Many followers do not understand this concept including christians. What you explain here is crystal clear thru the usage of scriptures. When u believe in Jesus you will also follow the commandments. We can never be holy by ourselves or by our works alone. We need Jesus❤

How can you say we throw out the 10 commandments out of the window thats heresy. My goodness gracious! Jesus never said he come to abolish the law. He come to fullfill it. @thomascollison9879 please try to understand what i wrote. SALVATION IS GIVEN TO US BY GRACE. PERIOD. FULLSTOP. OK? GOT IT?
SECONDLY, When we follow Jesus we WANT to follow the 10 commandments. Notice the word "WANT". It doesnt mean "HAVE TO" That's our guide, our framework for living in this world. HOLY SPIRIT WILL GUIDE US in this. So for you to say we do away with the 10 commandments is wrong. We are still keeping it. But not for the sake of salvation. Of course the 10 commandments is just a guide . The holy spirit will lead us and convict us if we do something morally wrong but its not in the commandments

1:03 James 2:14-26 14 “What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe-and shudder! Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”-and he was called a friend of God. You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.”
Jesus did 100% of the work to take upon Himself the punishment for every sin of every human on Earth, past, present, and future, but it takes more than proclaiming faith to be saved. Baptism is the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit. It removes the stain of original sin through Christ. It is an external action, that Christ ordered all to do, that they may be saved. If you love Christ, you’ll keep His commandments, as He said. However, in addition to Baptism, we must continue following the commandments. Humans, even after baptism, still sin, and actively choose to. The other sacraments are extensions of God’s grace to Christians after Baptism when they have not kept the commandments, or are able to pursue them more deeply.
The peace and love of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

  • @brandonsmith2172

I’d like to argue for the position. Faith saves us and works sanctifies us. I don’t disagree with you about how grace is a free gift but put it this way.
Jesus made remarks about lukewarm Christians Revelation 3:16 for example or Mathew 7:23. As Christians we can’t merely call on the name of Jesus and then live however we want. There are some people that believe this like Jehovah’s Witnesses or with the doctrine of Universal reconciliation. Some Christians believe that simply calling the name in faith is enough and you can sin till you die. But obviously that is not true so works go hand in hand with faith.
If the default state is unsaved, by calling on Jesus you then move from unsaved to saved and you stay in that state with repentance which isn’t a one time thing but a journey and therefore good works. However let’s go back to unsaved, if your goal is to just do good works then obviously thats not gonna work because you are still being punished for your sins. You need Jesus to save you, you need grace.
So what i’m saying is, Jesus saves you and repentance keeps you saved and thats works. Because if you call on the name and just sin, you effectively deny Jesus and Jesus will deny you in front of the Father.
And as for baptism the Bible makes it clear to be baptized but i don’t believe that’s what actually saves us obviously.
And for the last point, God is a just and merciful God. Catholics do have 100% faith in Jesus so i doubt that in the afterlife Jesus will deny his actual believers who aren’t lukewarm and who actually followed his commands. Here i’m not saying other denominations are not true believers but i’m merely pointing out that if you trust Christ 100% and you believe that Repentance is needed like i do then i dont see how God is gonna punish us for that. He commands us to repent.

In Ephesians 2, Paul said salvation is by grace through faith.
Philippians 2, Paul said that you have to work out your salvation with fear and trembling.
Was Paul contradicting himself? Read these 2 chapters for yourselves and ask whether Paul was talking about 2 different matters all together?
Salvation could mean 3 topics; justification, sanctification and glorification.
In Ephesians 2, Paul was talking about justification by faith alone.
In Philippians 2, Paul was talking about becoming a good steward of Christ by doing good work for sanctification.
In 1 Corinthians 3, Paul was talking about the glorification in the day of the Lord. That is to enter the kingdom with or without being awarded with that inheritance.
In 1 Corinthians 3:15, Paul said that even for those who did not do any good work during our entire life on earth, they shall still enter the kingdom, but they will forfeit all the great rewards that they could have received. Paul was addressing those believers in Corinth, which was given that they already had faith in our Lord Jesus.
Noticed that in 1 Corinthians 3:8, Paul explained that both himself and Apollo had only one purpose to do good work to receive the good rewards.

You can't look in faith to Jesus and the waters of baptism at the same time... they happened at different points in history and involved different people. It's illogical to think that someone can trust in their own baptism for salvation and yet still say they're looking at the cross... a person can only look at one place at one time. You are either looking in faith to when Jesus declared it is finished or you are looking in faith to your baptism. You can't do both at the same time. Jesus specifically states here that it is unbelief that will cause condemnation. Baptism is not a means of being saved only belief which is precisely the point Jesus is making in that statement.

The thief that died next to Jesus didn’t have time to get baptized or go do good works and yet he was saved because he believed in Jesus and he was sincere. He repented. Not true, what those scriptures indicate, is that any who've commited these sins will not make it, covering a huge array of multiple sins trying to show us that NONE of us will make it in through works/being under the law. We have to start looking at the bible in the context it deserves. We suck, we don't deserve salvation, but Jesus gives it anyway (bc He is love) to ANYONE who has faith in Him. Including all the fornicators adulterers etc. If you die without faith in the son of God, Jesus, you go to hell, NOTHING else will send you there. Do you honestly think someone who is a "little white liar"/ or lives a 'holier' life than most is going to heaven but someone who struggles with a sin yet has faith in Jesus isnt??? No no no. This is why works based salvation is a no go. If you put yourself back under the law to be judged, then that's how you'll be judged. You will live more holy on accident than doing it to try to please God, God looks at our goodness as dirty filthy rags. That is not something I want to present to the King of Kings. "Who wants to be the best sinner that ever went to hell?" I fear it is you that will be in for a shock.
I just a month ago was under these same assumptions but God freed me from legalism, it's not healthy for your own being & it keeps people from the true grace of God.

I am a Roman Catholic, as I understand Faith is Believing with Obedience. .You can Believe someone without Obedience but You can not be an Obedient if you are not a Believer.....GOD's 10 commandments , forgive your enemies, help those who are needy, was taught by our LORD JESUS.... If I only say I believe Him but not doing his commandments is merely a promise not a commitment. there is a difference between Forgiveness and Reward....LORD JESUS 100% had a gift thru His Crucifixion forgiving us all for our original sins, and in order for us to maintain in holiness we must be obedient to GOD's commandment and that Roman Catholic name it LOVE and sacrifice not good works. and for the LOVE that we had done for his people JESUS had reward called Heaven......Please Do note that there are requirements in order for us to go to heaven........people are going to hell because of their works not because they have faith in hell,,,,,,,,When JESUS said to the thief of the cross ,,,now you will be with me in paradise of course he will......HE is GOD he can do whatever he wants, but he had rules how to get to heaven,,,,,JESUS forgive millions of people from their sin thru healing but what did JESUS say sin no more not now you will be with me in paradise,,,,,,,as JESUS said be perfect as GOD our father is perfect..... ....As JESUS said only GOD can do it to someone to go heaven...but maintaining to be holy as a life of JESUS thats the requirement to go to heaven.....GOD is LOVE itself but thru HIS SON JESUS CHRIST who sacrifice is the ONLY WAY, THE TRUTH and THE LIFE.......... In Roman Catholic we have a saying LOVE WITHOUT SACRIFICE is nothing....GOD BLESS!

Yo man you got a very relaxing voice ahah. But you should read the rest of what the catechism says and the rest of Catholic soteriology. It’s not so simple cause there are so many factors. You you are saved by faith yes, but it’s not faith alone! The Bible says it’s not by faith alone. There are many verses that say you need to love and have forgiveness and have works. The works show that your faith is real. Faith without works isn’t real. It won’t save you. Faith in the Bible is always described as something someone did that showed there true belief and trust in God. Also there are many factors when it comes to salvation like the persons ability to understand what they are doing could be faulty, baby’s can’t be accountable, maybe someone who is in mortal sin at the end of yhere life, (the sin it tells us not to pray for) the fully knowing deliberate rejection of God. There’s just so much that goes into it. Also there are 4 different types of works that are referred to when the Bible talks about works. Sometimes it’s works of the OT law, sometimes it’s works of righteous , sometimes it’s works of evil. So you gotta be careful when you just read a few verses out of proper meaning and context.

So, what does the bible say about baptism? In Col 2 :12 it says, " You were buried with Jesus in baptism, in which you were also raised with him THROUGH FAITH IN THE WORKING OF GOD.......God made ALIVE TOGETHER WITH HIM, having forgiven us all our trespasses". So, you are raised up in baptism through faith and God works on you, he makes us alive and forgives us of all our trespasses.
Gal 3:26-27 " For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God through faith. For as many of you as were BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST HAVE PUT ON CHRIST". So, we are made sons of God through faith when we have been baptized into Christ, when we put on Christ.
Romans 6:3 " all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death, were buried with him in baptism.......we too might walk in newness of life.......We know that our old self was crucified with Jesus so that the SINFUL BODY MIGHT BE DESTROYED and we might no longer be enslaved to sin. For he who died is freed from sin". So in baptism, we are raised to walk in newness of life, our sinful body is destroyed and we are freed from sin
This goes with Acts 2:38 where Peter says, " Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins" and as you keep reading it says that those who received the word were baptized and the Lord added them to the saved, v41&v47.
In Romans 3:27 it says that boasting is excluded through the law of faith, baptism is of the law of faith, scriptures above prove it. So, there is no boasting when one is baptized and is not part of the works mention in Eph 2:8-9. The works there are works of the law, not works of faith. We are saved by faith, an obedient faith, not a dead faith and we become children of God when we are baptized into Christ, when we put him on.

The Catholic Church sees works as the confirmation of your faith. If you don't have works, then you don't have faith. You can't have faith and remain the way you were, you have to keep the commandments and when you fail to follow them you can lose your salvation. You cannot have faith in Jesus and reject his teaching. As Christian you have to believe in Jesus, be baptised (at least desire it), and keep His teachings. You cannot cherrypick what you want to believe either. You cannot believe in Jesus and remain practicing abomination as you can find in modern churches, these people aren't going to be saved just for believing in Jesus.
"Being “just” simply means being with Christ and in Christ. And this suffices. Further observances are no longer necessary. For this reason Luther’s phrase: “faith alone” is true, if it is not opposed to faith in charity, in love. Faith is looking at Christ, entrusting oneself to Christ, being united to Christ, conformed to Christ, to his life. And the form, the life of Christ, is love; hence to believe is to conform to Christ and to enter into his love. So it is that in the Letter to the Galatians in which he primarily developed his teaching on justification St Paul speaks of faith that works through love"
    - Pope Benedict XVI, Wednesday Audience, 19th November 2008
I really think Faith Alone and Faith through Works are just matter of semantics. In the end they both talk about the same thing.

To go against good works is the opposite. Reread the Sermon on the Mount and follow Jesus.

    1. john 3:5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.(meaning baptism i guess)
    2. john 6 53-54 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
    (eucharistia i guess)
so in this 2 verses it says that you need to get baptized by the water and by the holy spirit to go to heaven and you need to participate in eucharistia in church meaning eat his flesh/bread and his blood/wine to go to heaven.

      There is a difference.
When you are saved (by confessing Jesus is Lord and rose on the third day), you are called to be baptized to be born again and keep the eucharist in rememberance of Jesus.
So every Christian ought to do that. However, if someone confesses Jesus is Lord and died 1 minute later. He is still saved. How do we know that? Look at the thief on the cross.
Jesus didn't say to him: "wait, first you need to get baptized" or "wait, first you need to do the eucharist."
But when you are saved. You are called to do these things.
Now on the other hand, good works don't save you. Because the good things you do cannot cancel the bad you did. It's just by the mercy, love and grace of God that you are saved.
So even though you are called to get baptized and observe the eucharist, it doesn't save you. Grace through faith does.

I’m by no means arguing with you but I want to make this distinction for those who might be confused.
Jesus says that if we love him, we will obey him. Paul often speaks of hope, and faith.
But, for whatever reason, faith in our culture has taken the spot of hope in its biblical definition. You see, we look at faith nowadays as belief. It is belief, but it’s much more than that. Hope is used as a wish in these days. “I hope this happens” “I hope you aren’t mad at me”
When in the Bible, hope is belief that something will take place and the hope is your expectation of the event. You look forward with hope.
Faith is not just belief, even the demons believe but do they have faith? It is impossible to please God without faith, do demons please God by believing what he says? No. Hope is belief, faith is an action word. It is a lifestyle, it is the actions of a person which are the manifestation of their belief. We know from the book of Hebrews that we learn obedience through suffering, and we know from the book of James that we grow in faith by being joyful through trials and temptations. So, faith is belief in what God says and who he is, and therefore obeying him because you believe. Love, also, is obedience. If we remain in him (Jesus) and his Word remains in us (literally, his words, what he has said to us, what he has told us to do), we will produce much fruit. In this same way, “Faith without works is dead”
So if you are obedient, if you love God, have faith, your connection to him is strong and you will produce fruit, you will have works which flow through you because of your love. It is not works which save you, it is God which saves you, but salvation isn’t the end goal here. He didn’t just die to get you into heaven. He doesn’t want us to take the gift and hide it away because we’re afraid to go out and share it and multiply it (parable of the seeds sown among different types of soil, and the parable of the talents), that’s selfish to keep this thing to yourself. He died to clean you, yes, he died also to give you newness of life. He does tell us in his word to be baptized, so just be obedient and do it, it’s not the baptism that saves you, it’s obedience and faith (grace through faith). He has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. So let’s get out there and stop being afraid to share this message guys. We must crucify our flesh, so we can live above reproach, so we can go and preach this thing. Be like Jesus. We’re all in it together, let’s encourage one another.

I’m not Catholic btw, I don’t go by labels apart from follower of Jesus. I do go to church. Interestingly, they’re a baptist church but they do not even acknowledge that, they want to get rid of that title because they just love obeying God and don’t want to label themselves (remember that sects are a work of the flesh, we are all one body in Christ)

    *sigh*
You are saved by grace *through* faith. Faith is the mechanism God gave you by which you can be saved. It is not empty and dead as mere belief in God, rather it is active and fruitful through good works.
For reference, read the book of James and anywhere in the gospels where Jesus says repeatedly that unfruitful people will be cut off and thrown into the fire.

John 3:5 tells you baptism (which is what being born again is - cf 1 Peter 3:21) is necessary for salvation. This is initial justification, and requires no works. If you died immediately after baptism, you would go to Heaven.
However works do play a role in the salvation of those who continue living. Ephesians talks about the works of the law and how one cannot earn Heaven by works (cf Romans 3:20). We don't think you earn Heaven. Salvation is a grace, a free gift. However, works are still necessary for justification as James 2:24 says (note: not that just a certain kind of faith is necessary, but works also). The Catechism explains that all our merits are due to God. That is to say, He is the source of good works in us. While all our own works are as filthy rags, not so with those we do with Christ living in us. See also Philippians 2:12. The free gift must be accepted as you point out, and it takes self-denial and fighting our concupiscence to do that.
The Bible says that good works are how we "make sure" our election and calling in 2 Peter 1:10-12. That you can lose salvation is evident from many Jesus' parables (in the parable of the sower - the thorns, from the parable of the fig tree, the "I never knew you" etc.) and in Romans 11:23 and in 1 Corinthians 9:27.
I trust that Jesus has done and is capable to do in me, everything needed to get into Heaven and that His blood can always wash away my sin - if I repent, turn away - in confession. "Once saved always saved" is a confusion. Justification is not a one time thing. You cannot become like a demon after having fallen of (oh btw, Hebrews 10:26) and expect to be saved. You actually need to be transformed by Christ, deny yourself, pick up your cross and follow Him.
This is a serious thing that you don't want to get wrong: You put faith into Christ actually making you holy, not in Him pulling a fast one on the Father. Nothing unclean shall enter heaven (Revelation 21:27).

We can be saved but whats the assurance we'll get to heaven when everyday we are in state of mortal sins. The Sacraments is the gift of God which helps us draw closer to him live holy, and assure salvation. That is only in the Catholic Church, not in any denominational Church.

I find it hard to want to bring a Christian from one denomination to another. I understand the beliefs may not align but to believe your faith is the correct interpretation of Jesus’ word and any others are flawed or false feels sorta contradictory in itself. He says to the Catholic to not see it as defending what he believes in before (even if he currently believes in Catholicism), but I believe if the Catholic were to try to convert the Protestant to his denomination he would have reason as well to defend the beliefs he currently abides by. To ask someone to go as far as to simply shed their previous knowledge of Catholic Christianity and to accept Protestant Christianity is hard to find the logic in. I’m a firm believer of passing the word along and appreciating all forms of belief in the higher power but to simply shed what you believe and change denominations is a hard ask for many believers. Otherwise what would it matter to convert him to Protestant when he could just as easily be brought back into Catholicism or any other denomination or religion?

When you use the book of james to say that a real saving faith will always bring good work i see your point and i agree that a saving believer will have a change of heart and will want to do good , but yielding to the flesh can still happen after being born again, if you believe that true saving faith will always work then it contradict the verse that you used next (romans 4:5), where he says that the one that does 0 work but still believe is saved, why would he says that if a true saving faith will always bring good work? In the grace period that we are in there is no jew nor gentile in the Body of Christ, so why would james in his book adress the book to the 12 tribes of Israel in james 1:1? Because the book is about Jew in the tribulation, when the Body of Christ will be raptured out, the tribulation will come and God will focus again on Israel, we need to understand that this is the first reason why Jesus came on earth, bring the promised earthly kingdom to Israel prophetised in the old testament, but Israel rejected the messiah so God postponed this earthly kingdom, remember God promised it so it will 100% come eventually, but now because of Israel rejection God as opened the period of grace that we are in today, that was the 2rd reason Jesus came here on earth, to die for the sins of the whole world and rose again the third day, to create His bride, that everyone that believe in the work of Christ will be saved and be part of His Body, but when His bride will be raptured, then he will go back to Israel, which was the first reason he came on earth last time. And we know that in the tribulation not taking the mark of the beast will be a work, because without it, it will be impossible to buy food, so resisting the mark will be hard, thats why James insist on good work and to be kind and helping towards other.
    Romans 11:11
11 I say then, Have they stumbled(Israel) that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.

People are so consumed with people's outward appearance & not the heart or relationship an individual has with Jesus. Foolishness bc all of us fall short to the glory of God. Does this mean Christ advocates for sin? Certainly not! It means we do good works bc He LOVES us & so His will can fully manifest in our lives, NOT to get Him to love us or let us into heaven. That is what we call grace.🩷 So glad to see another fighting back against faith + works doctrine, there's not many left anymore.🫤 It's either all tolerance for everything or you must be better to keep salvation, neither are correct & keep us from the true gospel, such a shame!💔

Using the op example, if a child rapist happen to TRULY believe JESUS AS HIS Lord and Savior and he dies on the same day, he will go to Heaven.
Requiring good works in salvation shows we can somehow earn salvation through our work. No matter how long, we as humans, will not ever get to perfection. And perfection is the standard and there is only one person that meet that standard. Jesus

    Question:
Why does the Roman Catholic Church teach the doctrine of "works righteousness," that through good works one can earn salvation?
    Answer:
The Catholic Church has never taught such a doctrine and, in fact, has constantly condemned the notion that men can earn or merit salvation. Catholic soteriology (salvation theology) is rooted in apostolic Tradition and Scripture and says that it is only by God’s grace-completely unmerited by works-that one is saved.

    • @gda86pl
      @gda86pl 5 месяцев назад

The Church teaches that it’s God’s grace from beginning to end which justifies, sanctifies, and saves us. As Paul explains in Philippians 2:13, “God is the one, who, for his good purpose, works in you both to desire and to work.”
Notice that Paul’s words presuppose that the faithful Christian is not just desiring to be righteous, but is actively working toward it. This is the second half of the justification equation, and Protestants either miss or ignore it.
James 2:17 reminds us that “faith of itself, if it does not have work, is dead.” In verse 24 James says, “See how a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.” And later: “For just as a body without a spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead” (2:26).
The Council of Trent harmonizes the necessity of grace and works: “If anyone says that man can be justified before God by his own works, whether done by his own natural powers or by the teaching of the Law, without divine grace through Jesus Christ, let him be anathema” (Session 6; can. 1).

    • @gda86pl
      @gda86pl 5 месяцев назад

The Council fathers continued by saying, “If anyone says that the sinner is justified by faith alone, meaning that nothing else is required to cooperate in order to obtain the grace of justification and that it is not in any way necessary that he be prepared and disposed by the action of his own will, let him be anathema” (Session 6: can. 9).
By the way, “let him be anathema” means “let him be excommunicated,” not “let him be cursed to hell.” The phrase was used in conciliar documents in a technical, theological sense, not in the same sense as the word “anathema” is found in Scripture. Don’t let “Bible Christians” throw you for a loop on this one.
So, far from teaching a doctrine of “works righteousness” (that would be Pelagianism, which was condemned at the Council of Carthage in A.D. 418), the Catholic Church teaches the true, biblical doctrine of justification.

what gives you to heaven by jesus is serving Gods commandments the god of jesus mine and yours, well these verses might enlighten you all christians trying to evade anyways here it is with quran backing it, big shame on catholics and other christians to withold what jesus said directly and warned you might go to hell if you dont follow jesus saying in other words serve Gods commandments:
    Matthew 4:109
10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written:
‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’[a
    Matthew 7:21
    Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven;
but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

"I am God; there is no other god beside Me.
You shall worship Me alone, and observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) to remember Me.
    Quran 51:56
I did not create the jinns and the humans except to worship Me alone.
    quran sura fatir 35:36
As for the disbelievers, they will have the Fire of Hell,
where they will not be ˹allowed to be˺ finished by death, nor will its torment be lightened for them.
This is how We reward every ˹stubborn˺ disbeliever.
    quran maedah 5:116
And ˹on Judgment Day˺ Allah will say,
“O Jesus, son of Mary! Did you ever ask the people to worship you and your mother as gods besides Allah?”
He will answer, “Glory be to You! How could I ever say what I had no right to say?
If I had said such a thing, you would have certainly known it.
You know what is ˹hidden˺ within me, but I do not know what is within You.
Indeed, You ˹alone˺ are the Knower of all unseen.
    quran maedah 5:117
I never told them anything except what You ordered me to say:
“Worship Allah-my Lord and your Lord!”
And I was witness over them as long as I remained among them.
But when You took me,1 You were the Witness over them-and You are a Witness over all things.
so in the end yes we muslims follow jesus, it is that most christians dont follow jesus as they say jesus is god and god is jesus so worship jesus or something like that, and they also say jesus died for our sins so we dont have to worship while jesus said worship god and serve him only in bible, and in quran it says jesus saying worship allah my lord and your lord almost same except for that christians might removed things from what jesus said and added "and serve him only" serving God only is bit harsh but if christians believe it well good luck they all be monks and not allowed to serve others like a job,...

Until all of a sudden a calm voice in the center of my body told me ‘just persevere’. It was the most beautiful calm strong voice I heard in my whole live. All voices left immediately. Gone. I got baptized that day! The voice was Jesus. He also saved me literally from suicide 6 months before. He intervened.

I disagree. Only believing in Jesus is not enough. In order to be saved, you MUST be born again (John 3:3) and BECOME like Jesus. The more you become like Jesus, good works will follow naturally. If there are no good works, you are not him and get rejected (Mathew 7:23)

Faith AND good works does help, because the Bible calls us to do good works in His name (Eph 2:10, James 2:14-17, Galatians 6:9-10, 1 Peter 2:12).
It's not necessarily that only good works saves you, it's when you get the opportunity to. If it were not that case, then a Christian can just be a devout believer yet show nothing for his faith. It's the same case for baptism too, if you get the opportunity to, then do it.
    God bless, brother.

Your statement implies a work based salvation. I reccomend going back through the letters specially Galatians with Andrew Wommack (or another teacher, just NOT another catholic priest or someone that follows work based salvation, find someone who doesn't line up with your interpretation of scripture) bc I can guarantee, you are missing the main point, especially in Galatians. I just a month ago was where you are, don't stay there, going back under the law is rechaining yourself from the freedom bought through Christ! There is so much freedom on the other side, you'll find yourself doing works naturally & not bc you are looking to please God or to stay in His good graces bc unfortunately ...we can't. Our good works are like a filthy rag to God. Does this mean Christ advocates for sin? Certainly not! But what it does mean, is if you continue to put yourself back under the law/trying to please God by works, you won't make it. Perfect example is when Paul scolds the Galatians, they did have "faith" in Jesus, however they were also adding works to the salvation process, ergo "perverting the gospel" which is a BIG NO. These things I've said are scripture, bc who really cares what I personally think or say, let everything I have said here be found in scripture! Any of us can string along scripture to fit our perceived theology, it's important to step back & see the big picture. Jesus had to come bc we could never measure up or redeem ourselves back to the Father. Legalism is what tied up the Jews from accepting their Messiah & it's what's tying up our churches, we must stop this!!!

History shows us that Jesus didn't leave us a bible, the apostles didn't tell us which books belong in the bible, the church fathers never agreed on the 27 books of the NT through the 4th century, not only did they not agree but their individual lists of would-be NT canons were GROWING during this time, growing in numbers of hundreds of “inspired” NT writings. So, if it wasn't the Catholic/Orthodox church that compiled the 27 books of the NT in the 5th century with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and preserved it by laboriously hand copying them over and over throughout the centuries before the invention of the printing press, the “rule of faith” for many, please tell us, show us, who did? Scripture says that God saves us or we are saved by grace through faith (Eph. 2:8) AND through sanctification (2 Th. 2:13). Salvation, according to Scripture, is a process and is NOT by faith alone. Faith is gift from God - we neither have to be good person nor do something to have the free gift of faith from God (Rom. 4:5). How about Baptism? Scripture says in 1 Pe. 3:21 that Baptism saves you. How about Commandments? Jesus said in Luk. 10:28 "did this [commandments] and you will live". The commandments we have to do is loving another. Before we can love God we must first love one another (1 John 4:20). Paul wrote in Rom. 13:8-10 and Gal. 5:14 that we fulfill the law by loving one another. Catholics are not required to observe Sabbath, circumcision, dietary and civic laws of the Old Testament. Paul wrote in Rom. 2:13 "the doer of the law will be justified". He would not contradict himself when he wrote "no one is justified by the works of the law" in the same epistle (Rom. 3:20). Paul wrote about natural law (Rom. 2:14), known to Gentiles, because it is written in their hearts (Rom. 2:15). That natural law has no Sabbath observance, no dietary laws etc but it has the same "loving one another".
You follow the teaching of the Reformers that says all your sins (past, present and future), through faith alone, are imputed/counted on Christ whom God already punished for those sins - He did everything for you. Why would God punish righteous Christ for your sins? In human courtroom it will be injustice if a criminal is declared not guilty because his crimes are imputed/counted on other person who is punished for the crimes he did not do. This will make God do abomination according to what it is written in Pro. 17:15: “He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous are both alike an abomination to the LORD.”

"Pro. 17:15: “He who justifies the wicked"
Sinful man cannot do that do justly, but God can and does:

However, to the one who does not work,
but believes in Him who justifies the wicked,
his faith is credited as righteousness.

We all have to put our faith in Jesus. He died for our past and future sins. And when we believe in Jesus, the man who taught us many great lessons, healed and raised people from the dead, we people shall sin less and less. Because why are we going to do the wrong things over and over again if someone got in trouble with it?

      Warning Concerning Antichrists
[18] Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour. [19] They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us. [20] But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge. [21] I write to you, not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth. [22] Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son.
So your claim is that John 2:19 has nothing to do with the verses before and after it?
[20] But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge.
Compares those that went out, with those to whom John is writing, inferring that those that went out are not anointed by the Holy One.
[21] I write to you, not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth. [22] Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son.
Again, in context, John is referring to those that went out as liars that are antichrists, because the deny that Jesus is the Christ.
      1 John 2:24-29
[24] Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you too will abide in the Son and in the Father. [25] And this is the promise that he made to us-eternal life.
So, keeping what they heard, the faith that Jesus is the Christ, Son of the Father, is what ensures that they will receive the promise of eternal life?
[26] I write these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you. [27] But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie-just as it has taught you, abide in him.
The Holy Spirit is what gives one knowledge of the truth.
[28] And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming. [29] If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.
So, practicing righteousness is evidence of one’s salvation, not the source of one’s salvation.

@Christusregna be careful not to slander your brothers. I know many Calvinists. None believe a person who continues to practice sin, and does not repent, has saving grace.
No one I know believes in “fluffy Jesus”.
We just don’t believe that practicing righteousness is the source of one’s salvation. We believe this because the Scriptures say as much over and over.
Salvation is received by grace, the source, through faith, that is evidenced by works.
A faith not accompanied by works is a sign of a dead faith, although no one’s walk is the same. That is why we encourage each other and help each other in our walk.
