    -------------------------
The theme for the first "dungeon" of the game, the sewers under the futuristic Bearoo City, the game's hub area! Given how even the sewers are full of machinery and electronics, I felt it would be very fitting to try and use mostly electronic instruments, despite that not being my forte - still, I think it turned out quite nice! (though it's mostly thanks to the presets doing the heavy lifting here, which I have mostly obtained from this pack for Vital / 3-years-of-vital-free-... )
    -------------------------
Hunter Chronicles: Tara and Vyn is an indie game inspired by the Mario and Luigi series - primarily developed by me and MaxLos. It's battle system is heavily based off those games, with you controlling two characters at the same time, and timing action commands in tune with their attacks.

Alright, this is the final public track available for me to analyze.
Alright let's start with the intro and HOLY PERCUSSION! I love all the little sound effects and percussion used here. I especially love the use of the FISH instrument. It's that kind of gritty sound that plays throughout the song. I know the instrument has an actual name, but I refer to it as the FISH because at my high school we had one shaped like a fish. Anyways, besides the FISH instrument, we also have what sounds like dripping water, which I'm pretty sure is a woodblock (don't quote me on that). Either way, it really helps give that dank sewer vibes of the sewer music in M&L games. And of course, we can't forget that sick bass guitar. That bass guitar does an amazing job setting the stage for this area, adding the right amount of dreary and also excitement? I mean, I feel like Tara would probably be able to find excitement in exploring a mysterious sewer (ooooo).
Anyways, after a xylophone plays a fun little melody, the drums kick in, and the xylo through this part of the song plays the melody in parts, which kinda gives almost a feeling of "creeping around the sewers" rather than just exploring them. Adds a hint of sneak to the song, which I really like.
However, a violin comes in, and out of the blue we have TECHNO SYNTH? Yes, the beeps and boops have arrived, and man they are banging. I absolutely love the combo of the violin supporting the chord, while the techno synth is jamming out hopping up and down with various notes. It kind of hints at a bit of chaos of sorts, which makes sense since this is the sewers after all, you never know what you'll find down here. I also love the actual water drips that play here too, as they are spaced out just enough that they are still felt, but don't overstay their welcome.
After hearing the glockenspiel a little throughout the end of the previous section, it decides to take center stage and take hold of the melody in the next one. I love this solo part here, as it brings back that mysterious dank sewer vibe from the first part, with sporadic note playing alongside long held notes.
The techno synth comes back, merging with the previous glockenspiel part to create a really cool duet. It then branches off on its own to play a solo by itself, carrying that fervor from before, but with the added triple drop sound. Unlike in the boss theme where the forced church bell reverb kind felt a little off, here it works perfectly as it fits that sewer vibe of there being water dripping throughout your time in these musty sewers.
The glockenspiel comes back for a bit, before out of the blue a piano roles in, turning the melodies of the glockenspiel and techno synth into background melodies. This is actually a really clever move music-wise, as it allows the song to naturally build on itself without other parts getting lost in the track (or lost in the sauce if you know what I mean). Also the piano here is pretty good, just wanted to point that out.
After the piano, a violin joins in to support it, creating a climactic combination of everything heard so far. I love it when songs do this, as it kinda feels like how everything we've heard and seen so far has come together into one place. It combines every part of the sewer: the mystery, the dreariness, the aged walls, the wetness; and merges it all into one place!
The ending to this song is quite perfect as well, as everything gets quiet except for the instrument that is now holding the melody, alongside the drips. I also love how this loops, with the bass guitar returning for one final long note, before going back into the grove from the start.
Overall, this piece was incredible. It had so many layers, some of which seemed like they wouldn't work with each other, but they did. It creates a musty sewer environment that will definitely hook the player into the core gameplay.

So the first dungeon is in the sewers. Are Tara and Vin plumbers like M&L?

They're not, but the story events essentially force them to go there to deal with a monster causing the sewer system to go awry
But yes, originally the sewers were chosen as a first dungeon as a sort of homage to mario and luigi:superstar saga ^^ As the game's plot developed and became more original, we still decided to keep it because we managed to slot it in very nicely into the new story

In the description you say that electronic instruments aren’t your forte. If this statement is true and you made something THIS good. To put it simply, I can’t wait to see what other songs you make! Bravo!

Well, I guess I just meant to say I'm not an electronic producer, haha. Then again, I'm hardly a producer to begin with xD I just pick pre-made instruments and try to make em sound good together
But hey, if you think it sounds that good, then i guess i'm doing something right xD Thank you so much! I'm really glad you like it ^^

I don't know how to describe it, but it reminds me of the whimsy that playing Terraria for the first time gave me. Really good, keep up the excellent work!

Thank you so much! You're not the first one that said that actually, though I never played a spyro game before xD I tried to get somewhat inspired off the Rougeport Sewers theme from TTYD
