What a beautiful block. I like to think of the quote "to err is human". My seam ripper and I have an intimate relationship. It is always by my side on my sewing table. I was recently putting some pinwheels together, and I will admit, I have a bit of a problem with them. I was tired and it was late at night and I was trying to get so much done before I went to bed. I had to take an entire block totally apart not once, not twice, but three times!!!! I just had to laugh at myself!! I love red; it is my favorite color!! If I buy yardage, I wash and starch before sewing it. I find that it holds shape better and is easier to line up the edges. Thanks again for sharing. I look forward to seeing the notification that you have posted another video. God bless!! 🩷
I starch everything and it has made my piecing so much better and precise. It takes a little time but I find the results worth the effort. I follow Kimberly Jolly and Lisa Bonjean’s method.
That's a beautiful block. It would look good in any fabric. I'm 73 and have committed every imaginable mistake to be made in my years of sewing and I think I'm now starting to make up some new mistakes. 🤣 Good to know we are all in the same boat. I would love to do one of those block of the month from Fat Quarter but I live in Australia and to have it sent here plus with the money exchange it just isn't affordable and nobody here in Australia has started it up much for us. I have found one person who sells her block of the month. Might go with her. I love yours.
I starch small pieces but am experimenting with different types of starch/sizing. My first quilt was a jelly roll and I did not starch. It shrunk when washed and I was not prepared for that at all 😂
Jelly rolls can be starched but not pre laundered as they are width of fabric. No other precuts are recommended for starching or prelaundering--if you do you will soon know why. All quilts will shrink up on laundering, and starching or not has not effect on that--as that is the nature of cotton fabric. It does not affect the quality of the quilt.
Beautiful block and material. In general, I think it best practice to use the ruler v. the cutting mat to make cuts. It is much easier to align the fabric to the ruler than fabric to the mat and to the ruler too many variables particularly on precision piecing that you are doing for this block.
It’s more just muscle memory! I learned to sew on a much more basic machine. Although this is an older machine, I received it as a hand-me-down later in life. Those foundational techniques have lived on, even if the machine can do it! Just a preference thing.
I’m not sure! I would reach out to Fat Quarter Shop to see if they have any available spots. I’m fairly certain they release all patterns for purchase to everyone when the BOM concludes, though!

Such a pretty block. So glad you left in the snafus - I won't feel quite as bad every time I make mine! :D

Thank you for not editing out the mistakes, it shows us we are normal lol beautiful block!
I’m so glad you can relate! LOL! 😂
I like the way your corner block is, as is. It seems to "make the corner" by snowball ing it....
Great point! It’s fun when your mistakes turn out well!
It’s very pretty, worth all of your aggravation
Thank you! I do love it now that it’s done!

You and I have a similar story! That’s almost exactly what happened to me on my first quilt! 😂

I starch and still have “hairy monsters”.
That’s good to know! Love that you used the term 😂
Your Pfaff 2140 has the scissors, and automatic needle up/down and automatic presser foot up/ down, why don’t you use them?. I have the 2144.
