Hey everyone, It's Jean! 🙌 I took on the job to curate Trap Nation in 2019. Taking on a channel that's not growing but declining is quite the challenge, with the channel's most viewed videos from 2015 slowly gaining fewer views and new videos performing on average 1/10 of how they did a few years ago. Due to those challenges, 2020 was quite an insightful year. I've been trying to figure out what I can do to make the channel start evolving. I've attempted to support what many fans call "Classic Trap from 2015" or "Real Trap shit," but no matter what I tried, it performed the same or worse. Whether it was TroyBoi or Crankdat, they wouldn't perform the same way they would back in the day. It seemed like the Trap season has passed, and people moved on to genres like Deep House and Brazillian Bass.🤷♂️ I tried supporting continuous days of Hardwave, which felt unique and new, but ultimately they performed the same as the trappier stuff. No matter which genre or style I've focused on, it all performed the same. Then I've started uploading Skeler. Every remix of his would reach 1M views in less than a few weeks. Skeler's performance taught me that growth has nothing to do with genres, styles, or mood. They have to do with communities and fans. Suppose I find an artist with a community of his own that appreciates him and follows him wherever he goes, or one with the ability to connect to my own community and turn them into fans, with genuine talent and real hype. In that case, he'll perform well on the channel! I need to keep pushing and finding this new generation of artists who'll represent Trap Nation for the next few years. My New Year resolves to find them and turn them into our community representatives. I want to interact with you in the comments, something I did not do for most of last year. I want to launch merch collections with artists. Grow our live-stream and give you new content. Growth is inevitable.
