nice video and excellent explanation of the injector disassembly! stoked to see if the rebuild kit actually works, i got 325xxxKm on my 04 with stock injectors so i guess its time to start saving for a new set or learn how to rebuild them lol
You wouldn’t happen to have made the video of reassembling it would and have the link for the diagram? Trying to rebuild mine or at least clean them because I am changing out my firing solenoids and was already gonna have them out the truck
So, we did remove all 6 injectors...rebuilt them with a kit...re-installed them this morning. Started engine...immediately went runaway...whole thing lasted less than 30 seconds. Engine blown.
Bummer dude. Yeah that's the risk you take messing around with these things. If Internal seals or ball is not seated correctly injector will stick open and cause runaway.
Thank you for sharing. This helps a lot. I had all 6 rebuilt by a specialist a few years back with under 10k miles driven. The damn truck broke down on me when i went camping completely ruined my trip and costed me a bundle for local garage diagnostic and towing both camper and truck home. HORRIBLE expensive experience!!!!! Diagnostic said fuel shaving in fuel system. I am taking apart all injectors and clean them out and so is the CP3 pump. I get it to run then i am going to sell this f. truck. I will never buy another Dodge again and so is any ICE vehicle. I am going with EV from this point on. Expensive fuel, fluid change and the constant maintenance cost just to have it break down when i go on a long trip. Cummins diesel reliability my ASS!!!!!!! i am DONE with ICE vehicles!!!!!!!!!! Seriously with the constant improvement in battery and very low maintenance for EV not mentioning good for the environment and pocket book it is stupid and foolish to buy ICE vehicles. There are no oil, tranny fluid, filter, coolant, muffler, emission craps, etc... to mug around with in EV . Save ton of money over labor and materials and time over the vehicle life with EV vs ICE. I have not mentioned the fun factor in EV yet!!!!!! I know because my wife has the Tesla model 3 since 2020. We are the early adopter. Tesla Cybertruck is my next ride!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone whining about battery longevity and charging station is ignorant and/or too chicken to try out something better or too lazy and closed minded NOT to learn about EV!!!! That is the real world reality. I am sold on EV since the beginning, have Tesla model 3 and also on off grid solar system i built myself from scratch. Solar, wind and other alternative power technologies are the future. Dinosaur dirty fuel time is up. It needs to be extinct as the dinosaurs themselves!!!!!!!!!
me again...that little teflon seal and the damaged washer under it that don't come in the rebuild kit...were you able to order those separately...from REDAT in Florida maybe?
man, that was fast! one more thing (I feel like Columbo)...what is the width of the slot on DIY tool you made to hold the flats of the injector body? Thanks in advance...
Interesting. It explains why the injector shops won't rebuild them...there are too many precise parts that can wear and not work. All the injector shops I have talked to recommend to just buy new...and any injector under $300 is likely rebuilt and also not worth trying. I went cheap on my first replacement, and had to replace 9 injectors to get 6 that worked.
There honestly not bad to build. The problem is with the precise shims they take they need tested to verify they will work. The shims measure very small to the micron so any small change will effect the injector. Been building these for 10 years for work and this injector is actually a fairly easy injector compared to a duramax. They can be bitches.
Hey im about to do this to my injectors I attempted once to take the nozzle off and mine was a 15mm to but the thing was so damn tight I was afraid of stripping it. How did you get yours off? Did you have to heat it up or something?
I tried this on a 7.3 injector and it didnt work out, even with the rebuild kit. The thing is, they still need to be bench tested and its a very precise and finicky thing to mess with. I really dont know how anybody without the correct testing equipment can do this with any amount of certainty.
Good vid, makes me understand why injectors are so damn expensive, how many miles on yer motor and those injectors? Also if you get a chance can you email me how the HP tuners v2 would work or how to load it after I get a 12 valve tune from you, I don’t really know how to set it up like load it in the truck. Thanks
You've been very helpful here! Looking at getting a kit and doing this. I looked for the REDAT exploded view PDF you're using. Any chance you could provide a link...or maybe share the PDF on your Google Drive? Would be much appreciated. I've also got a few automotive based videos on the GADGETS playlist on my channel you might like.
Found the PDF...just had to brush up on my Italian😎 What do you think of getting the oscilloscope profiles (pintle lift and seat times on main event @ idle) of the original injectors as baseline and comparing to overhauled injector profiles once reinstalled? Thanks again for all the info you've provided in this and your other videos.
+Optimal Welding - Here's an example: ruclips.net/video/xd5F954RAFc/видео.html Good to watch Enrique's video in its entirety but most pertinent to our discussion starts @ 14:30
All that would tell me is when the injector is opening and for how long. Something that I can already log using my laptop through the stock ecu. The solenoid in cummins injector has no direct connection to the pintle so you wont notice a current ramp in the same way as your example. There is constant pressure inside injector holding nozzle closed and also trying to push it open. As the solenoid is energized it lifts a ball from its seat causing a leak on one side and allowing fuel pressure to push the nozzle open.
+Optimal Welding - You make a good point here. I'm going to tackle this job in a few weeks. I'll pursue this before and after oscilloscope measurement concept, perhaps modified (eg. First Look on the exhaust), as a way to confirm each injector is contributing. I'll let you know how I make out. Thanks for the input!
Does anyone here know the width across the flats on these injectors? I don't have access to an injector to measure it and make a hold down tool in advance of tackling the injector rebuilds.
If your talking about the armature all you have to do is lift the spring and slide out the big horseshoe and the top smaller horseshoe will come right off. I build these cri's everyday for work
looks like the CR injector somehow gave u a nice CUT on the left finger .. 9:26 no cut .... 9:45 FUCKKKK damnittttttt. yup shit like that happens all the time tome .. thanks for making this teardown , GRESATTTT VEDIO 👍👍👍👍👍👍 try using in ultrasonic cleaner , just that alone has worked miracles
Yeah I've been looking into ultrasonic cleaners but never tried one myself personally, I see they are cheap on amazon but not sure if quality of job they produce is related to how much you spend on one.
I have RCBS brand ..I think it was about $150 US ........ its in the firearm industry .. REALLY anything good enough for gun parts should do well for auto stuff .. trust me you'll use one more then you ever know... I use it for EVERYTHING
This is the best common rail injector breakdown video that I have found! Thanks for sharing...
If you are still having problems with that injector try to check the resistance on the solenoid from post to post, just a suggestion!

U rock sir! My first thought was, can they put more parts into it?
I stopped in to check out your channel as was recommended by my old pal Pug1.
::SUBBED::
Outstanding breakdown 👍👍👍
Great video by the way you shed blood for this thank you God bless u and family
pug1 sent me!! friggin rights
Do you still have that link to the exploded diagram?
Pug sent me! That channel banner truck is badass!
Useful video. But I would like to know where you buy the rebuild kit and a link to the injector diagram.
Great video . do you have the link for the pdf and the rebuil kit

That sucks..
A simple leak test with air would have at least detected a problem

So any idea why it didnt work?
Where do I buy it.
Wheres the link of pdf?
Very helpful, this may help me save some money
Careful any change or tourqe could greatly affect the injector
WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE REBUILD KITS???
I need one
me again...that little teflon seal and the damaged washer under it that don't come in the rebuild kit...were you able to order those separately...from REDAT in Florida maybe?
Both internal seal and washer are included in rebuild kit!

I clean these all the time. 😂 never had to bench test.
Great video very helpful thump up lol do you have a 12valve injector laying around that you could do the same with?
No dont have any 12v injectors but first chance I get to pickup some cores I will.

Truck has like 350km and loading tunes is super easy don't worry about it I'll show you.
Where did you get that diagram?
So intricate.. I can believe 30000 psi goes through that thing
Dude! They use precision tools to work on injectors. You can just fumble your way through just cleaning guessing how it works.
Michael Cuff Fuck what's he got to lose. 500 for a new one. 😎
@@fattmouth7715 his motor when it blows up that’s all lol
You have good info bro, I love this video, I just wish you had a better camera so we can see what your doing better.
