That interview where that devs goes "we don't try to make things cool anymore we're more mature" is such a cope to hide how little passion they have left.
That's probably why the new tomb raider games are just a giant mixed bag of other game's mechanics and design decisions, being defined by its lack of originality.🐑
@@outsider8683 Sad but true, and can we just be done with fucking bows in games for a generation or two now XD Shadow's best USP is that the puzzles are actually pretty good this time around, the visuals are rather sexy and that Lara handles (when she isn't spazzing out) near-perfectly when compared to the first 2 Reboot games. I've found every Tomb Raider game since the first one to be disappointing in different ways but rebooting the series into a boring on-rails cover shooter was the worst decision they could have made short of turning it into a concentration camp bestiality simulator. Could be that the fan remake of 2 turns out to be the perfect mix of control and level design that for 25 years has been so frustratingly close but never quite there?
Will you be making a video about the ranking of all main Tomb Raider games? I'm curious where my fave game (TR3) will land! LOL! Definitely not in your top five. But anyway, awesome video mate. I didn't expect this to be long. This shows how passionate you are with the franchise! :)
monkey gods tomb was a nightmare on Deadly Obsession. If there is one mistake I have ever done in my life, it was %100'ing this game on Deadly Obsession on my first playthrough.
I love how the newbies insult us classic TR fans as perverts because of the oversexualization of Lara, not knowing that a good number of classic Lara fans are gays.
fr tho. My first TR games were from the Legend trilogy, and boy was it legendary. Fun exploration, acrobatic move set, and cool outfits. Plus I can totally see Legend Lara being a gay icon, and possibly bisexual herself.
On the high difficulty i enjoyed some of the puzzles and platforming for what they were.. however infuriating was the constant walking talking cutscenes and walking simulator segments... As well as the checkpoints.. they are so frequent as to be laughable.. usually in any platforming section you will literally be placed literally at the point of your last jump or at most the jump before it when you die making it almost feel like there isnt any actual consequence for dying.. reminds me of doom eternal where if u fall down it just re spawns you right where you fell from but eternally and with no final consequence like having to start a sequence all over
This has gotta be the shittiest game in the series, it felt rushed. The characters are boring, the level designs are mostly cut and paste, the enemies are mostly humans or non at all, the skills tree is just a stupid mess. The third hub world is the biggest pain in ass because of the side quests, the size and the fact that you cannot change your outfit.
Image if the producers watch all these reviews and actually make one last game: Tomb Raider: Rise of the Underworld. And it is a good game AND good TOMB RAIDER game.
01:45:01 - I hope you remember this mid-air jump wasn't mentioned anywhere in the game and wasn't required up until this point. I learned about it from others who played the game. So it's not an example of a good game design by any means. I still believe TR2 is the best of five classical TR games though.
I've just finished watching this series and i have to say i agreed with almost everything you said except with something regarding the reboot ( not counting shadow wich sucks). I haven't played every tomb raider but i have played anniversary and underworld, and the reboot trilogy. I feel that the reboot did something right: they had a choice to make, either keep faithful to the formula and please fans or do something more broad and attract new fans. I think the choice they made was the right one. I became a fan with the reboot and it made me also appreciate the older iterations. However i do think they should remake the original trilogy with new looks to allow for new people to get to know the original tomb raider. I do have to say that for me the reboot has two major issues: first there's a clear lack of puzzles and tomb raiding i really missed that and second the change in character. I don't mind the redrawing, she's still hot, just more believable. What I mind is the change of personality. Lara used to be this independent strong quick-witted treasure hunting menace, and now she's just a brainiac baby, i think they could have kept the old personality and just added the intelligence part. In conclusion, in my opinion the reboot allowed for new fans to get to know Lara, but they should had never forgot the old tomb raiders. I hope that in the future they might develop a remake trilogy, keeping the openess and the puzzles, just improving the looks ( and maybe the controls)

Yes it's very wearying but preferable to the inevitable backswing in the other direction
A lot of what's described in gameplay changes is just shit that Uncharted 4 did and that kinda reminds me that nu-Tomb Raider is just Uncharted but worse.
"But if the game is too difficult then no one will buy it!" I've read that argument more times than I should have, because now it makes me wonder what an extremely casual and mainstream gamer considers to be too difficult. You've already covered the difference between "fun challenge" and "annoying challenge" in a different video. I'm referring more to a notion that people are somehow turned away from any gaming experience that punishes mistakes or poor decisions to any degree..
