I been learning spanish for over two years, been to colombia 6 times. The issue a lot of the time is understanding what people/girls are saying to you because of their accent, they talk too damn fast, combined with sometimes abbreviating the words or using slang that you won't know, combined with background noise or music in the car etc that makes it very very hard to understand them. It will take yearsss to become 50-60% fluent unless you are doing the 4 hours a day 6 days a week school for a couple months AND are motivated/determined to put in the work. just MY OPINION
I agree with this I've been learning for 18 months it's a marathon not a sprint. Only exception is going to these schools

Not true my friend lived in México for a year and is fluent. Look at Wes the youtuber he is fluent. I think the two best schools are Baselang and Elefun. Elefun gives you the Visa so I would lead towards that and it was endorsed by @WheresWes
@@wbuffett1Mexican Spanish is sooo much easier for me to understand than Colombian Spanish. I can live in cdmx no problem. But traveling in Colombia is tough.

I took OLSA's course online. The lady in the back sitting at the desk of the OLSA portion of your video was my teacher. She's pretty good. Got my Visa with the course too.
How was the program overall? Are all the instructors good? What were the class sizes? I didn’t see anybody in the classrooms while Zoe was filming. Have you heard anything about the Spanish program at UPB?
@@rodneyjackson1437 My classes were all online. I had 1-3 other classmates. I give the instructors an 8.5/10. The instructors know some English so it helps the learning experience. OLSA has a school in Poblado too. When I visited that location, there were students in the classroom.
Can you send me her information please. How long did it take to get your visa. Please do not say you paid more than $400-500. USA citizenship cost $1100 and dollar is stronger
If you break down the math it’s like $8 an hour 2 hours $16 times 30 days $480 but dudes will spend that or double having fun for one week in Medellin.
Or you could pay $20 a month for the Pimsleur app. The lessons are 30 mins a day, they cut through all the bs and get you speaking Spanish quickly.
Did you try enrolling at the university near by? It’s cheaper maybe

If you think about it, if you do 2 hours per day 5x per week, that's only 15 dollars per hour. That's not bad at all. I took Spanish classes in Medellin back in 2019 and my classes were higher than that.
I checked out Baselang once last year since they had a language exchange one evening. One of their teachers learned English from a school in Dubai. Also RUclipsr "Kari HQ" became fluent in Spanish from using Baselang. I think they are the better option overall but if you just in it for a VISA then the later choice is better.
Zoe, it's smart of you to weigh your options. I suggest you read the reviews of students at both schools. More info available to you will help you make a better decision. If you need a visa to stay there for more than two months, I will go with OLSA. It's a no-brainer!

My homie Zoe gettin serious about Spanish!! This spanish will help you learn the Portuguese when you in Brazil. I'm about to get serious to! I never looked into getting a student learning visa since I am buy an investment property here. But if my purpose was to get my Visa I would definitely go with an accredited school. The location may be a inconvenience but your true goal will get accomplished by getting the Visa.
Advice Zoe: No matter which school you ultimately choose, build and focus your spanish curriculum on content creating. Why content creating? Because you have extensive prior knowledge on that topic and that vocabulary is most relevant to your daily life. This will keep you motivated and interested. We learn faster when we study subjects that are very relevant and important to our daily lives; compared to just studying random topics.
Secondly , talk to yourself everyday as much as you can in spanish both out loud and in your head, from the time you wake up until you go to bed. I can't stress this enough. Most learners overlook this very important technique and this will accelerate your learning curve tremendously.
Next, set your phone and computer to the spanish settings. Why? Because we look at each of them multiple times a day and it is vital information to our daily existence (involuntary reinforcement).
Lastly, be patient and focus on these techniques and you will see massive gains!

So I’ve been with base lang for a few years now. Matter of fact, I was one of the first students when they opened up the facility for the first time about five years ago. Now immersion course is expensive but it is designed for serious learners so if you really take this class with the intentions, of using it as it meant to be, I can guarantee you you will be very impressed with your level in a month. Now I only take the lessons online. I believe it’s $150 a month but it is unlimited and is very worth it.

Zoe, this was the video I was looking for. I’m planning to come to Medellin to study Spanish and narrowed my research to OSLA and UPB. I wish OSLA had classes going on to get a picture of how classes are run. I wonder why there were no classes going on! Can you get some real life information on Spanish program at UPB? But what Zoe is trying to show us is how to register for a spanish class AND be able to apply for a student visa in Colombia. Student visas are good for 2 years.

There could be a few reasons that I can think of why someone may not go for the digital nomad visa. Firstly, you must report a certain salary when you apply for that one. With a student visa, there's no such requirement.

Very informative bro! I am doing the same as we speak. I am trying to determine should I learn Spanish or Portuguese. If I decide the Spanish language, I've be contemplating Havana, Cuba or Cali, Colombia. If it's Portuguese, I will be in Rio. Good luck bro and continue on your road to self development🍻
If you want comfort you go to the first one and get the discount. If you really need a visa then you go to the second one.

You should do Baselang, you will be fluent faster and more natural as your speak to multiple dialects. The inline version is better
Learning multiple dialects at the same time will slow your process, especially as a beginner. With Spanish, it is best that you learn a neutral accent before moving on to regional accents. For example, I would recommend a beginner learn from someone from Mexico, Columbia or Costa Rica first, since their Spanish is more neutral. After you get a grasp of the language, then you can study other accents

Yeh the cost was crazy. You can get a woman to teach you for way less. I learned a lot by learning words...then learning to form proper sentences. Watch them Spanish channels with Sub titles.
600 a month it is definitely not happening for me..they are overcharging..The best way Is just watch RUclips videos and practice what you know in a Spanish-speaking country
The pricing is ok..I would certainly pay for it. It’s a matter of perspective and budget. The best way to learn Spanish is this way..taking an immersive course provided by native Spanish speakers. Watching RUclips videos will give you background but you can’t reach the level of fluency. I live in the Dominican Republic and learned from a native Colombian.

Plus they don’t realize learning and speaking Spanish is a game changer ..you go from being a clown looking for the 🐱to a respected international traveler.

The best way to learn Spanish would be to start with a program or app that heavily focuses on developing speaking skills without much emphasis on grammar rules, like the Pimsleur Spanish program. Ideally your goal should be to get conversational in Spanish on your own before you reach out to get one on one instruction from a native speaker.

I just saw the video. The first one is way over priced. $599 no way. If gringos continue to pay next month or year it will be $800. Look what’s happening to housing prices now. The second one for $900 was ok until she said you have to pay additional to the lawyer total rip off. I spoke to a local friend of a friend lawyer who sent me info that application was on $20 to do online last year. I wish I still had the information but I was not interested then now I am and lost that contact

Honestly, I don't trust most of the comments or the motives of individuals. How did Dale and or Jarvis learn Spanish? You could do the basic 500 words and supplement with videos or tough it out for 2.5 months with the school. Czech in Effect went to the DR to learn from native speakers in school, and is one of the best in the RUclips space. I learned French on my own supplemented with a year of university. You said language is difficult for you. If it is language and the VISA, then tough it out. I agree BaseLang appears to be the better school. They also have French courses 😁

@@Butch3727 yeah english as a 2nd language is free at many community colleges here in the US. Colombia is not really as cheap as people think, I been to BAQ, CTG, and MDE and stores in their malls cost as much or more than here. Nice restaurants are pretty equal to what you would pay at Outback Steakhouse or Chili's. Small restaurants are cheap but you have to be concerned with the cleanliness and food preparation that nicer restaurants are better at because they value their reputation. Uber is dirt cheap and other services are dirt cheap. Rent in Poblado is more than what I pay in NC for owning my house. The only thing thats really cheap about Colombia is the price you can pay people for doing a job, everything else is equal it seems to the prices in most US cities. Groceries in the super market are cheaper though for things made in Colombia, anything they import is more than what you pay in the US.
zoe i think the second school is trying to nickel and dime you . baseline does not see to bad . Did you have any other schools you will vist. plus if the second school is teaching english i would like to get intro to teachers. the front desk lady was nice but her english was not all that good.
its sad the amount of work we put in for chicks smh(yeah yeah I know you not just doing for just girls), bang your head against the wall trying to learn spanish, pay for flights there, pay for hotels/airbnbs there, pay for nice restaurants, pay for activities/experiences, THEN after all that you still gotta pay them for psy whether its outright or behind the scenes in different ways helping them because they are broke and dont make much. fellas the only way to survive is to get your money up and have side jobs/hustles, this shit is expensive and gets worse the more girls you deal with. oh and not to mention you gotta dodge the bandits out there that are jealous/silently hating on you for taking their beautiful women that they can't afford to wine and dine like you. I would be mad if I were them too! and thennnn you still have to look over your shoulder to make sure the chica you been kicking it with for weeks/months really won't try to drug you and run off with your shit!
Spanish is one of the most spoken languages in the world I travel the world it would make my life and content much better definitely not doing it for girls you can get that without a word of Spanish.
