top :)

    No, I meant about the sliding slider over the gun which you use to put bullet into the barrel. How do you slide that..??
    Manually by using a gun that has that function or through editing software??

  • @MrFaundoo

    one problem with going off of what the flashes look like in the movies is that movies usually use blanks when shooting the guns for their scenes. which are just cartridges that have no actual bullet in them. Blanks don't generate nearly as much recoil as actual rounds do, and the muzzle flash is generally A LOT bigger with blanks than actual rounds. When shooting firearms for real, especially in the day time, you can barley even tell that there is a muzzle flash, you can barley see it.

    What's the next best editing software that does just as great a job as After Effects...and is affordable for the average Joe? I saw the ending list of alternatives but I don't want a cheap looking effect that no one will believe is realistic enough.

    If I don't have a blow back type of air-soft pistol, how can I make the slide blow back? I know he said in Photoshop, but how? Thanks in advance! And other than that, great video!

    I'm pretty sure that was the Red Epic. One of the most expensive cameras in the world. And Freddie does not own it, he borrowed it from a friend. Plus the red epic is mainly used for SUPER slow mo's!

    Hey Jeff. If I were you I would look into a program called "HitFilm 2" its a great VFX software that not as expensive as Adobe After Effects. it is capable of doing allot of cool vfx including built in Muzzle flashes to make your effects editing much faster. a particle simulator engine for making cool fire balls and tornadoes and stuff. it also allows you to import and do basic animations with 3d models like helicopter blades and so on.
    hope I have helped :)

    So how would this be done with an automatic machine gun? I hope there is some kind of strobe option in Sony Vegas because I would hate to put tons of individual muzzle flare instances in.

  • @papercutstudioz

    i use corel videostudio pro. i bet not allot of people use that for muzzle flares. but it works kinda the same way
