As someone who has now involved himself with this game and it's development, I've decided to put my musical knowledge to use and analyze the current tracks available, to leave my thoughts on them, point out their strong points, and maybe point out places of potential improvement in future tracks. This is the first track I'm gonna be looking at. As I've said on Twitter, you can hear the Dream Team and Paper Jam influences in this. The xylophone at the beginning makes for a very strong start, that gives into that silly battle vibe of the M&L games, however it quickly shifts into something unique as soon as the flute comes in, which while the Dream Team battle theme had one (I literally forgot it did, I was more into the Paper Jam battle theme), the flute here definitely hits differently than how it did in that theme, probably because this Flute might be more of Japanese esque one. After the sudden flute appearance, an electric guitar comes in, which actually is strong enough that it makes itself known, but not too strong that it turns the battle theme into some rock and roll song. A very good balance that helps it stick to that silly battle theme. Also props to sneaking in other instruments during the melody, which is something M&L was really good at as well. At 0:47, you can definitely hear the Dream Team/Paper Jam influence here, when the backup instruments drop out and the melody decides to take center stage. Afterwards, that flute comes back in, which makes its unique identity known and turns the song into something more solemn. It's brief, but you slid it in as to not break the flow of the song, something M&L themes were also pretty good at doing. After the flute plays, the background melody starts to kick back in, culminating into a great climax, which is really cool to see! I thought I was listening to an actual M&L song for a second here, which goes to show just how well you guys nailed the format of the M&L battle themes. One last thing I really wanna give props on is the ending. Everything drops out towards the end, leaving just the Xylo, before the beat begins to kick in, and suddenly swings right back into the theme! The loop here was actually really well done, and in fact I would argue it was done better than in any M&L normal battle theme period. Knowing how to properly loop songs is a skill I've seen a lot of music artists mess up, and even Nintendo themselves have had songs that don't really loop well, so I'm quite impressed to see such a good loop. Overall, this is a perfect battle theme. It perfectly captures that silly fun but "stay focused" battle theme that the M&L series has been known for. Overall great work on this, and this makes me even more hyped for variations or other special battle themes as the game is developed.
Just found out about this game and I am already getting good vibes from this. Mario and Luigi is my favourite series, so I hope this game does well. Good luck! :)
random scrollin' on bug fables discord, and HEY what a bop ! you can really feel that mario & luigi upbeat attitude... and yet i think it's got its own, very vibrant personality ! awesome stuff ! ill be there when the kickstarter launches
Thank you! I'm glad you think it gives off the feeling well without being a copy, that's the thing i was most worried about when making it, haha I appreciate the support a lot ^^ Hopefully it'll be an exciting launch!
Dude the music kicks ass!! I love the Mario and Luigi games!!!! Hope your able to release more soon cause the Indie scene would eat this up and treasure it like a gem!
Personal favorite out of all of the one's you've shared so far. Maybe this is cliche, but if someone said Yoko made this, I'd probably believe them. You captured the energy and style of the M&L series beautifully while putting a unique spin on it. Really looking forward to this!
That's a really big compliment to me, thank you! I'm not the best at trying to go for any certain style as a musician, usually my songs just kinda... end up as they do while I make 'em, but I really tried to make this song sound like something that could be in a Mario and Luigi game while still putting my own spin on it, so this really means a lot to hear!!
Absolutely wonderful theme! Are other kinds of updates for this game going to be on this channel as well, or just the music? Subbing either way, it’s such great stuff! ^^
Thank you very much! This channel will mainly focus on the music for now, but we'll share more important updates like level design and battle abilities too! More frequent/minor updates will be shared on our discord and twitter accounts though ^^
I use FL Studio, and as for sound packs, where to begin xD For the guitar, I use Unreal Metal GTX sfz (and use sforzando to actually play it haha) and Guitar Rig 5 as the amp (specifically on the God's Love MC setting cuz it sounds so good) For the drums, I use Addictive Drums 2 For the strings, I use Nucleus for Kontakt 7, and for the acoustic guitar, I use Ample Guitar M. Finally the Xylophone is from EWQL Symphonic Orchestra Platinum Pro XP (also opened with Kontakt) and the flutes are live recorded by a good friend of mine, GamerOfTheWinds! The visuals are done with ALMAMI player, and the character graphic of Tara and Vyn has been drawn by our amazing character artist, GattaiMon. I think that's all! xD

The beginning reminds me to "Rude Buster" from Deltarune, amazing theme!

I haven't played that game yet, but I'll take this as a compliment haha

This is great! I'm interested to know what program and sound packs you used to create this, I really like the visuals too 😁
