  • First look at all new Alpine models for 2022 at the GoFast Mobile Expo 2022. Check out the all new Alpine iLX-F511, iLX-F509, iLX-507 and i509-WRA-JL featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual USB ports, optional GPS navigation with on road and off road maps plus a TON of audio control features AND high resolution audio playback. Did I mention these models now feature two composite camera inputs? My co-worker Victoria and I took a day off to go to the GoFast Mobile Expo 2022 to see new products, attend manufacturer training and we also got to meet Dean and Fernando! We had a great time. Big thank you to all the vendors and to everyone at GoFast Solutions. Special thank you to Colin Vargo at Alpine for patiently answering all my questions and to Dean and Fernando for taking time out of their busy day to chat with us. It was so nice to meet you guys!

    I'm confused the manual says the primary input for Android is 2.4 amps and that the other cord is charge only at 1.5 amps it could just be a typo in the manual

      Good point, I see that too. I'll have to follow up with them to clarify. What I've heard from some manufacturers regarding the USB charging is that they really need to move over to USB C in order to increase charge capacity, but maybe Alpine's figured it out.

      Followed up with Alpine today - the Android Auto/Apple CarPlay (USB 1) port is 1.5 amps. The secondary USB port is the 2.4 amp! I don't think this info was available at the time of the training because I do remember asking the question.

      One big time bummer that Carstereochick pointed out...Alpine in its infinite wisdom only has one usb port that reads data (other is charging only per manual/cust service) and that seems like the only port the add-on nav can connect to...so unless Alpine has devised a pass through usb port on the nav add on itself the nav add on will take up the only data usb port on these new units...very disappointing when Kenwood/JVC/Pioneer all offer units with 2 usb data ports!

    • @carstereochick
      @carstereochick  2 года назад +1

      Great questions. They do have a display off option, EDIT: which appears to include the lower buttons too. They all have an aux input so if your RSE has its own DVD player and audio output, that could be piped in to the front unit. Or if you want to go A/V out from the in dash receiver, they all have an HDMI input and HDMI output. If your rear monitors have HDMI input, you could utilize that feature.
      Also that aux input, you can use a 4 pole 3.5 A/V adapter to do video in as well.

      Both will read data so you can load up a thumb drive with FLAC files for example for USB 2. Or if you want to add the optional GPS navigation, that will have to connect to USB 2.

      So in theory, you could plug in the alpine usb nav into usb 2 and a hard drive into the other usb port that I can pass movies through the HDMI out port? Hope I am making sense here, thanka for the reply

    • @carstereochick
      @carstereochick  2 года назад

      Awesome question, but I think the answer might be no. I'd have to verify with Alpine. These units do have an HDMI input and output, but I think the output is more a pass-thru for the HDMI input. I don't think the unit has the ability to take movies from USB in another format and pass thru the HDMI output. I could be wrong.
      You could feasibly have your Alpine navigation on USB 2 and have movies on USB 1 playing through the radio, but depending on the format, I don't know if would support any type of A/V out. It might. Also, I don't know what size device you have and how many files it has on it, but there are usually limits on what the radio can actually read - usually I have a client bring in their portable hard drive or USB thumb drive and we test it prior to moving forward.
      You could also have something playing through HDMI input and pipe that to the HDMI output while having the GPS connected to USB 2.

    • @stevecraig9370
      @stevecraig9370 2 года назад

      Thanks for replying back, I just checked pg 55 of the halo9 manual and it states the following:
      •HDMI pass-through is automatically on: There is no setting that needs to be turned on. • HDMI output is a pass-through only: Audio output though HDMI is not supported. • HDMI Output will pass video through when source is on HDMI In, USB Video and Video content is available. • To play video from a third party streaming device that third party manufacturer may require an adapter to do so.
      This looks like good news...one of the major issues with the HDMI out port of previous Alpine stereos was that they were only compatible with their specific DVD player and would not pass through anything other than that...the manual on the x308 for example was very vague on the hdmi out port capabilities...
      I think you may have answered my biggest question though about both usb ports being able to recognize a hard drive/flash drive...I wish Alpine/Kenwood would take a cue from Pioneer and make their units more media friendly...of the pioneer 8600nex had HDMI out capabilities it would be the perfect unit! Thanks again for your help and replying back!

      The iLX-F509 and iLX-F511 have the larger floating screen compared to the double din iLX-507. Feature wise, as far as I'm aware of, they're the same. BUT I do think the screen quality/responsiveness is better on the 509 & 511. I recently demonstrated that difference briefly in my Wrangler specific review on the i509-WRA-JL. To add to the part # confusion, the Jeep specific i509-WRA-JL has a screen that is more like what you see on the iLX-507. The iLX-F509 & iLX-F511 have a glossier finish and their screen that is more responsive which you can see demonstrated briefly at 1:41 - 1:45: ruclips.net/video/k3zrtSOmI6g/видео.html

    Not a fan of the floating radios cause it gets in the way of the gear shift, stinger has a 10 inch floating touchscreen but also made a flush mount kit for it. It’s a great idea but the stinger radio is trash compared to alpine.

    • @carstereochick
      @carstereochick  2 года назад +2

      They’re definitely not for every car, that’s for sure. Yeah I know all about the Stinger, we have one in our Wrangler with a flush kit. Had the Alpine X409-WRA-JL previously and looking forward to putting in the new i509-WRA-JL. I’ve done my own testing and reviews on the Stinger, it definitely has its drawbacks but I think it’s got some pro’s going for it too. Would love to know what it is about it you dislike compared to the Alpine. The look? The sound? Thanks for watching!

    Kinda disapointed that these screens are still plain old LCD's while our cells phones use OLED and TV's use MicroLED's. If the car audio companies would just use modern tech more people would buy them. I mean comeon a stock Cadillac Escalade has OLED screens. Their was a time when stock car radios were terrible and you must install after market stereos to have good sound and video. Nowadays new cars come stock with high resolution screens and hifi audio. If Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer and Sony would just get with the times or else they will go by the way of the 🦤.

    • @carstereochick
      @carstereochick  2 года назад +4

      It will take awhile before that tech becomes mainstream in car audio. I remember when Pioneer, Kenwood and Alpine came out with their first capacitive touch screens and what a big deal that was. Alpine actually works very closely with the OEM industry. Their parent company, Alps in Japan, specializes in manufacturing electronic parts of vehicles, mobile devices, batteries, healthcare & industrial equipment. Once OLED really starts to hit the new car market, it will eventually trickle out to aftermarket products.
      As far as these companies going anywhere for not staying with times? I've been hearing people say that back when I started in this business - 22 years ago! Our industry is actually experiencing a bit of a boom the past 2 years largely because of how whacked the car market is. As long as there is a chip shortage and car shortage, people will be spending money upgrading their used vehicles to newer stereos with updated features like these Alpine stereos. I don't think they care if their 5 or 10 year old vehicle has an OLED display as long as it has Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
      And as far as the sound quality on newer vehicles? That depends who you ask. We upgrade brand vehicles equipped with the stock "Premium Audio" system all the time. In some makes and models, the sound quality has definitely improved - Audi's Bang & Olufsen for example. In others, it's gone way downhill - like Ford's Bang & Olufsen. We do a lot of upgrades in brand new Ford F-150's as a result. But I hear you, it would be nice to have the same quality display on the radio as we do on our phones. I do understand why they don't - yet ;)

    • @carstereochick
      @carstereochick  2 года назад +1

      Yeah, that's a good point, I'm not sure why either. It might just have to do with where they build these models and what chassis design is pre-existing in the manufacturing process. The iLX-W650 and iLX-407 are built in Korea, I believe the 507, 509 & 511 are from Thailand.
      Agreed, the additional audio control is a great addition!
